I was just counting my 100 gem results since I started doing them during the double BSB fest (so two fests ago). 5 hits in 65 pulls. I'm way below the expected rate of return. After 95 pulls on average I should have 12 or 13, I think.

Google had given me 10 credit with Fi around Christmas so I used that as free play money and it was kinda stupid effective for those 10 - I got 4 or 5 - so my expectations are probably way off.

I mean, if you had to get a dupe, a 2nd +holy shield is a pretty good item. I have 2 as well.

Also, thanks to double greens for all, I have finally hit 100k greens. Now I just need to figure out when is best to just pop it. I think tomorrow definitely, but I am debating if I throw it at more exp, or wait to pop it before the bonus battles to guarantee clearing them that day. Probably going to go xp, but I do love the bonus battles. I could wait for orbfest, but that is just too far away.

I took the double greens opportunity to clean a few outstanding dailies for the Mythril and that got me back to 12k or so after doing the Chocobo exchange for Mythril. I guess I just don't do dailies much.

Dailies are just the fastest way to spend stamina. I don't have a lot of time in the mornings and on my lunch break, so I wind up doing a lot of dailies pretty consistently.
And then Sunday rolls around and I spend all my stamina on dailies even though I have lots of time.

This double greens thing is great, though. Got my 100k stamina shard, so I've only got one 10k one left (probably get it tomorrow or something), and I've gone and gotten every dark matter that I can use, so that's nice. Lots of newly upgraded +++!

Outside of events dailies are pretty much the only thing I have to do in this game currently. I usually finish off the realm updates in a day or two of release so just mindlessly auto attacking gives me something to do, and a slow way to master SBs. Honestly I am not even that big of a farmer compared to other vets. Typically I do enough to get my mithril and call it quits, but those 4 stamina shards under 179 haunt me.

It really isn't even worth worrying about in the large picture. This represents like weeks of work on my part to get a single stamina shard. Realm dungeons crap those out constantly by comparison. By the time you would even want to worry about it we will almost certainly have a set greens dungeon that I think will make it better. I hope so at least. The current system kind of sucks.

Nightmare Omega done. Firion's BSB makes the fight a joke. Spent a lot of phase 2 attacking the orbs because Tyro as a solo healer was a poor idea so I needed the extra healing badly, but hey, all Nightmares done with full Nightmare synergy parties.

Then it crashed instead of playing whatever the "all Nightmare fights done" video is.

    Lovely.

R2 on both is going to be cutting in close. I go through all 12 uses in slower fights without big buffs. You could probably get away with it as long as you make that person your RW caster.

If you're in the habit of RWing a BSB, that works too; Keeper's Tome and Vessel of Fate being great for those purposes. My standard generic dual mitigation plan is to use Keeper's Tome for RW on my WhM at the start, and then the Chain Charger if they get close to running dry since that's about when the timer runs out, but honestly, with both at R3, even in U++ battles, that's pretty rare. I am stacked with some top end stuff though.

R2 you'll definitely run dry in the upper level battles. Stretch it by making them the dedicated RW user, and yeah, a BSB to fall back on would help immensely. I'd certainly say it's usable though. You just might get stuck auto attacking some at the end.

Got it. Thanks for the responses.

I had noticed Lightning had the ratings to use it and got to thinking. Well, really, it was moreso because I was on mid-high tier content hitting quad 9s with Life Siphon and the boss was dying before I even needed to SB, so I swapped to Tempo Flurry and ended up with more overall damage per action simply because of cap. Then I went looking back at abilities to see other options and took a closer look at Full Charge. From the sounds of it, I'll just shelve it for much later, it's not worth the investment at the moment given my resources and I get far better usage out of her SB combo instead at the really high level stuff.

Yeah Powerchain + Full Charge is a very effective combination, but as I said when I brought it up the first time it is quite expensive. It's not something a newer player is likely to be able to afford. Even with both at r3 it doesn't give you much time before you run out of hones. I have r3 Powerchain and r2 Full Charge myself, but when I use Full Charge it is with Tidus, and I have his BSB to use after running out of hones.

So the mythril bonuses are getting kinda crazy...

    PcFQUiI.png

Not that I'm complaining or anything.

PowerCharge is my Lightning's default ability set, and her BSB is only used as a stat boost + the initiation being a good chunk of damage since it's SSB grade. I've got both at R3 but R2 would be rather risky on some fights like Nightmares and especially Torments. PowerCharge does good DPS and it's a very very strong and viable combination, it just chews through your hones.

There will not be enough Mythril before the 2nd anniversary. Keep it coming, DeNa!

I ChainCharge on Tyro as one of my DPS on my A-team. He does respectable damage if I'm able to get him to the ATK soft cap.

Having finally gotten around to doing it, holy crap does the XP daily dungeon give a lot of SB mastery.

Yeah the XP dungeon is great. I very rarely do anything else on Sundays, even though that is when the bonus battles arrive currently.

That said I have been a slacker on my alt account and have had to do the 160 and 200 multiplayer battles on Sunday on my alt account these past couple of weeks, but that doesn't take a lot of stamina so it's not a big deal.

It is the best thing you can run to get a team up and going bar none. I wouldn't skip it till you feel comfortable taking down all current content. Beyond raw levels it is the only remotely efficient way to master anything but unique SBs. Less than 10 levels to master anything is so nice! Then you can more easily use synergy gear to fully utilize those characters. The leveling up is amazing as well, though it feels slow to me as you get higher. Still until post 80, which is generally still viable for use, it is pretty solid xp.

  • chrisnlchrisnl Registered User regular
Well leveling as a whole slows down as you get higher in level. The daily experience dungeon is always the most experience you can get, though orbfest and other special dungeons like the FFIX greens dungeon we had a while back give about 80% as much experience in addition to other rewards that generally make them the better choice.

  • SpectrumSpectrum Archer of Inferno Chaldea Rec RoomRegistered User regular
Hmm. I guess my priorities are weird. I have a vast swath of characters I don't care about yet due to lack of appropriate SBs and don't get new equipment fast enough that I can't just Growth Egg them to where I need when I am finally interested in having them around.

    XNnw6Gk.jpg
  • ArcTangentArcTangent Registered User regular
Honestly, I kind of feel like I'm close to done with the experience dungeons. All my CM teams and people I have passable CMs for are 75+, just about all of my MC3'd people are 95+, and I have enough eggs to bring at least 2-3 people straight from 80-99 if I wanted to. Eggs don't come in quite fast enough to keep up with MC3 releases, but I'm not feeling a huge need for the unremarkable C-lineup to go from 80 to 99 anyway.

I get eggs fast enough to not care. I have a sea of characters I will never use at low level sure, but they are irrelevant to me. The relevant ones I can typically egg up to whatever level I want them to be and go from there. I don't bother with like 90% of cms mind you, but the principle is ultimately the same in that you eventually hit a point where you have as many characters leveled up as you really need. I still hit up the daily more regularly than other because it is still beneficial, but any character I plan on regularly using just gets egged to 99.

  • Gnome-InterruptusGnome-Interruptus Registered User regular
I still only have two characters at 99, and that is Onion Knight and Luneth from their realm synergy XP dungeon.

Everyone else I get an MC3 for, I only take up to 90, as that is roughly a level 80 with synergy. It also leaves lots of room if I get them more relics. Though I do miss out on those sweet MC3 RMs.

It really does depend on whether you have a fallback BSB or an RW BSB to use with the ChainCharger, though the amount of damage the rest of your team also matters, of course.

My Onion Knight usually carries R3 in both PC/FC, but once he goes through 3 uses of each he's already got enough meter to use his BSB, which is self-perpetuating due to the commands. I've dawdled a bit in fights by using another PC to instacast his BSB, and alternating his C1 with FC.

XIII banner 1 fits surprisingly well with what I've got. I have a different view for a review...
Fang gets her OSB (wind/non), and 2 SSBs: (1) wind/non 6.68/8 en-wind, and (2) fire/wind 7.68/6 -50% atk/mag. SSB1 is a dupe, but the SSB2 makes Fang a candidate to replace Agrias with Clear Tranquil (I credit Clear Tranquil and Wall as the reasons I've been able to finish nearly everything except Torments and II/III Mote CMs). And OSB plus imperil wind BSB or en-wind SSB? Yes please!

Lightning gets her imperil lightning BSB and an SSB with lightning/non 4.96/8 en-lightning. The BSB is an imperil BSB - other lightning BSBs become nearly self-sustaining in SB meter, which is great, and the commands are short CT. The SSB pays an unusually large en-element tax, which makes it uninteresting. Except that it's quite good if you have her OSB. Which I do. Oh, and Lightning's 5.04/3 self instant-cast 2 SB (Flamberge, with Smite) shows up as a not-too-shabby consolation prize.

Sazh gets his party +atk/mag self instant-castx2 BSB with 20% debuff commands that stack with Clear Tranquil, and an SSB with atk+50% magic blink 1. I know which one I prefer, but I'll take wrath-able magic blink as a consolation prize, thank you. (And Boon was my co-MVP with SSII until I pulled Clear Tranquil and Shout was available for RW. More options for Sazh would be great.)

Vanille's Mistilteinn BSB comes back. Some people think this BSB is terribly overrated and only want Asylum. Some people think the opposite. I think that most of the healer BSBs are fantastic and make the core of a Torment-capable team, and I'm still waiting to get one. Not for lack of pulling.

I count 6 excellent items I'd love to pull that would immediately find uses on my A teams (such as they are), 2 decent items I could find situational uses for (Sazh SSB and Lightning SB), and one dupe. How often do we get odds that good?

