Might need to tweak the firing macro some.

This is one of the reasons I've not bothered with a rapid-fire AC2 mech. Can't be bothered to set up a firing macro.

On the flip-side, the Boomhammer is civilization (on the maps that don't have Alpine, Polar, or Frozen in their name).

You don't really need a macro.

    4 guns?

Put all four of them into three groups. So all three groups have all four guns. Enable chain fire. Then you basically just fire all three groups at one time and you'll achieve near-macro level cycling.

Talking about firing macros. How do people group the guns in the 2 UAC5/2 UAC10 kdk-3?

I used to group the two different weapons in two groups. Then fired all at once if in range, otherwise I'd use the 5s for their range.

So since ive started my assault experiment my stats are :

    M W L W/L K D K/D DMG XP TIME
    AWESOME AWS-8Q 45 28 17 1.65 36 27 1.33 17,022 44,968 05:35:04

    CYCLOPS CP-11-A 52 25 27 0.93 38 32 1.19 19,083 40,080 06:14:05

    HIGHLANDER 51 25 26 0.96 34 34 1.00 14,237 34,700 05:59:59

Think this just tells me that I am better with PPC based weaponry . So yay for new kinds. As an aside I have no interest in the rough neck but its warhorn sounds amazing. Still , really love how the awesome is this stocky angry looking mech. Since I was running it with only basic skills I haven't noticed almost anything detrimental agility wise and in fact it seems to handle a bit better now . Can someone confirm?

edit- Really apreciate the forum just ignoring the formatting and putting everything everywhere. That's cool. Also bought and outfit an Atlas-S. Wanted to play it but having fun with the awesome.

So I finally got around to downloading this, and have that free Centurion that they gave away a while ago thanks to this thread highlighting it at the time.

There is a ton of jargon that gets thrown at you and I haven't really played a Mechwarrior game since MW2 so I'm pretty rusty even with that.

Then when I look at what is available there are variants of different individual mechs, some of which are apparently good and others bad. Then there is customisation on top of that. Which is fine, because the primary reason I love mech games is tinkering with giant robots.

So if I was going to take that free Centurion they gave me and tune it up, how would I approach it. I did some googling but there aren't a lot of guides for upgrading that freebie.

If I was going to drop say, $30 into this to get started what direction would I go?

Which model was the free cent again? We need to know that since that dictates how many / what kind of weapons it can mount.

    You should buy clan mechs.

The centurion is tempting you towards joining us in the Sphere. It is a path of masochism.

Before trying to spec out your cent, try and play some of the free (and not customizable) trial mechs. There are 4 in each weight class, 2 IS and 2 clan, and should give you some time to play the game to figure out what's going on and earn c-bills without having to make a commitment.

As long as he only sticks to Quick Play (and depending on the particular mech), there are still some good IS mechs. The Orion is super tanky (but slow for now because lol-IS XL engines), the Warhammer can function as a solidly effective Boomhammer, I still really enjoy my MAD-BH2, and...well...that's about it (from what I've seen with my stable of IS mechs).

But yes, Clan mechs are the golden path to getting an effective mech. Yes, there are still pitfall mechs...but they're few and far between.

I think the free Cent is the A variant which used to be 2 ML in the center torso and 3 SRM4s (or was it SRM6s) in the left torso with a Standard Engine to Zobmie with. Then the braver ran 2 Medium Pulse Lasers in it I believe.

Not sure about today's build though.

    Recommendations by weight class:
    Light -
    Arctic Cheetah
    Jenner IIc
(Adder and Kit Fox are also mildly useful)

    Medium -
    Shadow Cat
    Huntsman
    Hunchback IIc
    Stormcrow
(Nova and Viper can also be useful)

    Heavy -
    Ebon Jaguar
    Hellbringer
    Timber Wolf
    Night Gyr
(Mad dog can be made to work)

    Assault-
    Kodiak
    Warhawk
    Marauder IIc
    (Direwolf can also be useful)

Save your money for buying mechbays, there are too many events and cbills available through playing to buy mechs with, especially until the developers stop funnelling all the money from MWO to their new game.

Had my first game, it was saying that Light mechs were needed so I took a Jenner and ran around the edges of the big ice map. It seemed like everyone just hiding in the snow drifts lobbing missiles over the top so I went behind them and hit them with the missiles to force them out at which point other people took care of them.

Didn't realise the missiles I was firing were dumb, but once I had the range down on them it went smoother.

Ran out of them at the end, so I just ran around their remaining mechs to try and get them to shoot at me instead of the armed ones we had left.

There are plenty of good IS mechs. Battlemasters, for instance, make great LPL boats.

Actually, everyone in IS should just run LPLs. Their short duration makes it very difficult to twist against them effectively, since they dump half their damage before the average person can even react. That will probably change next month though, when they overhaul energy weapons.

I saw people setting up radars, spotting enemy units from long range and shooting down missile salvos in matches. I enjoy playing supportive roles in certain games.

Is that something you can specifically do or is that more restricted to faction warframe stuff, because there seems to be a lot of games I'm running into that are both sides just firing large volleys of missiles at each other and gumming up the works seems like a lot of fun.

Ended up going with a Hunchback. Did some digging on basic builds and ended up with this.
    foFiOw8.jpg?1

It's been great for close to mid range, on the more wide open maps I've just been focusing on covering the larger mechs from the lights that come in from the sides.

There is support role jobs that can be performed, but the force multiplier on them is marginal so that your team is always better off if you can perform in a combat role too.

    Ecm coverage
    Lrm support fire

So who at PGI thought that putting a Atlas with a Standard 50 engine with no armor as the VIP mech was a good idea on Escort?

Just got out of a match where the time from "VIP mech under attack" to VIP mech getting entirely cored out by one enemy was <20 seconds.

Depending on the mech, you can fully blame the very nature of MWO's FPS modeled combat. Considering that a Mad Dog can mount a loadout that has a 92 damage alpha (or a 100 damage alpha depending on if you go with ERSLs or ERMLs), and the VIP mech has something like 200 front armor and a bit over 300 armor on its back, that only amounts to 3-4 alphas on the front from said Mad Dog (which has a 4 second un-skilled cooldown between alphas) to bring down the VIP mech.

Yeah, there are some workable Sphere mechs. But it's like comparing minor to major league players here. The Warhammer and Marauder are good 75 ton Sphere mechs. But they don't hold a candle to thoe timberwolf.

That's the thing about mech balance in this game. Clan players have a tendency to point towards the Sphere having some mechs that aren't garbage and can still feasibly win some fights. Sphere players point towards the Clans having the strongest mechs in EVERY WEIGHT CLASS and an acute power gap before you finally work your way down the list of best mechs and find a Sphere mech.

With the new skill system that was implemented, each mech has its own xp / skill point pool that doesnt carry across to other mechs, even the exact same model.

Just that specific Hunchie. Every instance of a 'Mech in your bays now has it's own Skill Tree, separate from all other 'Mechs you own.

I really like that you are rewarded for offering ECM coverage to your team, it's rare that gets included.

So, taking @Kaboodles_The_Assassin 's advice, I decided to run a Battlemaster with lots of LPLs.

    This BLR-1G was the result.

I wasn't even running it with ES to give me four more heatsinks and it was still kicking ass. Then I realized I could fit ES on it. I imagine it's gonna get way, way meaner now.
