we opened the library for reading on New Year's Eve
we had glasses and each turn for a card game we had to read everyone at the table
i didn't want to do it!!!
but then I was so good that no one wanted me to do it
such gems as
*turns to first person* "Prisoner 1156"
*turns to second person* "Prisoner 2568"
*turns to third person* "Prisoner 5768*
whole table: "what are you doing I don't get this"
me: "Oh, just getting us used to our new names in the Trump Gay Work Camp"
whole table: *uproarious laughter* *pause* *reflective frowns*
me: "What does everyone here have in common????"
whole table: "what"
me: "Much like Oprah, no matter how many times we look under our chairs, we all gained twenty pounds this year."
Yes, a pea sized drop of thermal paste is required between the CPU and the heatsink. Don't put it in between the motherboard and the CPU. I've seen that happen. It wasn't pretty.
Although most stock heatsinks these days have preapplied thermal paste.
Arctic Silver 5 is still good. Its been used for like 15 years.

What is this thermal paste bullshit everyone is talking about
There's a paste that should go between your CPU and your CPU Cooler, to facilitate heat transfer. Without it you will have problems.
It's usually already applied to stock coolers and stuff these days though.

Can I get a ruling here?
If you have a stock everything it should already be applied, but yes, you need this paste, because air is a fucking amazing insulator, which is the last thing you want in a heatsink.

It's usually pre-applied and there's a little peel off sticker if you buy a new cpu.
are YOU on the beer list?

This is not true it depends on the processor/cooler you have
also those drinking dreams sound bad. I used to have recurring nightmares about driving drunk - despite never having been so stupid to do so - and those would leave me feeling like trash.
The good news is I basically wake up, eat and / or bathe, then I'm out for a walk, either to group or to the store, basically everyday, which affords me an opportunity to process, analyze, and then shake off the weird dreams
And the trade-off of sweet, sweet sleep is SO worth it!

Wasn't the red ring of death for the xbox 360 caused by overapplication of thermal paste?
IIRC, it was because the GPU was right next to the CD drive and didn't have enough cooling. So over repeated heating/cooling, the GPU or parts of it would lift from the circuit board. That's why wrapping it in a towel and baking it would occasionally reseat it properly.

Higher end processor's and coolers for enthusiast style people do not have thermal paste cause its assumes you will have you own stuff thats better then the stock pad you get.

Also, you need to inspect that patch if your cooler has one, because often times that patch can dry out while the CPU is sitting on the shelf and won't do it's job properly. I generally just scrape it off and apply my own fresh paste just to be sure.

SniperGuy you have survived the madness that was the ... dark times in our Rimworld colony, with only a few old scars and some missing toes to show for it!
And now we are much more stable and your only major complaint is that you have no prosthetics / robot body parts, but we plan on replacing the leg with the missing toes once we improve our medical technology so that you don't die on the table or something equally Rimworldy >_>

I deeply enjoyed that there's a strat that involves you not looking at a single enemy for 50 minutes in order to get a tutorial window to pop up and interrupt another prompt.
These are the kind of "what sequence of delirious events led to you discovering this?" questions that I want ADGQ to inspire in me.

My fancy corsair self contained water cooler bits had it preapplied, but yeah it's definitely a sometimes thing.

I definitely remember trying the towel thing.
It did not work for me.
I love wonky fixes for shit. Like my old tablet wall wart. The internal pins would separate sometimes, but the block itself didn't come apart like it looked like it should. An overnight stay in the freezer would fix it for a while.
Jeff Sessions is atrocious and any person voting to confirm him should be voted out. God damn, he was too shitty and racist for the 80's.

when my xbox red ringed I took it apart and replaced some screws and stuff. I used cut up cardboard from a case of corona beer for spacers. it actually started working again! for about two weeks but whatever. it's also why I own a set of torx screwdrivers.

I own a set to take SNES carts apart of replace the save battery. My XBox red ringed while my wife was playing Viva Pinata. It's kinda funny looking back. She thought I was gonna be so mad, but I was like, "This shit happens all over. It was just our turn."
