I just finished Episode RR, and did it in the most anime way possible
So I should mention that my story team has had a few major flaws in its build, in part because I wanted to try some new Pokemon that I didn't get to use during S/M.
Unfortunately, that left me with major glaring weaknesses to Fire/Ground/Poison, as I was running a team of:
I got to Giovanni and obviously ran into issues, with Golisopod and Decidueye doing their best to wear his team down (Bewear also to a lesser extent, except he got wrecked by a Nidoqueen with Flamethrower of all things). When I finally got to Mewtwo, I was down to Golisopod, Decidueye, and A-Ninetales, and eventually had chipped it down to a third of its health with only Decidueye at full-ish (thanks Stealth Rock!) health. I hadn't used Decidueye's Z-Move yet, so my only hope of victory was to tank a hit from Mewtwo and striking back for the kill.
So of course Zen Headbutt took me down to 3 HP, which allowed me to get off the Z-Move and win. Bless this game, and now I can just bring everyone over and not feel guilty about it.
The rare times I found Sun/Moon difficult it was in the form of "have a hard counter for this Pokemon or you're screwed" and USUM seems to have doubled down on that feast-or-famine approach to difficulty

Not so sure that AZ and his brother could also be the brothers that founded Unova, the logistics on that one don’t seem to work out
