Hello my lovelies! Now that we're over 20ppl I've located a new spot for us. We're upgrading to a library! Located in the old San Antonio Library space, the spot for this year is Biga on the Banks. Consistently rated in the top 3 locations for dinner on the Riverwalk, they serve New American with a Texas flare and everything I've seen or read about them says they should be able to really put together a fun setting for us. Have a look a the room we'll be using:
This is the Alamo room (fk yeah), a private dining room on the 2nd floor with a semi-private balcony overlooking the Riverwalk! Biga maintains a separate kitchen for parties like this so we won't be waiting on the main restaurant for our food, and we'll have our own wait staff + bartender so we should be able to relax and enjoy ourselves without needing to chase down anything or wonder when the next course is coming out. Please check the OP for information as it gets finalized! Here are the details so far:
Where is this place??
Biga is (according to the maps I've looked at) a couple of blocks farther than our old spot. It's right off Market, close to the convention, walkable if your legs function, a short Uber ride if not, or you could even river taxi to it because our room will open up onto a 2nd floor terrace with access to the river. From the front doors of the convention center, Google says it's a 10min walk down Market st. Here's a map:
What is the menu?!
Menu is still incoming, but it looks to be salad, a fish or a beef option (veggie also available), dessert, coffee or tea, and possibly starters depending on how you lot vote.
What is the price?
That depends on whether we get starters, but it'll be either $60/person or slightly higher if you order the beef.
Will there be a bar??
Absolutely. Right now I'm talking with the planner and it'll either be a cash bar or a set price for some amount of drinks if you want them, or both.
OK Let's talk Hors 'Oeuvres
Yes! Here is a sample of what we might be able to have floating around the room as we talk and drink before dinner!!!
Hot & crunchy shrimp served on a sugar cane
Game packet spring roll with Asian dipping sauce
Smoked salmon nacho with escabeche vegetables & crème fraiche
Does that sound like a thing we'd want to do? This would be a course before we sit and have salad. If so, the price rises to $70/person. Is that a thing we'd like to do? Sounds great to me but I don't want to price anyone out of the meal, so if it costs us guests we'll leave it off.
One final question - no chicken on offer yet. Do you care about that? Should I chase down a yardbird option? What say you all? Please post below and indicate:
Yes/No to a starter!
I do/don't care about a chicken option!
I only/never like vegetables!
life's a game that you're bound to lose / like using a hammer to pound in screws
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies
Yes to a starter!
I don't care about a chicken option!
I only/never like vegetables! - this is such a vegecist statement, omg!
I love vegetables, but not alone, they require meat for acceptable consumption
Maybe I'll come for 2018, I don't think I'll be enforcing 2018 prime and will probably skip that show, leaving me an extra week of vacay.

I wouldn't mind a starter
I don't care about a chicken option
Vegetable options seem like a nice thing for those who prefer them; I am not one of those, however
OK so by my count we are at 13 yes, 0 no, 1 Jill Stein (wtf), 2 Harambe (omg)
4 left unreported, two of whom I hesitate to include in the yes camp as they are @Melinoe and @bonobogrl and I don't want to assume.....
Unless one of those four has a really strong opinion about increasing the price, I think I'm going to call it this afternoon and nail down a menu with the coordinator!

I had a discussion with Bonobogrl about it, she's voting same as me (starters yes, chicken eh, not a vegetarian).

Also, fuck yeah Spool, this place looks awesome.
Fancy dinners are generally for not-chicken
Fancy dinners should have pretty veggies with their meat

sorry, I've been in the woods the last few days.

I had a discussion with Bonobogrl about it, she's voting same as me (starters yes, chicken eh, not a vegetarian).
You're going to have to drink her share now, Castle.
Considering she does not drink... do I owe you double then though?
no of course not!
was joek. Sorry she won't be making it though...
