so they did a solid job of selling me on a ps4 thats $50 cheaper and will have more than an old bethesda game and zelda. the octopath game looks neat, but persona 5 gets my vote over smt:anniversary. it will be impossible to sell my wife on the switch over a ps4. no mention of the vc situation doesnt help either.
While I'm optimistic about the Switch, I'm sure it will be primarily a secondary system for the enthusiast crowd like the Wiis, with the main action continuing to be with multi-platform Xbox/PS4/PC games.
Launch lineups are basically always this. Why are people surprised?
This is true, but for Nintendo they really have to hit the ground running.
People buy the other consoles because they trust that games will be there in the future. Not so with Nintendo, as the trend is for things to dry up in a few months.
They need to clarify that statement a bit. It kind of reads like you only get the free game for that month? Would be nice if it was for as long as you were a subscriber.
I was going to say "exactly as I had hoped", but do they mean it will be one free game a month (NES or SNES), or that you have to choose between an NES or SNES game?
And surely they don't mean "free for a month" in that you can't play it after the month is up even if you're still a subscriber, right? The wording needs some clarification.

It's Nintendo, so that's probably exactly what it means. You didn't expect them to not do their online services backwards, did you?

i'm thinking its a try them for free, now go buy them type deal. cause Nintendo!

this is nintendo. they absolutely mean you only get to play the game for a month
While I am fine getting a Switch for the games shown alone, I've also watched Nintendo completely fuck up their online game for the past decade, at least; I see no situation where the first year+ of free NES/SNES games aren't the exact same dozen or two VC games that came to the wii and WiiU; i.e. Balloon Fight, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Yoshi something or another, etc.
You know, the games everyone already has, 2 or 3 times depending on what consoles they own.
I hope I'm wrong. The best case scenario I can think of is they have a selection each month you can choose from; but they'd have to step up their VC porting game if that were the case.
EDIT: I didn't notice the added online play thing. Cool, yeah; but cool enough to make getting SMW for the umpteenth time feel ok, for a paid service? Eeeehhhhhhh.
Launch lineups are basically always this. Why are people surprised?
Sounds like people didn't want a console announcement, they wanted a therapy session.
I liked what I saw here. They didn't go through every launch title because that wasn't the point. They showed off the console and some highlights. They'll have more to show tomorrow and over the weekend. It was only an hour long, they can't address every single concern.
says there 'monthly game download' so one game a month. wonder if they decide what game or you get to pick yourself.

Splatoon inklings in Mario Kart? Yessssss!
I'm not impressed by Super Mario Odyssey, but then again, I remember not being impressed with Super Mario 3D World when it was announced and it turned out fantastic.
- Those controllers look dangerously cramped when held in hand sideways.
- Price is high for the rumored payload.
- Launch confirmed titles are 12 switch and zelda (not exclusive wiiu launches same day.) Yikes.
- Paid online - Some people will bitch but all the majors do this thats the wrong argument. The issue here is nintendo is historically bad at this. As in, worst company by a mile at estore and online functions. And now they want me to pay the for the pleasure? That is a show me first thing for sure.
Good thing you don't have to pay the online services till fall, then?
look, we just need an extra year maybe to catch up with 2005
Pretty much every single game system released in the last 10 days got features added over the course of its life. Why is it only a bad thing when Nintendo does it?
The benefit of a system like that would be creating an instant online community for older games on the spot and on a rotating basis. Which a neat idea at least, but requires people to own the thing.
look, we just need an extra year maybe to catch up with 2005
that could just mean their plans for when it switches to a paid service. they've said it'll be free for a period after launch. hopefully that means it'll have all its features to sell people on paying for it, but its Nintendo so we'll see.

Sounds like NES or SNES are the only systems on offer. And you probably dont get to choose.
Also its free for that month and then you have to pay to own it. It isn't free forever.
So much negativity based on only a small amount of info released so far. Cool, means it'll be easier for me to pre-order.
Do we have any idea when we can? Or if Amazon will be a launch partner? I know N and Amazon have had a rough go in the past, but it seemed like they had sorted things out in the past year or two.
I'm just curious if I need to stay up late and keep hammering refresh, or if preorders are going to be open at a later date like in Japan.
People are so upset that at launch there isn't going to be a ton of stuff but I have been saying for a while, this isn't a normal console launch. Launch is "Everything between march and Christmas". Because Christmas is what matters for it to gain traction with the general public. Between that time they've got Mario Kart and Mario and Zelda and Splatoon and Other Stuff Too.

But so far my desire to buy one at launch has dropped dramatically.
I think the price is right but 300 bucks is still a lot of money
Especially for just Zelda
Especially when I can buy a Wii U on the cheap
SniperGuyGaming on PSN / SniperGuy710 on Xbone Live
what is the game at 1:09?
Woww those controller prices are nutso. $70 for pro controller? $80 for a pair of Joycons?
Mario
Disgaea 5
Octopath Traveller
Fire Emblem Warriors
Splatoon 2
Shin Megami Tensei
Xenoblade 2
No More Heroes 3
Looks like I'll be getting value out of my purchase
yeah that seems about right. :?
I mean, Zelda is at least their killer app for launch but it's probably going to be little else
I wish I was moreso. I really, really do.
I thought that dropping out of Nintendo threads would help me feel better about the system, but I think all I did was bottom out my hype entirely.
I mean, is it a killer app? Can get another version of it for considerably cheaper.
that sounds like you only get to play them for the month. but, added online play to old games is pretty fucking nifty.
I thought ARMS was post-launch, and 1-2-Switch was the other launch game?

because they've had years to do better
