Also Man is black widow supposed to be super tough at first? Cos I’ve died more in this first big battle with her than any point in the game up until now
Edit: getting the hang of her, she’s awesome, but holy shit that fight against like the 3 adaptoids, so may laser beams
her introduction mission is painful, but she grows into one of the strongest heroes in the game.

After the initial shock of how quickly she drops it was ok. While it was brutal it also felt right since she doesn’t have super powers, so you lean more on doing specific moves rather than kind of just button mashing which had gotten me by up until that point
As a mission though I thought it was awesome, and once I’d downed the boss I found myself appreciating the combat more. Very intense and thrilling.
I’m really loving this game so far, especially the campaign

Yeah, for Widow, Iron Man and Thor they went "here's a new hero you haven't played that doesn't have any skills yet, have fun against these high-tier enemies!"

Yeah it was nuts, but it actually ultimately kind of snapped me fully into the combat and I felt very engaged. Previously I had kind of been able to just mash my way through most encounters.
But god damn I’m really enjoying the campaign, the character beats are great.
That elite vault I did last night was brutal. It had that modifier so ranged attacks his harder. A single ranged hit of ANY type would instantly kill me.
I got through it but man!
Echo - that is exactly what I said on the voice actress' IG post when the game came out. Give me that movie!
Is this Khamala training mission with the healing supposed to be this hard? I can survive to like 50 seconds using grabs to heal but I just never make it to a minute. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
Edit gah just realised I’m supposed to collect the yellow drops
Yeah that one tripped me up because I don't think they ever told you what yellows do
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I really wish the stand on this spot mission would die. If you have more than 1 human player it’s easy to sorta coordinate, but with 3 AI’s they are so dumb and either don’t engage the enemies outside the circle worth a damn, and definitely don’t stand inside it. If it was only stand her, but you can go out and attack those things without any penalty, that’d be fine. But if you leave the circle too long then you fail cuz the AIM whatever wins.
there's a bunch of bad companion interactions - the vault pad timer doesn't advance unless a human player is standing on it - it won't detect the AI companions on it even if you get them in the right location
Crashing on the sixth floor of the elite hive is a big ow. Not keen to have to do it all over again, but I suppose it gives a decent amount of xp.
I feel like the latest patch may have caused me to start having a memory leak problem. Things run smooth as heck until I die and have to reload, then things start to get worse as time goes on. Didn't have that problem before, so hopefully it gets sorted.
Anyways, gear in this game has been weird. All my crew are like, 20+ at minimum, but the item powerlevel goes from 30-70, with many of the higher power levels going to the lower level characters. It's.. not great, as it seems i'll need to hit the higher powerlevels if I want to start doing some newer missions, now that i'm through the iconic missions.
At any rate ima keep slugging through this. At the least there's been a sliver in plot re: the iconic missions and leveling speed hasn't been too painful. I am pretty keen already to know what kinda timeframe the hawkeye stuff is on though.

The stand on one spot isn't that bad, but the triple usually means my 3 ai teammates do jack and shit and I have to play hero ball.

Yeah, I can't believe they shipped with such abysmal AI. I guess technically the missions are completable solo, just by frantically running back and forth and trying to single-handedly control 3 capture points at once. But it sure isn't fun to play that way.
And of course since matchmaking doesn't work most of the time, getting humans to do it for you is just as hard or harder than completing it with dumb AI.

anybody got any good suggestions for getting this to run even vaguely ok on a pretty high-end pc (water-cooled 3950x, a lot of fast ram, 2070 super, ssds etc)?
have
1) disabled gsync
2) most bells and whistles
3) no exclusive fullscreen
4) no amd shit
5) no vsync etc
it is just chonking like a fucker - drops down to 4fps even in some situations
My other annoyance, and it seems to have calmed down with this patch a bit, is when you’re lining up a ranged shot and Iron Man stands in front of you, or Hulk. The other one is, I’m zooming along on the ground and AI decides to take the same exact path and gets in front of me bumping me all around. I like that you can’t just run through your teammates but Gawd Damnnnit guys get out of my way when I’m trying to take down someone and you come screaming in from off screen and get in front of me!

