I think the last time TAS block got me cracking up this hard was that glorious brain age segment. Though the multi-console hack year, that was good too.

Also, seeing them clear 10,000 km/h in F-Zero? That's such an utterly ludicrous speed.

    TAS block was entertaining.
No idea what was going on for most of it.
    But it was still entertaining.

I think I do want to try my hand at speedrunning. No idea if I'll bounce off of it or not, but, it would be cool to help a charity out with my gaming in some way some day.

The type of games I typically like (strategy, turn based) don't seem particularly well suited for speed running, but I also like other stuff too. Lots of FPS games. But I'm also thinking of the type of runs I like to watch and I think would be fun to play. While I think like, all Out of Bounds or Clip all the Walls runs are neat, I don't like them as much as runs where you play the majority of the game "normally" but quickly.

I played and liked both Shovel Knight and Hyper Light Drifter recently, I can see both of those be good speedrunning games. F-Zero on the SNES was one of my favorite games as a kid, and Mario Kart is always a good time, so those are potential as well.

But yeah, gotta mull it over a bit but this SGDQ is making me want to give back with my hobby.

Fire Emblem has a pretty active speedrunning scene but the ones I saw are mostly about RNG manipulation. So they are very set routes because it becomes completely predictable, and then the speed comes from menu'ing fast and accurately.

I think it's fascinating how precisely you can manipulate RNG in some games. I assume it's just using some kind of fixed formula off of an internal clock in the game, therefore if you always access the formula at the right time you get the right "random" result that you wanted? Man, that sounds EXHAUSTING to do over the course of a run, but, obviously is very cool and impressive.

I considered learning how to run super princess peach after playing it relatively recently

the movement in that game feels really good and isnt too complicated to keep your momentum going

its also just a good game, everyone with a 3ds go find yourself a copy

I always feel weird about speedruns of games that are at their core about their stories.

I guess it's impressive that people can pull it off but there's definitely people for whom watching this will be the only way they experience the game. That kinda sucks. Like, there's no universe where I would want to experience undertale rushed through the dialogue.

So how is this FFVI run going? I can't watch long RPG runs, I just completely zone out and go do other stuff.

honestly I thought I'd be zoning out too on a 7 hour run but I've actually paid attention to more of it than I expected, FF6 is an interesting run to me.

I didn't catch it during the run, but the Simpsons Hit & Run run had a special feature other than being in the original French:

A bunch of the music was replaced by SiivaGunner rips:
