Yes! Multiple people talk to him and mention him by name!

Jughead also explicitly says he doesn't exist at the end of episode 2

counter-point it is Jughead writing his novel

Jughead is a 15 year old emo kid

ergo Jughead is a bad writer who doesn't use sentences well

Also I just watched it tonight and I am pretty sure he opens with "If you asked the people there last night, they would have seen 4 kids in a booth. But really there were only 3."

Dude is clearly being a dumb 15 year old noir writer

Yeah, my reading was that he thinks he's some deep emo guy who's just an observer

But maybe he's saying he's not a kid, he's an adult

    Maybe he's saying he's magic

oh God what if he's magic

if the season finale reveal is that Jughead was Sabrina's familiar the whole time then we can throw out The Wire and Breaking Bad because TV will have a new all-timer

I haven't had as much fun watching a show in YEARS as I have watching Riverdale

it has quickly become appointment viewing

and aside from the usual cultural osmosis stuff I have absolutely no knowledge of the Archieverse

Yeah I know nothing about Archie except the main 3-4 characters names and that's about it. I'm still loving this show because it's so trashy, but like it was specifically designed to be as trashy as possible instead of just because it's bad.

Its comic sensibilities kind of remind me of like the first season of Glee.

A crust of spunky sweetness over an otherwise dark sense of humor. Lots of teen drama which like, kinda matter to the people involved, but also has a healthy dose of knowing irony.

    Kana on
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

Like, not a juggernaut but it is doing perfectly acceptable ratings for CW

My town's high school has the exact same school colors as Riverdale's and I listened to the high school music teacher brag about having sex with a former student.

So it's knocking on Riverdale's door...

So we're groupwatching this again on Friday, right? I am willing to give it another chance, provided we do another lead-in cheesy 80s high school flick, because that gets me in the proper mode.

    Taking suggestions for that now.

If you're not aware, Cole Sprouse is as in Cole & Dylan Sprouse, of Big Daddy and "Suite Life of Zack and Cody" fame.

EDIT: No, he is not the one that commentated Smash games.

This must be a generation thing, because I keep seeing/hearing people mention this as if it's a huge deal, but I can't say I've ever even heard of these shows or people until now.

It may be the next generation's equivalent of Kenan Thompson ending up on SNL

It's honestly after my time, but my little brother loved that show as a kid.

    Archie is SO HOT.

I desperately want this show to slowly spiral into the occult with just enough obfuscation to not be certain until the season finale when Sabrina appears.

What if they do a Supernatural crossover, and there's just an episode where Castiel is desperately trying to tell them they're in danger and nobody believes him and then he just vanishes and everyone's like "what was that about?" "shrug emoji"

If they get a second season, they should do an "Afterlife With Archie" Halloween episode. If you didn't know, that's the surprisingly hardcore Archie Walking Dead-esque spinoff series.

I mean, I know it's not for everyone

But comparing it to Walking Dead is kind of harsh
