Hey guys, I'm having a ton of fun with this game still but I just don't have time to optimize teams and number crunch to determine best combos and such. Basically, what I'm saying is, can you make me a team guys?
I'm sure there's some stuff I'm forgetting but these are the guys that get the most play. I figure I'm looking at a physical team here, though I love Terra, I don't have enough other good mages.
Ok I want to preface this with the fact the team I suggest is basically built to shoe horn Terra in there and have an awesome team.
I would run Celes, Vaan, Terra, Porom, and Noel. RW Wall or shout as needed. Give starting SBs to both Celes and Porom for haste + boost.
Terra Wrath up to use whichever combination of her SBs you like. Keep in mind the BSB while not the greatest does still offer +20% magic and +20% speed which is super nice. Give her Ace Striker or Battle Forged. She will be slow to start, but her damage will even out over medium length fights and became insane over long term ones.
Celes probably should stay away from Runic most times since it's the boost and faith for the team with a BSB. Since your entire team seems to have one an extra feel a less necessary with the natural bumps. A BSB + a 30% buff puts shout to shame honestly, but also stacks sooooo if you feel you can manage go for it. Saint's Cross will do huge damage for you here as well. If you record dive her you can turn her into a true Paladin and off load either protectga or shellga
Vaan I am not very familiar with but the general idea is build meter then dump damage and mitigation like a beast. Ninja cast speed means keeping it going won't be even a small problem. Armor breakdown will give you a great boost to physical damage as well.
Noel and Porom treat as standard role. Give Porom MM/DMT to start with haste and recast as needed. It is a curaga level heal so it should get you through all modern content save for Torment dungeons.
You can probably throw together something more mage-y too using Exdeath as a darkness mage and using Grandcross to help defensively. You could switch Porom for Garnet as well, but that would be harder to manage. Still with all the mitigation you could be running it might not matter.
Thanks for all the great advice guys! Oh, I wanted to add that there was one character I forgot that I had, since someone mentioned I don't have a 5* support. I do! It's Sazh! He has Chocobo Kick, which I have been using in combination with Garnet to produce a pseudo-shout effect.
Also, a lot of you recommended Noel, can I ask why? His BSB seems underwhelming to me, compared to Vaan, is there something I'm missing about him?
Vaan and Noel together will outright neuter any and all magic damage because they all stack (well, their magic break burst commands are the same and so won't, but semantics). Take them with a physical party (because of Vaan's def break burst), and you're basically a bully who's punching the shit out of Harry Potter.

I honestly assumed he was a support 5. Full break BSB is still amazing and makes up for lack of support 5 somewhat.

I will probably be the only one but I found the other bartz fight much easier. I cannot get through true blade of legend without losing someone. Protect power break and full break and he still hits 2k x 5.
I will probably be the only one but I found the other bartz fight much easier. I cannot get through true blade of legend without losing someone. Protect power break and full break and he still hits 2k x 5.
How many people in the back row? Also, have a few folks Defend before pushing him below 71%.
Vaan is the best non-support support for a physical team.
Super magic break (less damage for them)
Super armour break (more damage for you)
and he can carry Power Breakdown if you so feel like it.
Hence, he'll cover both damage down breaks and will increase your physical tag team's damage. All in one character.
Anyhow, pondering a double healer team for the 250 and I just remembered something..
Hai thar Lenna! I heard you have a baby shout SB! And what's this!? You can dance too? That's fantastic! Let me see if I can get Selphie's BSB on RW so you can extend heals as well as provide another Faithga...
Planned team composition:
Sephiroth - Lifesiphon + Dark Bargain. Self buffing attacker who'll be living off 2 30%s, his own 30% and burst mode to DESPAIR the crap out of the piggies. A little bit at a time. Kinda like an emo 14 year old.
Rinoa - Whatever + Bahamut. Trash clearer who then Bursts into earth/ice piggie poker
Alphinauld - whatever + tiamat. Trash clearer with his -aja level ability then 30/30 carrier primarily, and when there's enough meter to throw around, he'll be bursting and adding damage.
Y'shtola - Shellga + Wrath. SS2 and primary Burst Mode healer
Lenna - Heathen Frolic Sarabande, Curaja. Trash healer who then falls into a support role + spot healer.
This is going to be a very low damage composition. Rinoa has access to zero good relics in this realm so her MAG is around 390 with the best gear she can use. I'm just going to rely on burst modes to carry my damage and push comes to shove, I'm going to let Lenna drop, the 30/30 drop and chip away with self-buffs and BSBs. Lenna is providing the Hastega to only herself. Everyone else on the team is BSB equipped.
Alternative is that I bring in Tyro instead, and have access to another BSB which removes the need for Shellga on Y'shtola but that doesn't really add any flexibility in what I can be doing. Or he can be doing walls which frees up Y'shtola to use all her SB meter on Asylum and pretty much solo heal the place and Tyro can focus on dances. But, no 30% ATK which means Sephiroth will be doing a lot less damage.
I will probably be the only one but I found the other bartz fight much easier. I cannot get through true blade of legend without losing someone. Protect power break and full break and he still hits 2k x 5.
How many people in the back row? Also, have a few folks Defend before pushing him below 71%.
Just Lenna in the back. Have only melee stuff for V. He seems to go missile salvo into trueblade which is the real problem.

Ifrit's Kris. Ok... that at least gives me an RS weapon
Augmented Ninja Tekko. New SSB for Thancred which is an AoE high interrupt ability. Not bad...
Sasuke's Blades. I guess you want me to use Thancred. Ok game, you got me.
This thing is so weird, and I already have Locke's Lifesiphonable fire imperil. I'll give it a shot I suppose, I just wish it had been Yda or especially Papalymo's burst instead. Yda's fist with the +fire would have been out of control for Refia.

So how quickly are people here gonna be looking to do new multiplayer content when it becomes available? I'm not really in any rush, but I also don't want to miss out.
Igsebind Cid Mission done, due to my suddenly pretty good XIV synergy.
Papalymo - Meltdown, Chain Firaga - Mako Might - Ley Lines
Minfilia - Full Break, Magic Breakdown - Dr Mog's Teachings - Blessing of Light
Alphinaud - Esuna, Firaja - Ace Striker - Deployment Tactics
Y'shtola - Wrath, Curaja - Battleforged - Aetherial Pulse
Thancred - Venom Buster, Thief's Revenge - Pride of the Red Wings - Dancing Edge
RW Sentinel's Grimoire
Fairly simple strategy. Set up Ley Lines and Blessing for Shouty Faith, charge AP and DT with Wrath and weakness hits, poison the dragon, and then go to town with fire attacks. This is one of my better realms despite the lack of any weapons, though Thancred was just here for the poison.

He's a fucking pain in the ass. I eventually got him with a team of:
Lenna - Level 65 - Protectga/Curaja - Regen SB
Exdeath - Level 65 - Memento Mori/Dark Zone - No SB
Faris - Level 80 - Wrath/Full Break (for the 40% move) - Beryl Serpent
Bartz - Level 96 - Who/Cares - Died way early
Gilgamesh - Level 80 - Lifesiphon/Saint's Cross - Gilgamesh Morphing Time
RW - Shout
I used Beryl Serpent and Morphing Time twice, but for the most part just accomplished this with 4 people, as Bartz ate the entire fucking Trueblade at the 70% mark.
I read a post in this thread that Alph's deployment tactics helped a lot in the fight.
So I reshuffled my team and added Alph, because I got his SSB and BSB from banner 1. Did had to egge him from 50 to 80, but he did help a lot.
Was running a physical team with native shout and RW wall, in my first try he took out Beatrix who was carrying banishing strike so I couldn't dispel his haste, I managed to defeat him but got expert.
I tried it a second time and in that run he took out Ramza, but did manage to dispel him and mastered the fight. Deployment tactics made his missiles a very appreciated help.
Stun is an instant effect. By the time you see the blue squigglies, it's already happened and passed. The ATB has been drained and is already refilling.
That said, Trueblade is an interrupt as soon as he hits a % HP, so he's going to use it regardless of stun.
You'll still see bosses with basically instant ATB and instant actions take a turn immediately after being stunned though. Yunalesca way back when was the poster child for that.
E:
I took U+ Bartz CM down with just two S/Ls for him being a giant asshole with regards to Ranger Quad Shot. The winning run, he still killed Lenna at about 33% HP, but Exdeath was a double-casting Curaga champ. Everyone in the backrow but Bartz. He was primarily using Drain Blade, Gil was Drain Jumping, Faris was borrowing one of Fran's bows because it's somehow better than the on realm 4*+ bow, Exdeath and Lenna were healbotting. Everyone equipped with death resist stuff so I could ignore the opening salvos.
The real MVP was having about 18 more levels on Bartz, and Gil in the back row. His BSB helped a little too, but I was enWinding into Wind with Faris's Imperil Wind the first time anyway, so that in and of itself wasn't a big increase in damage.
E2:
Got Yda's crit thing from 100 gem too. Whatever. More armor for the realm. One more phys weapon and I'd feel pretty set.

