I have over 150 hours in Yakuza Zero.

At least 50% of that was me playing Real Estate Tycoon and Part-time Club Manager.

I really didn’t care for the real estate stuff since it was a lot more passive background stuff and way more expensive to maintain, but the cabaret ruled.

I didn't like the real estate stuff but I admit I was very, very addicted to it in part because I had a chicken as a manager and that ending cutscene when you beat the final fight for a zone was the coolest thing Ive ever seen anyone do.

I also never got sick of "I'll buy it....IN CASH!"

Yakuza 0 is just so dang charming

I played the original, the PS2 one, but not much

but I can't get enough of just running around beating the shit out of dummies and finding side quests and eating sushi and stuff, playing that stupid claw game

really, the only problem I have with the game is that you have to hold down the button to keep your target

unless there is like, an option I missed.

There's not, the fighting system is honestly kinda weak in my opinion.

Yeah, it’s pretty frustrating that after 8+ iterations of the fighting system it has yet to incorporate a useful targeting system.

It feels like they prioritize having the player whiff attacks over ensuring that the player has fun with combat.

    Oh okay

I figured they were at least fucky-adjacent since in Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ you meet someone that says “I’m supposed to give these pocket tissues to people but I can’t give them to you because you’re underage.”

  • metaghostmetaghost Registered User regular
They may be more "fucky" these days, but when I lived in Tokyo between 2005-07, they mostly advertised local non-porn adjacent businesses or were simply for whatever was the nearest Conbini. Genuinely just struck me as "everyone vaguely ill wears a facemask, which is apparently 98% of the population, so of course they all need easy access to free tissues."

There are plenty of chain places and little independent restaurants. Pachislot stuff is all over the place, along with some more traditional arcades. Lots of thinly veiled adult entertainment establishments. At least one convenience store every thirty meters. I'm sure if I could read anything I'd have a better sense of the place.

In general Kabukichou is an assault on the senses that Akihabara wishes it was. There's just so much, everywhere you go.

Few hours ago a typhoon went right up the bay. Worst has passed Tokyo by now, but JR cancelled all the trains. Doesn't look like the power went out anywhere, which is incredible.

Oh and the streets are laid out exactly as they are in the game. It is truly bizarre to be on the other side of the world and just instinctively know how to navigate.

Absolutely and when I did I felt a bit different. I went and prayed at a shrine and now when I punch dudes, more cash comes flying out of them.

Which is good, cause you can't go more than a block without some biker guys wanting to fight you.

Okay, so the hostess club stuff is pretty frantic and enjoyable. Thankfully it also doesn't seem to be too terribly difficult.

I also got myself shaken down, woops. Oh well, I'll get that money back eventually.