Be aware that it takes an absurdly long time to break even on the egg investment to get Luneth to 99 unless you're going to do a shit-ton of refreshing during orbfest and/or using the Break trick to maximize the XP procs. Depending on your particular protocol for using XP RMs, it could be something like five months' worth of daily dungeons before you come out ahead.

Of course, if you aren't going to miss the eggs and MC3 in the interim, might as well.

I find that Fang's SSBs are more interesting than her OSB (unless the SSB1 comes WITH the OSB, of course). En-wind means she's an instant candidate for Sky High and can join Luneth/Alphinaud/Fujin on the wind team. Her dual break is useful and boostable, but doesn't really replace Agrias's Cleansing Strike, because Agrias can also pack ProShell, Banishing Strike, spellblades, etc. while Fang gets...Dismissal.

Lightning's imperil BSB is definitely neat, though I'm not sure it'd be capable of supplanting Fran's Pinpoint, since Fran also serves as my support. Her SSB en-lightning is nice, but for lightning damage she'd be competing against Ashe (BSB), Kain (BSB), and Orlandeau (OSB), all of whom easily outdo her in terms of damage unless she ChainCharges (she could take Ashe's spot and I'd RW a Shout instead of OK BSB). Flamberge is a dupe for me, so meh.

Sazh's BSB isn't too interesting for me since I normally carry Ark Blast and Cleansing Strike already, though it's definitely not bad. His SSB is also a dupe, so meh.

Vanille's BSB would be stellar - I already have Y'shtola's and Eiko's BSBs, so Vanille's would complete the "ridiculously overpowered healer BSB" trifecta.

Out of the 9 items, I personally see 1 relic that I want (Vanille BSB), 5 relics I wouldn't mind getting (Fang OSB/SSB1/SSB2, Lightning BSB2/SSB2), 1 relic I don't care about (Sazh BSB) and 2 dupes.

    I'd say it's still worth a 11-pull!

A spear is usable by Fang (naturally), Lightning, Vaan, Firion who are all candidates in my A team or at least a first pick team composition; followed by Fran, Balthier and Cid (VII). If Lightning isn't possible on my team, Vaan is very likely to be on the team or Firion is going to be spamming his BSB so the value is there for me.

The enWind SB for Fang would at least synergise with her BSB for me, even though her BSB is kinda meh, it's also an AoE Imperil Wind.
Highwind (XIII) would be my second ATK/MAG dual break and it'll also be a very welcome addition as my current one is on Cait Sith, who while not poor, finds it a little difficult to fit into the team on account of a low damage ability list. On Fang, I'll be able to bring a DPSer who can also provide layered mitigation so it'll be a valued addition to my team options. Plus it's Siphonable which makes it a stronger value proposition than Toy Soldiers.

Lightning's BSB2 is my prize because waifu hunting and Lightning is already the highest ATK party member I have on my team. It'll replace her outdated BSB1 and will give her insane meter generation due to the imperil and low cast time burst abilities. The disadvantage is that I'll also need her enLightning SSB if I'm to do an Imperil + enElement combo. It'll be nicer if the BSB2 was an enLightning because it means that I can provide the Imperil on someone else and reduce the meter requirements to have the combo running but oh well.

And as hinted, the enLightning SSB would be ideal with the BSB2 but in itself, it's at least another +10 ATK and I'll still be able to Cloud USB wombo combo as I have Fran's Imperil Lightning SSB and Lightning's Crushing Blow SSB.

Flamberge would be an interesting option. I could run Lifesiphon + Full Charge, siphoning meters then Smite -> Full Charge spam or dish out a Smite -> BSB -> Full Charge combo. Consolation prize for sure but not something I'd specifically want.

Sazh's BSB would be an option. A 30/30 with atk/def and mag/res dual breaks, which are unique dual break effects for me except for the Atk/Def which is technically owned by Vaan with Mug Bloodlust but he's open to other options. I'm not sure if it'll make Sazh a strong contender for the starting lineup, but it'll be at least an option and certainly an option for multiplayer. While I'd prefer Setzer with his Hyper Break BSB and the same dual breaks for a one-man break machine, Sazh could make a good argument if I need the additional Atk/Def break.

Vanille BSB is another one of my target prizes. Instant cast Medica with a self Mind steroid to bigger Medica command spamming. Plus an option to do damage without slotting a damage ability. I do have Y'shtola's BSB but Vanille's gives me an option in running dual healers or if I need the instant-cast medica more than what Y'shtola can bring or when she's not available (like the Torment)

Sazh's SSB is a total wash for me. It'll be a poor stat stick, and both of the SSB effects are wasted in my team builds. I have stronger Support options available and Sazh could only make the team with his dual break command BSB.

So, 8/9 relics I'd be happy to get with 7/9 being ones I'd really want which means definite pull for me, and I've got 150-200 mythril allocated with a possibility of 1 gem based pull