My setup is worse than yours and I don't get performance issues like that. I wouldn't even know where to start troubleshooting the issue, other than some bizarre hardware incompatibility.

i even tried despicable things like capping to 60 but no dice
its gotta be something odd but such is life, its not even anything over 1080
Got to the third floor of the elite hive and those flying adaptoids are some massively un-fun bullshit with an attack that just oneshots you at any range if you don't hit the 0.25 second dodge window.

it definitely needs a couple optimization passes and or driver love from nvidia, i am on a i9/32gb/2080 ti rig and even after fiddling with settings a bit it still chugs in places it has no business chugging at.

The only thing I can think of is check Geforce Experience's recommended settings? I had some pretty gnarly issues at first and using that as a guide (plus the AMD thing) seemed to help TREMENDOUSLY. Here's my configuration, if it helps (8700K, 2080, SSD):
HDR: On
Resolution: 2560x1440
Fullscreen: On
Exclusive Fullscreen: Off
VSync: Off
Anti-Aliasing: TAA
AMD FidelityFX: Off
Dynamic Resolution Scaling: Off
Screen Space Reflections: SSSR
Motion Blur: Off
Bloom: On
Volumetric: Low
Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+
Level of Detail: Ultra
Shadow Quality: Ultra
Screen Space Contact Shadows: On
Tessellation: On
VFX Quality: High
Depth of Field: Very High
Texture Filtering: 16x Anisotropic
Texture Quality: High
Lens Flares: On
Screen Effects: On
Enhanced Water Simulation: On
Enhanced Destruction: On
I've got two machines I've tried the game on: One with a i7-8700k and a 1080 Ti and another one with a Ryzen 7 3800X and a 2070 SUPER. Both running at 1440p. Preset to high, but adjusted to turn motion blur off and textures back up to Ultra and I get very few issues, I may have also adjusted other things but it's to turn them up a bit, not down. During normal gameplay they both sit around 60-70fps with the 1080ti machine getting somewhat infrequent drops to the 40s at most. The 2070 SUPER machine is using vsync but I get pretty much no drops otherwise, it sits at a locked 60. I'm not using DRS on either. The only issue I've had is like a total of 5 crashes (none in the last couple days) over 40+ hours.
tbh if I didn't see several complaints of people with similar issues I'd think the PC version is actually doing pretty well. But on some machines it's just like "nah, I'm just not gonna work." I saw a streamer with a very similar issue in the second PC beta weekend, it would literally drop down to like 1fps out of nowhere, but afaik it resolved itself between beta and launch. The game is still definitely doing something they need to fix.

see that ryzen system is similar to mine so not sure whats up
eh ill just give it a week for drivers and patching and see what happens not the end of the world
I have beaten the story I am the strongest avenger!
Thoughts on the last mission
I loved the final boss rotating through the various avengers, absolutely hated a section well before that when you're playing cap against like 3 demo bots and 2 adaptoids where you get fucking nailed from every direction.
Kamala's unlocked outfit at the end is bad ass. Also nice to have a hulk outfit where he doesn't look all bruised.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

