About the kickstand specifically though, pretty much every hands on I've seen/read that has talked for more than 2 sentences has talked about how bad the kickstand is. Because i's far off to one side it's seems to be very susceptible to being knocked over with only the slightest touch/bump to the other side. I saw one video (don't remember which), that amusingly said that any kind of shaking makes it super easy for it to tip over, which is great since so many of Nintendo's marketing videos have people playing with the kickstand on a plane, and no flights ever have turbulence, right?
Truthfully, it actually does look to be a little concerning.
It's only a matter of time before we get a kickstand stand.

Best Buy's website is being a dick about changing my order from shipped to pick up. Of course I still have to wait on on Zelda to get delivered but it would be nice to have the firmware updated and battery charged...
I think I saw in an article somewhere that the kickstand is shitty on purpose. I'd link it, but I'm not convinced that I didn't dream reading something so absurd.
Just found out my gamestop's having a midnight launch event.
Oh god dammit. There are three fucking GameStops in my old hometown. The one in the mall, which I always go to for some fucking reason, is the only one of the three NOT doing the midnight release. I should have know this was going to happen and just gone to one of the other two stores.
Meanwhile, the store in the mall does more business than the other two combined and used to be the go-to for midnight launches. Argh...

It's shitty because they didn't want people breaking it when putting the Switch in its dock without remembering to kick it back in.
I want the Switch and will eventually get one, but didn't preorder and literally have over 100 games in my backlog, many of which are on mobile devices due to 3DS/Vita/PS4 Remote Play/Android/iPad. As the father of a 6-year-old and a 10-month-old, mobile is the way to go as I can only play games where you hit things in the hour after the oldest goes to sleep and I go to sleep on the big screen, so the Switch is right up my alley. That's when I really started getting into the PA community, actually, as the first kiddo meant physical social circles condensed, so digital was the way to go, and you guys are great! But, you know, fuck midnight campouts at age 41. I'll pick one up when it happens to be available when I happen to be in a store, maybe when there's one bundled with a game I feel I need. I'm guessing Mario would be the first bundle package? I waited for 4 years for the Wii and skipped WiiU, picked up the 3DS when the N3DS came out, so I'm fine waiting a bit. Crotchety old man rant over.

I wish I had your patience. I must have the thing, I must have it as quickly as humanly possible.

If I chug nyquil for the next 4 days, time will go by faster.
Still haven't gotten Zelda in, but I checked in the system and we're getting one more than the number of switches we have. Woo!
No I don't.

My Best Buy is not doing a midnight release (I think, the website does not list it as doing one). I figured it would be fine. I can get a lot of sleep, get there bright and early, and play Zelda non-stop, as opposed to getting Zelda at midnight and then proceeding to be tired as shit as I stay up all night playing instead.
Hey @carmofin could you time how long it takes to power on the Switch from being powered off?
I thought I had seen a video of someone doing that but I couldn't find it and someone in the Switch Reddit Discord was asking about that which made me curious for myself.

Not that you should in the first place, but as someone who has been sick enough to basically chug the big Q as well as robitussin for that long, straight?
No, no it will not. There is a very good chance time will, in fact, become infinite, and you'll be staring at the wall for an eternity in 3 seconds.
What would people say is the gold standard of kickstands to compare this to? Because it looks to me like it's behaving like every kickstand on everything, including up to bicycles and motorcycles.

If I were to make any design difference from what I've seen, it would be a rubber foot or something to support the curve of the kickstand.

I went to a Switch preview event with a coworker about a month ago. There was a little station set up with just the hardware, no games, so you could examine the console itself, dock/undock it, etc. Literally the first thing my coworker did was snap the kickstand off when attempting to dock the console.

Perhaps an upside T, to give the kickstand a wider support base?
Sort of like:

That might make it more stable, but at the cost of probably being easier to snap off/catch on things when trying to dock it (as mentioned was a concern in previous posts)?

This is the first I'm seeing of this kickstand stuff, though I haven't sought out a lot of info about the Switch beyond what was presented. What strikes me most about it is that kickstands for things, including tech gadgets, isn't new or something that needed improving on. I guess that makes me lean into believing it was done on purpose?

I'm 100% sure it was done on purpose. someone said it was likely that they came up with a cover for the SD card, realized it would work as a kickstand, and modified accordingly.
Many toys go through drop tests, such that they won't create sharp edges of things fall or break. I'm sure the Switch has gone through this too.
... Speaking of SD cards.. I'm thinking a 128GB one..

Surface has half the height of the back flip out for a stand, so it's the full width of the device. Very stable, though fewer angle choices.
One of the tablet cases we have at work had the upside down T stand, which is also very stable.
Anyone else pre-order from Target? My estimated delivery date is March 4th, even though I chose overnight shipping. Shouldn't it be delivered on release day?

Surface also has a proprietary mechanism that allows for a smooth adjustments throughout (on the pro 3 and 4). Takes up a "lot" of room relative to the switch if they were going to go with that, and it would catch on the dock and definitely cause issues.
yea the kickstand thing isn't so much about the fact that it snaps off. that's actually good. The issue is with the fact that it is so far offset to the side, and the "foot" of the kickstand is relatively narrow so the pivot point is really close to that side, which can cause tipping issues if the device is touched or the surface it is on is shaken. Having it closer to the center of the tablet, or a wider foot, would have lessened the issue.
I don't know how they could have made it much better, but it is an issue, and just something people need to be careful of.

Rest up and hit ToysRus in the morning, I say. That way you can Zelda to your hearts content all day long.
I, on the other hand, will be staring out the window all day waiting for the UPS man to arrive with my Switch.
It's only a matter of time before we get a kickstand stand.

buy something like this and take it with you
Oh, who am I kidding, I'll probably try to get it from Wal-mart or something.
I wasn't able to preorder

A lot of gamestops will have small quantities extra available for sale to non-preorders.

Gonna buy mostly digital, but some karts so I figure this will last me most of the console's life more or less.

Play Asia.
I also got one from a local store. I'm going to go cancel it today.
That's some interesting fine print.
