The argument seems to be that according to memories, chat, and archival footage, Luigi is supposed to jump noticeably higher and slide more than he is when they are playing.

Also the UI says Mario when they've chosen Luigi Game.

I feel really bad that I started playing Yakuza 2 many years ago and just stopped...and then proceeded to buy Yakuza 3 and 4 (they were on sale!), and I got Yakuza 5 on PSN thanks to PS+.

To be fair, and this is speaking as someone a bit ignorant of the series, this almost sounds like a Saint's Row thing. The first couple were ok, but it wasn't until further in that the series started finding its footing and really becoming its own thing.

It's gonna turn out that the only thing keeping Jeff from liking the Souls games was the tone/setting.

Sorta like how he loves GTA but hates RDR because he hates cowboys.

IIRC (I've been listening to old Bombcasts lately) he isn't really that big on high fantasy. Also, he actually streamed a bit of Bloodborne.

I always thought his main dislike about Souls was how slow and animation heavy they are. Bloodborne and Nioh, by comparison, play a much faster.

Jeff doesn't like games that emphasize patience. RDR luxuriated in the environment wandering and didn't have the immediate chaos that GTA revels in, Dark Souls is the definition of "hold on a sec" gameplay. He played XCOM as all heavies, no medics. Dude likes to burn through shit and move on.

Honestly, I think that's definitely some of the problems I had with Souls games, in that I didn't give one fuck about anything that was going on plot or setting-wise. And I'm normally totally down with fantasy. There just wasn't any drive to keep playing once the bullshit-factor got cranked up high enough to make me keep going.

I think with the more-focused mission and story structure, I might be more okay with Nioh.

Except every time I look at it I just feel this weird sort of apathy for the setting

You kind of have to look hard for the lore, and it was never very interesting to me personally. Bloodborne had a bit more going on there, I think the world was way more interesting than the Souls games has been - but it still wasn't all that engrossing.