stopping the game executable using my cpu core 0 massively improved things - tentatively at 110+fps on the next kamala mission
i messed around a bit and it seems possibly its just some stupid interaction with the fact my ram is dual rank or something? in principle this should not ever help but hey, it went from fucked to actually playable so ill throw it in in case it helps out anybody else
I kind of like that finishing the story unlocks a bunch of crap, because ordinarily what keeps me from finishing a story are all the dumb bullshit missions.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
So using the Quick Mission thingy, I got matched up with 3 people. Me as Iron Man, as I wanted to level him up a bit. Then there was a Cap and a Black Widow. We start up a mission and load in. Hulk stays at the load spot, and Cap doesn’t move either. BW and I start going on and doing stuff, when all of a sudden a notice pops up about leaving the mission. I hit the touchpad to veto. Boom we’re back in the menus. Pick mission, repeat, same shit. This time Cap is auto booted out. During this, the BW guy was talking so I got up and put my headset on. Just the two of us did wonderful together using voice comms. It was a blast! Until a bug where we’re supposed to clear all the bad guys in a room, but one of them spawned under the floor somewhere we couldn’t reach with abilities. Restarting from last checkpoint didn’t help. So I had to quit and go make dinner but that was some FUN.
I've been picking a mission, starting matchmaking and then fucking around in the menus and that has gotten me at least one teammate if not two. I had one time the mission loaded us wrong, but it just restarted the mission.
I like that the strikes have a story chain and has a bit of a campaign vibe including cut scenes.
I've been having a lot of fun with the after campaign stuff. I love leveling stuff and the combat is pretty fun, some enemies not included.
The first time I used Magna Missile in the Hulkbuster was awesome.
I love this game but I’ll do so many objectives perfectly then an enemy will be stuck somewhere and I have to restart the checkpoint and of course then all the hostages die and I struggle to beat it again
Man the tutorials with characters who can’t get health back easily are a bitch. This fucking iron man tutorial is driving me nuts
Woof finally got it by basically turning the final Goliath bot fight into a shootout

When I play Iron Man I'm either slaying or needing hulk to pick me up every five seconds. There is no inbetween. I do say at least his melee from the air have auto targeting unlike say Thors Heavy Slam which I can never seemingly land appropriately.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Yeah like in the field I’m normally ok when I’m not doing well cos of the health barrells, but the tutorial has none, and it’s basically impossible to stun in it, I managed to get it just by dodging like a maniac then hiding in cover to charge up shots against the Goliath bot
So captain America can’t open doors or consoles? Why would they do this? Like it doesn’t encourage me to play in groups it just makes my playing captain America mean I miss out on chests
Like if they were going for that route they should have made like each character have unique door openings, so whoever you go as you get a bonus. Or just really made every character to open every damn door and stop wasting everyone’s time
Also I love the campaign and combat in this game. I feel like I’m only getting annoyed at all these things cos I really enjoy the game. There’s just a lot to improve
I wish there was more enemy variety visually, like keep the kind of classes of enemies but maybe give me something to fight other than robots and guys in suits who basically look like robots
The thing that bugged me the most about Cap not being able to use consoles or break down doors was that his iconic missions are full of doors you have to unlock or bash down and it's like, well, wish you hadn't designed this map this way! But also at this point I'm largely opening chests/rescuing people only if I have an assignment/task to do so.
Some of the challenges are way more finnicky than others, and I always get them as a result of passing on a challenge I didn't want to do. I've got one for Black Widow that is to kill the big mech things with ranged shots to their weak points, and a) I have very little idea where the weak points are on those and it doesn't do a great job of letting me know when I've hit them, and b) I generate so much stun with Black Widow that in the process of getting these mechs to the point where I can defeat them, they get stunned and my AI teammates do a team combo on it and fuck my day up. I also started playing Kamala a bit close to the daily reset and Thor fucked up my "hit three enemies at once with the high five" challenge up multiple times by queuing up his God Blast ability right as I hit the "high five" button, which means as the hand is going out, five robots shoot up and hover in the air, over the fucking hand. Also sometimes I swear I hit it and it didn't register? Who knows.
I'm on what I assume is the last postgame quest chain, which is basically just, "do this elite hive mission, now do this elite story mission, now do this elite vault mission, now repeat," which I assume is unlocking a super hive mission, to tide me over until more content drops, and I'm basically doing one part of the chain a day. As of right now I don't fully feel any sort of pressing time constraint to gear up, since a) I don't really know what I'd be grinding up for and b) I don't really play with anyone so there's no real social pressure, either. I've checked the reddit, and there's a lot of, "I'm losing days of time on these faction rep quests that won't unlock!" and yeah, it's frustrating that you can't do the content the game is telling you to do, I get that! Fuckin, full on complain about that! But also uh...I don't know if there's a time limit on those and most of the rewards aren't exactly inspiring.
I'm enjoying checking in for an hour or two a day right now, I'm sure eventually I'll check out until probably when they add Kate to the game, but that's fine.
