It's pretty much necessary unless everyone wants to listen to Jeff assert an opinion, Brad agree with Jeff, and Jason be subdued for the foreseeable future.
Horizon is a game that I probably won't love, but I'll like it enough to play it 2 months from now when it's 15 dollars.
For what it's worth, I was a little worried it was just going to be a really pretty Far Cry game, and while there some similar elements, I'm pretty entralled. They've done a fantastic job. Can't wait to sink into this evening after work.
Yea, I'm like 1000% over Far Cry though, so hearing people talk about it in those terms was an instant turn off. Especially after reading Austin's thoughts on it.
Sony first party destroys the pricing on their games so fast that for a game that I'm so so on, there isn't really any reason to buy it on launch unless I'm incredibly excited for it.
They do? I mean, the games that don't sell that well (like Driveclub and The Order) obviously do but as far as I'm aware, their successful games (like Uncharted 4, TLOU and Bloodborne) tend to hold their value for quite a while and based on all the buzz, Horizon's going to be falling into that second group.
I picked up my copy of Horizon this morning, so it's just sitting in my bag taunting me. I'm really looking forward to digging into it once I get home in a few hours.
On a completely different subject, holy shit at that Wonder Boy 3 remake. I'd heard of the remake before but it wasn't until GB's look at it that I went "wait a minute, I've played this game before." I think the last time I played it I would've been like 5 or 6, so I'd completely forgotten about it until I watched that video. I think it might've even been the first game I ever finished.
But in this case he's literally talking about the Nazis.
Not every German/Axis soldier during WWII was necessarily a Nazi.
Yes, Nazis and fascists are obviously bad. The Nazis are pretty much as close to clear cut "bad guys" as have existed in the modern era.
However, not every Axis soldier was necessarily a Nazi. Just as soldiers in other countries don't always share the political views of the leadership in their country.

Uncharted 4 half price after maybe 2-3 months? And The Last Guardian lost 20 dollars off it's price as well. Everyone not nintendo in the retail channel cuts aggressively these days, but Sony has been very aggressive.

sure they were, it was a 1 party state and it was illegal to not be part of the nazi party
Now if you had said they weren't all necessarily supporting the nazis then you might have something

Was that a limited time deal or a proper price cut? Limited time deals I've seen but I never really noticed permanent price drops that early from Sony. Could be a US thing, I guess. Either way, Square Enix are the company I think of when I think aggressive price drops. Even their successful games seem to drop really quickly, let alone their unsuccessful ones like Deus Ex MD.
I'd say Activision are similar to Nintendo in their anti-aggressive pricing though. Any time CoD goes on sale, it's a weak 10% or so, while even their budget games and old games can take quite a while to go on sale.

I know it has some similarities to their style of games, but Horizon isn't a Ubisoft game. Probably going to be a bit longer than 2 months before it drops to $15 :P
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
While it is unlikely that Drew is wearing wigs and adopting personas to work sources, his reactions on UPF could be signals to other operatives to check their dead drops... *tin foil hat*
Black lives matter.

Also, we're talking specifically about Sniper Elite 4 where the bad guys are Nazis and there's not a lot of room for sympathy for the imaginary Nazi soldiers. Lets not turn this into something it isn't. Dan referring to them as "bad guys" is completely ok in this context and doesn't really require a subtle analysis of the socio-cultural politics of Nazi Italy at the time.
They seemed to imply they're gonna do two streams, one for the Switch and one for a Drew retrospective.
They also sort of implied Drew is getting out of covering games.
That seems entirely unsurprising. Drew's interest in games always seemed like more of a casual hobby then a passion.
And Jeff has sorta joked over the years that the only people who stay in the games industry are people with no other skill set/people who don't want to make any money.
If whatever Drew is doing is as awesome as we're all assuming it is, he'd be stupid not to go do it.

I don't watch the mailbag stuff too often, and I definitely haven't watched too much footage of their current workspace. That setup where they're sharing space with a bunch of non-GB people seems weird! Once again makes me miss the Whiskey Media days when they were all sharing the basement with Tested, Comic Vine, and Screened.

Yeah, they moved a little while ago downstairs because Apple is renting their old office space. I think they were originally okay with it because they no longer had to keep sharing the podcast studio with people, but then they ended up having to share the first floor podcast studio with people too.
Also from what I've seen of GB content, they're also not fans of the open floor office space plan, where people are throwing footballs and talking loudly about partying, bro.
Side note; I think Will Smith has said that he has rented out the old Whiskey Media offices to demo VR stuff in on more than one occasion.

I could see Drew doing something involving travelogues to interesting places in the world. Imagine Drew visiting Pripyat! Of course, I'm saying this after recently viewing part of his North Korea video again.
Man, I had fallen behind on watching/reading stuff the last few weeks and just caught the Drew news. So bummed. He was (outside of crazy man Dan) the most interesting of the personalities at GB, just because he did so much other cool stuff outside of it.
Like I don't know what would even be in a Jeff-Brad-Jason podcast to really get me to listen.
Wish Dan was still out west and Austin was still at GB. I like some of the Waypoint stuff, but I think he was so much better interacting with Alex and Vinny who are pretty prototypical gamers. Rather than on Waypoint, where the think pieces just sort of sit there.

Jeff's tasting of the Switch cart was picked up by the Beeb:
I'll be interested to see how Jeff ends up feeling about Zelda. If we end up with another 8.8-gate.

Well, he's not going to give Zelda a score since Dan already reviewed it.
It was pretty amusing seeing people flip out over that 8.8 score for Twilight Princess back in the day, though. I don't think even people on this forum were immune, although to be fair that was almost 11 years ago and I'd be surprised if half the people from that Wii or Zelda thread were still regulars here.

In hindsight, 8.8 was probably generous
on the bombcast he kind of had a revelation about it that I think made him think much more positively about it.
