It sounds like they are choosing one NES or SNES game per month, adding online multiplayer to it, and releasing it for free to subscribers. Hopefully permanently free but that's not clear. Still the online thing is incredible if it's done well and they pick the right games.
They need to clarify that statement a bit. It kind of reads like you only get the free game for that month? Would be nice if it was for as long as you were a subscriber.
It's Nintendo, so that's probably exactly what it means. You didn't expect them to not do their online services backwards, did you?

think it might just be the SNES games that get added online multi.
People are so upset that at launch there isn't going to be a ton of stuff but I have been saying for a while, this isn't a normal console launch. Launch is "Everything between march and Christmas". Because Christmas is what matters for it to gain traction with the general public. Between that time they've got Mario Kart and Mario and Zelda and Splatoon and Other Stuff Too.
... Why do you claim that this isn't a normal console launch?
If I can get some Secret of Mana online co-op action going, hells yeah.
Thanks.
Knowing this will never happen (because the ball for providing that functionality would be in SE's court), but would be possible, will haunt me forever.
also, all that party and chat stuff is only done through a smartphone app. it's not baked into the os
I see no reason to assume that. I think they just wanted to emphasize that it could be done through a smartphone. I mean during that time he also talked about being able to add and manage friends, which is something you can count on being baked into the OS.
look, we just need an extra year maybe to catch up with 2005
Pretty much every single game system released in the last 10 days got features added over the course of its life. Why is it only a bad thing when Nintendo does it?
because the things they're adding (at some point) are less than most consoles/PCs start with
Goddammit, why am I getting this worked up over fucking anticipation of online arguments about this console, and what I imagine to be its future? What the hell am I doing, acting this upset?
Fucking hell, it's not like today was November 8th, 2016. This isn't a thing for me to lose my shit over.

I'd say I'm sold on the switch, but I'm not going to fight major distribution problems and scramble to get one, if it's easy to get I'll buy one, if not I'll wait.

I'm quite happy with what I saw, and I in no way expected Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I'm sold day one, but I foresee a toxic community for a while with Switch discussions.
I'm going to avoid Neogaf like the plague for a while.

i'm not sure if that's true. i think Nintendo are handling the added online support for SNES titles. least until we're told otherwise.

I gotta be honest, while what's been shown so far personally does it for me, I'm also a Nintendo fanboy who's receptive to this stuff. But I haven't seen anything that would make the person who didn't get a Wii U suddenly rush out and buy the Switch. And the grasps for 3rd parties and such? Anybody who wanted Skyrim already has it by now. Fifa? People will just stick with their PS4/One. The brief snippets of games in that montage I noticed, like Xenoverse 2 and Minecraft, games for consoles people already own, so I don't imagine a massive influx of buyers for the Switch versions. Everything else felt like standard Nintendo fare that the Wii U had. Oh, and those 1-2 Switch and Arms games, I really hope they're pack ins. And even then they look dire. It's doubling down on the initial Wii well, a well that's dried up and nobody wants to drink from anymore. I mean they look fun for about 20 minutes, and then they'd go on the shelf next to Wii Sports and Nintendoland, never to be touched again.
And I'll bet you dimes to doughnuts 3rd parties in general "won't have any idea what to do with the joy con controllers" the same way they "didn't have any idea what to do with the gamepad". This thing might stand a chance if developers actually step up and start porting their shit to it. The cynic in me though foresees another Wii U situation. "We half assed ported a few games, nobody bought them, we're out." And boom, it's a standard Nintendo generation as usual. In it for their games and their games only.
I want one at launch. But herein lies the last problem for me. I'm Canadian, and if this thing is $400, I'm just going to spend the $50 I have reserved for the Wii U version of Zelda on Amazon and wait.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
I'm increasingly thinking they've blown it. Too expensive, not enough games, not particularly powerful. New Mario Kart and new Splatoon don't excite me. Arms looks ok, but also like a Wii game.
i wonder how many of those games dont even make it to the west. the dragonquest games very specifically said for japan. theyre going to have to pump out more interesting stuff soon or this thing might tank like the wiiu.

We're getting Xenoblade 2, not Chronicles 2. Two different series.
One fantasy the other sci-fi.
I think I'd rather have Chronicles 2. Lord knows I need more giant robots in my life.

Zelda at Launch is awesome, but beyond that...a perplexing mishmash of stuff. Ultra Street Fighter 2?
I'm into an open-world Mario game, but they seriously need to replace all the human characters with ones drawn in the Mario style. And the cars. Stat.
And where are the rumored Ubisoft games?

We have to judge based on what nintendo has chosen to show us.
Presumably, they want to show us the best of what they have to offer, to entice us to buy it.
This so far has not seemed promising, especially with stuff like their online service and the controller pricing.

Ultra Street Fighter 2 with online play. can see a lot of people taking note once that idea sinks in.

If you skipped the WiiU, this is probably an interesting console.
If you were a WiiU owner, this is kind of a middle finger.

Ain't cheap at all.
Aaaaand pre-orders are already sold out?

i just threw my wallet at the screen and nothing happened.
I completely disagree. The Wii U was a middle finger, this feels like they actually have a plan to release some decent games this year.
It feels pretty much the opposite of the Wii U, tbh.
Why?
All the really cool stuff seems way way off.
