Assuming the viewing angles on the Switch are good, I'm not really that worried about an adjustable kickstand. Though that Hori one would be nice to be able to charge while playing.
Maybe someone will come up with a combination portable charger/stand for it.

Honestly I think I agree with whoever said they probably just figured the SD card cover could double as a kickstand and just went with it :P Nintendo always likes to go for the cheaper hardware solution, so it doesn't surprise me they didn't over-engineer the kick stand. Anything more than they did would have probably added to the manufacturing cost, when, as people have said, it's unlikely many people will even use the system propped up this way.
I'm a bit undecided on what to do about the Switch. On the one hand, my WiiU has been collecting a lot of dust. On the other hand, my WiiU has been collecting a lot of dust because it's in the main TV, so I can only play games that can be played on the controller screen (because I can't really take away the main TV if anyone else is using it), and the Switch is literally all Off-TV play all the time if you want.
I thought about going to midnight release, but I bought Zelda on Amazon so all I could do is stare at the thing for 2 hours before I go to sleep.
Not fun.
Midnight releases have gotten weird now that I'm living on my own and am a massive night owl. I'll be chugging along doing whatever, glance at a clock, and realize that I could just drive over to a store, grab a newly released game, and be back with it in less than a half hour.
Curious as to when my UK Amazon pre-order will arrive. Historically anything from a couple of days early to a couple of days late are possible. The unknown adds an extra frisson of excitement to proceedings.

I thought I had seen a video of someone doing that but I couldn't find it and someone in the Switch Reddit Discord was asking about that which made me curious for myself.
The switch pretty much always goes into sleep mode, tbh, I'm not even sure how you turn it off, since that option isn't available in the menu.
Either way, waking the system happens instantly. You press A and Zelda is on the same moment.

I've always had good luck at Target. Best Buy, Toys R Us, and Walmart were always jam packed with people trying to get day one systems. My Target doesn't do midnight launches, or at least it didn't when I went shopping for previous consoles, and I'd walk in when they opened with only two other people waiting outside.

Yea, I want a pro controller but not enough to babysit Amazon pages to pre order one.
When I pick up switch #1 from Best Buy I'll buy one if they have em, but I'm willing to wait.
I'm also waiting to see what the joycons in grip actually feels like to use. It could be 100% fine to use that combination. And at $90CA, I will need to *really* want that controller.
To me, they felt largely the same but for the Dpad.
At any moment one of my numerous attractive friends could bump into the table the Switch is standing on.
setting the joke aside, (because that was pretty funny), this is actually an important thing. don't necessarily have to hit the device to knock it over. My coffee table is relatively light weight, so pretty easy to move if i bump it. Probably wouldn't take much to knock the switch over in a situation like that.

About the kickstand specifically though, pretty much every hands on I've seen/read that has talked for more than 2 sentences has talked about how bad the kickstand is. Because i's far off to one side it's seems to be very susceptible to being knocked over with only the slightest touch/bump to the other side. I saw one video (don't remember which), that amusingly said that any kind of shaking makes it super easy for it to tip over, which is great since so many of Nintendo's marketing videos have people playing with the kickstand on a plane, and no flights ever have turbulence, right?
Truthfully, it actually does look to be a little concerning.
It's only a matter of time before we get a kickstand stand.
My bestbuy.com order is finally preparing! Hype is real. This might be the greatest console release for me. It's the day before my birthday and a week before PAX East. There better be some people willing to play Bomberman or something at PAX. Speaking of which, is there really any other multi or co-op stuff with getting besides Bomberman or snipperclips? I know 12 switch is useless for PAX, so that's probably not a great idea.

This same retailer charged $150 for NES classics. I really don't think it's to stop resellers as much as it is holding the switch hostage unless you buy shit.
On the pre-orders situation I can report that my Best Buy Order of Zelda BOTW Wii U version has also been updated to preparing. Still might visit stores next weekend if I can walk in and luck out on getting a Switch console and BOTW Switch.
My Best Buy order processed last night as well. Naturally my credit card come thought it was a fraudulent transaction and stopped it. Two quick and painless calls later and I'm good. That's a nice change of pace.

Mine still says processing. I chose to do in-store pickup and am using their store card. I may call in to make sure everything is good. I setup the order about an hour or less after the presentation in January. I haven't had any trouble ordering through there yet though - I've made a lot of my purchases for games through them since they started the 20% off all games with their new games club membership thing.
yea, for the joy con charging, I'm assuming we'll hear more of this in the official reviews, but I have heard a couple anecdotes that the switch will charge the joy-cons while unplugged if the switch's battery is "above a certain level"

This guy has an interesting theory that the the issue may be just a bug that they aren't properly moving to a higher power mode when being undocked from the switch. He says that with the power specs for the hardware as per the FCC filings that it should have no problem going through a persons body.
So likely that a firmware/software fix will resolve it unless it actually is a hardware manufacturing defect.
So today I'm play all day in dogface mode. Like this I'm having no connection issues anyway, but what's weird is that even now after 4 hours of being connected nonstop, they still show as full.
Keep in mind though, Zelda makes almost no use of any joycon features.

The switch charges the Joycons attached in dock, when hooked to a cable or when just attached to the switch.
