Whats the best lightgun game on the PSVR right now? I know Until Dawn RoB is pretty good but any others?
I was REALLY enjoying Mortal Blitz last night, it needs a bit of space to be played properly. It's certainly not a refined experience but it captures everything I love about arcade light gun games. Simplistic gameplay, dreadful acting and plot, lots of action.
Basically it's the same as time crisis except instead of having a button to duck in and out of cover, you actually DUCK in and out of cover. It needs a bit of space because of this (though with clever calibration apparently you can play seated). It's also not available on the UK store yet, I bought $20 PSN credit off ebay and picked it up off the USA store.
There's London Heist but that is VERY short for the money (essentially just two action sequences), otherwise you could look to Lethal VR but that's more like a virtual shooting range.
If you can be bothered, sign up for a china account and grab Ancient Amulator. It's only a demo but it's sort of a light gun meets tower defence game (you hop between positions and shoot stuff). I had a lot of fun with it, bow and arrow in VR is great (though it takes some getting used to).

Finally got ReVive working.
Superhot VR is crazy fun. Honestly, getting access to the Oculus Rift library has rekindled my love for VR. I'm looking forward to trying Robo Recall once I finish Superhot. Any other gotta-play Oculus suggestions (that aren't also on the Vive)?

If we are speaking strictly of shooting games there's also Brookhaven Experiment. I've also got Farpoint pre-ordered, I absolutely can't wait for that -- hoping and praying that it doesn't let me down. That comes out mid-May -- WalMart is selling the pre-order for $60 including the lightgun which is $20 cheaper than most other places.
Yeah it'll be available separately from what I read. I've got Brookhaven too but I never really took to it.
That was my understanding, too, but I can't find any places that have it listed separately. But I imagine you HAVE to be able to buy it separately since you can buy the game as a digital download.
I can understand someone wanting the digital version, but in reality you can save a lot of $ by getting the bundle if you can find a place that is selling at a discount (like WalMart selling the game and gun for $60 rather than the normal $80)
One of the early DK1 era demos, Asunder, had a game-over where you died by gunshot, which was represented by suddenly losing sight in one eye before everything faded out to deep red. It was quite affecting!
I've been wanting to see a game use a material that showed a different color to each eye, or that cycled through impossible colors. Or a silent hill style game with monsters that could jitter into slightly different poses per-eye (like its legs and feet kept walking toward you, but the upper body was in two poses at the same time). There's a lot of interesting perceptual stuff that could be used for impact, but that would probably cause headaches if used too often.
VR headsets would be awesome at letting people experience various symptoms of brain damage. Oh man.
So, this Smurfs game (developed by Sony, huh) for MS Hololens looks pretty cool.
But I don't get how a company can guarantee a consistently good play experience when everybody's environment is different. Nobody will have the same play surfaces (tables, floors, etc.). And you have to clear all the crap off your table each time you want to play.
Instead, why not instead use VR and generate the same play area for everybody?
I think ARE is cool, but playing the same game in one person's home could be very different from playing at someone else's home (for better or for worse).
I totally don't 'get' AR for gaming. Like it'll be cool for tons of experiences and serious stuff but I can't imagine much in the way of gaming application.

I might just not be inventive enough.
Right, I don't get it either. And some demos they show stuff coming through walls or mapped to walls but the walls in every person's home will be different as well.
I guess for cockpit sims it could be a neat way to handle the issue of your real sticks, throttles and wheels showing up in-game. And it could sidestep the tactile issue where manipulating objects with the Touch and Vive wands still doesn't really feel convincing -- you could maybe make a choose your own adventure video flipbook using a book of blank pages. Card games and miniatures games with blank cards or empty bases. I could see other turn based games working well with a pointing accessory that has a few buttons on it.
I'm blanking on concepts that use your furniture and room layout, though. It might be useful for those sites doing VR laser tag? And I suppose it would be good for a house of horrors experience around Halloween. With multiple players and some RC controllers AR tank combat could be fun, or AR slot car racing and Hot Wheels style tracks that run through your house.
Hm, AR faux RC tank combat might be the way to go. Get the 40K license, include 40K vehicles from bikes up to Titan scale models, and let people to choose to fight on a virtual battlefield or call in orbital bombardments to shoot up their living room.
In other news, Battlezone VR is coming to Rift/Vive, so after this and Robinson's Journey and Batman VR it looks like there might be hope for Resident Evil.
Superhot VR is crazy fun. Honestly, getting access to the Oculus Rift library has rekindled my love for VR. I'm looking forward to trying Robo Recall once I finish Superhot. Any other gotta-play Oculus suggestions (that aren't also on the Vive)?
How hard was it to get working? Is the experience pretty seamless once it works?
I'm tempted to do this, but didn't want to throw money at something that maybe works. Especially if it's coming to Vive eventually.

I had absolutely zero problems with it.
Signing up for Oculus gives you a couple apps for free that you can try out. I tried out Oculus First Contact and it worked just fine, so I went ahead and got Superhot, which also worked just fine.
Just be sure to check the Compatibility List before buying anything, and make sure ReVive is up to date.
Finished up Mortal Blitz tonight, sadly it's very short. It's a real shame because, simple as the game is with about 5 different enemy variations, I had an absolute blast with it. Truly captured that arcade game spirit. That said, at the 2 hour length it is pretty much 'arcade' in length too, those games were never very long.
There's plenty of replay value, I only played through it on normal, I'll be bumping the difficulty up over the next few nights and going at it again. There's also a 'training room' with I think 50 different stages of moving targets. Overall I loved it, I'll be going back to it and playing it again but I wouldn't recommend it to someone that's not a light gun fan and isn't happy replaying the same 5 stages.
I would pay SO much for a 5 to 6 hour experience like this.
As a bonus, here's 40 seconds of me looking like an idiot playing it:
Growth is not profit, nor do they mention profit anywhere in that article. Of course VR is growing.

I just got a £10 cash-back voucher from PSN. So I spent it on pre-ordering Polybius, a machine game designed by Jeff Minter (lovely dude, met him once!) for melting minds:

No, but Jeff made the visualizer for the XB360, among many other things, so their work might be present, as some of his code is in at least one version of Winamp, or a plugin:

I just started using it, but it seems to work fine. Though I had it output my performance while ingame... apparently I can't tell between 45fps with asw/atw and 90, because I was getting hardcore 45fps in the few games I checked.
Got my nephew and brother to try out the PSVR. He loves it, batman was absolutely his thing and whilst it was a little scary at the beginning, he was smiling all the way through. His dad on the other hand has a difficult time. I think it was the lack of space in the room as he was sat on the bed about 3 get away from thethe camera b nowhere near ideal for VR but it's the only space for it right now.
I totally don't 'get' AR for gaming. Like it'll be cool for tons of experiences and serious stuff but I can't imagine much in the way of gaming application.

Augmented boardgames and cardgames is what I'd use AR for for gaming.
Playing a miniatures wargame and my AR can instantly figure out range, LOS, and firing resolution? Cool.
Playing a boardgame and my AR tracks players score and updates it in real time? Sweet.
And I'm sure there are other novel applications. I would't want all my games to be this way, but, already boardgames mix well with apps on tablets, so mixing boardgame with AR support seems a logical next step.
