I work with activists, devout muslims, Iranians, and somalians. I wish I had chosen a profession that would allow me to help empower them at all.

Be ready to listen if they need help and offer what you can. When you're with people without your experiences speak up for and humanize your co-workers.

This isn't really a process I know how to profligate, but those low-level connections go a long way.

And being a decent human is a political action now, so don't feel bad for not having more sway than you do. Plenty of lawyers and policy writers are frustrated by the limits they're facing too.

Trump and Bannon are not scary because they are genius supervillains. They're scary because they're fucking incompetent and don't care. They don't know what their legal limits are, and they don't want to know, they want to make their proclamations and rule like God-Kings, damn anyone or anything that says differently.

    Proof?

Just look at this stupid piece of shit EO and everything after.

This is not some evil master plan. This is the work of morons that no one is willing to say no to.

Also, that thing about "humanizing" yourself to Trump voters? Bullshit. The best you can do is painstakingly have yourself marked as "one of the ok ones", but that's not going to change the fire hose of filth streaming into their brains from Facebook and Fox, and certainly not change their views or voting habits. And if you happen to get affected? "Damn, I never woulda guessed he was one a them. Oh well, time for the clan rally!"

For me (another Oregonian, and Gen-X), it's a mix of hope and resignation. Hope that things don't get completely terrible, especially here; resignation that if they do, I am just not equipped - financially, emotionally, physically, etc etc - to survive a civil war or as a refugee, any more than I could (or would want to) live through a nuclear war and the aftermath.
So in order to remain functional at all, I keep going through the motions, doing what I can, and hoping the Union does not perish. Because if it does, so do I. Simple as that.

I'm a disabled (from birth) guy in my late 30s (turn 37 in a couple weeks) with late onset type 1 diabetes living in NH. I require a fair amount of care, and rely on Medicaid and Medicare to live. If things really go sideways, well, I'll die. Point blank.

I'm also an atheist, so I'm more than a bit concerned with the Mirror Universe version of utterly evil Christianity some in Trump's circle want to propagate.

I've created a new Trump thread. Please read the OP and note the rules in there. Thank you!

I submitted an entry to Lego Ideas, and if 10,000 people support me, it'll be turned into an actual Lego set!If you'd like to see and support my submission, follow this link.