If you can't move anyone to the back row, try Instant KO resist to beat Blue Magic Missile salvo. Also try a second healer.
The stunned status only resets ATB. The icon lingers longer than the effect, but doesn't prevent future actions. If his Hp falls below 71%, he does Trueblade no matter what his ATB is.
100 gemmed Ifrit's Kris. I know it's a dagger, and Krises are a kind of knife, but it really looks like an axe to me. Also probably won't get used, so oh well.
The 200 difficulty was a challenge, especially if breaks fall off while he is in his poison pools ignoring def... or maybe it was the def buffs falling off during his regular mode... or maybe everything.
All I know is someone brought curaise, and we really tested its hones.

I was trying to use protect, FB, and Power breakdown to stay safe. Missile damage isn't really too much of an issue, compared to everything he does hitting for 2k plus. I tried saving shout until later and slowly taking him down, but either retaliate falls off and someone eats a 4k something strike or accidentally push him below 70% without everyone defending and 3 people die. Basically I take way too much damage. I don't have a boost or a haste so I think I need shout here.
So how quickly are people here gonna be looking to do new multiplayer content when it becomes available? I'm not really in any rush, but I also don't want to miss out.
@AshtonDragon I usually do them pretty quickly once they're available, although I have an erratic evening schedule so it's not always release day. But I'm pretty much always down to the 1 Stamina fight, and usually the Ultimate+, if anyone needs help and I'm around. Just go in the discord thing or set something up.

Okay @38thDoe , I think you can pull off a CM win.
First off, I think Major or Moderate Instant KO resist on everyone. Otherwise your health starts in a huge hole, and you have to burn a medica right away to recover.
Drop Dorgann for Exdeath as a second healer. Give him a shared Medica rod or staff if you have one. He can run your second best heal (Curaga?) and maybe a damaging spell like Drainga. Dual cast white is pretty good for an RM, or Mako Might if you have shared Medica.
If you want to Master the fight as well as Clear the CM, move Banishing Strike strike to Gilgamesh. If you don't care about doing the fight twice, move Gilgamesh into the back row and give him some kind of Dragoon attacks, such as Blood of the Wyvern and Drain Jump. Greg is pretty hardy, so if he's in the front row with your best +DEF armor, he'll probably be okay with Banishing Strike and Gaia or Saint Cross, assuming he doesn't eat too many Trueblade of Legend or Light of the Four hits. If he's in the front row, he should probably defend before forcing the boss below 71/41% HP.
Give Faris a ranged weapon and stick her in the back row. Her damage isn't as important as not dying. Give her +ATK/DEF RM or +Support damage RM.
If you can swing it, also stick Bartz in the back row with a ranged weapon. Give him Dragoon's Determination. That, plus Shout and Burst mode should still have his ATK near 590ish. Give him Armor Break instead of Dismissal, for after Trueblade of Legend. He'll be doing good damage with his Lifesiphon + BSB.
Finally, just keep track of your damage done, so you know when to Defend before a phase transition. It's ~90k damage in when he does Trueblade, and ~210k damage when he does Light of the Four.
You might still have to S/L if there's a nasty Spellblade Barrage or Ranger Quad Shot, or if Trueblade or Light of the Four piles on one person too much, but it should be much better with 80% of the team in the back row.
Nightmare synergy is a beautiful thing - I blew up Ultima Weapon so hard I never went below 60%, and Vaan BSB + Eiko BSB meant that her command medica was outracing Doom Ultima. Celes was beating its face in for 40k a turn with her BSB commands.
Also, I finally managed to find a group of randoms for the Apocalypse Gilgamesh MP fight that weren't completely brainless! Which is hilarious considering one guy brought Faris with her BSB and Power Breakdown/Tempo Flurry (wtf?) and Tyro with his BSB and Wind Jump/Curaise (WTF?!). It all worked out, though, as everyone brought one healer and one DPS/support, so Lenna was giving regen, Tyro was throwing out ProShellga and mblink, my Y'shtola was spamming Asylum for the stoneskin, and another guy's Y'shtola was on Wall duty.
Despite the fact that my catgirl was using a major KO resist accessory, she was the only one who got taken out by Zantetsuken the entire fight. Does instant KO get blocked if the damage is completely nullified by stoneskin?

That was a fun fight. Felt a lot like an actual FFXIV boss fight, with many of the mechanics and adds in place.
I just wish it had been based on the Extreme fight, with Suparna and Chirada.
Took my Mage team in, blew stuff up with Fire and Earth.
Terra ran out of hones right at the end, with the killing blow. Might want to take her BSB into account in the future.
