Firefox and quick find annoyances.

So Firefox is starting to be an annoying bastard.
Sometimes when I'm typing, when I want to type and apostrophe, a little quick find bar appears at the bottom.
It doesn't happen consistently but it's so damn annoying when it does happen.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?
Has this happened to anyone else?

It's happened to me as well, but I don't know what causes it to come and go.

I would wager that you're just hitting forward slash by accident. That's the hotkey for "quick find". Solution: don't hit forward slash.

There is probably a way to disable quick find entirely, but I'm afraid I couldn't tell you how.

    Singlequote starts quick find also.

Actually BOTH open up and direct the cursor to Quick Find (both / and ').

But this only happens if you're not in a text field in Firefox.

OP: Honestly, I'd unplug your keyboard and plug it back in.

This happens to me a couple of times a week especially when I'm entering my email address. I usually have to reload the page or restart Firefox. It was bugging me too.

I don't know how to disable it, but quickfind via ' only searches the text of hyperlinks, while quickfind using / searches all the text on the page.

It bugs me, too. Oft times, it'll happen on one window, but not others. Like if there's a third window or something open. And it'll happen in a text field as well.

Drives me fucking crazy, and I wish they'd fix it already.

One site said to type "about:config" in the browser, search for "typeaheadfind", and change the value for "accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart" to false. I don't know if this works yet, though.

Whenever I get the apostrophe bug, I also can't use the arrow keys to move the cursor thingy in text boxes. Does this happen to anyone else?

This is one of those weird, known bugs, that isn't reproducable enough to figure out what's wrong. Here's the bug link:

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311376

but don't post anything there unless you have some new clue that will help identify why its happening.

I had no idea what triggered it either. Knowing ' searches links and / searches text is awesome.

Also, you can force the quick find bar closed by hitting ESC.
