... I've always been tempted to try this game but I dunno what it is exactly as far as games and goals go.
Minecraft with penises and slavery.
I guess depending on what Minecraft mods you use, at least probably more penises and slavery.
I have never touched Minecraft and never will.
So it's basically a build-stuff game with no traditional goals in mind like bosses (not to suggest that's bad)? Terraria, Starbound, etc?
There are world bosses and dungeons, but no quest lines AFAIK, you just explore and stumble across them.
The main gameplay loop outside of PvP server gank shenanigans is the loop of explore / gather / craft / build base / level up / research new things / repeat

If I joined a very developed server (which I assume the PA one is) would I still be able to contribute to anything significant?
As always hit me up if you need anything. The best way is probably via the Steam client (Dietary Supplement).
I am fairly sure that DurabilityMultiplier doesn't multiply the actual durability of items, but rather multiplies the durability damage they take. So increasing it from 1.00 to 1.50 has effectively decreased durability on your server.
At least, that's what I found testing on my server (by increasing/decreasing it to ridiculous numbers for easy comparison), and what the in-game tooltip says (which I think is actually contrary to what the wiki says).
Fake edit: I just did another test. With that setting at 1.0 my iron spear loses 1 durability with every hit on an enemy. At 10.0 I was losing 10 durability per hit. So yeah, you've increased durability loss for weapons by 50% with that setting.
Of course, if that's what you meant to do, ignore me!
Doh! I feel bad now. But thanks for bringing that up!
I think I’m getting the hang of this! At least in single player.
I’m interested in joining the server but I’m intimidated and also wouldn’t know what to prioritize in order to contribute. I’m barely scraping by in single player as it is.
I've added the server as a favorite in Steam, in any case. I've never actually messed with that option before though. Is there in-game voice chat?
Okay everyone, sorry I was AWOL, had a work function last night. I am going to make some config changes to the server real fast so it's going to bounce.
Also, regarding the server IP / Name: here's the thing, I'm on a home pro-sumer based ISP. I don't have a static IP, so I set up a Google dynamic DNS entry for the new domain name referenced a few posts back. If you want to direct connect via IP, to get the current IP address just open a console window and type
nslookup exiles.dongsdongsdongs.com
That should return an IP for you. I can say that my IP hasn't changed in quite some time, but doesn't mean it can't.
Your OTHER option here might be using the Steam servers browser in the Steam UI, like so:
exiles.dongsdongsdongs.com:27019 (not 7777 as I said before, sorry)
That should resolve it to an IP address, too, and you can connect that way. And it should add it to your favorites in-game, too.
no i think we wanted items to have more durability. need to change the settings to 0.750000 @DietarySupplement
(hooray for devs that don't leave notes in their code and dont remain consistent in their number scales (some need bigger numbers for longer duration, others smaller numbers is longer duration, instead of big numbers down the list)
Or even
DurabilityMultiplier=0.500000
Not a fan of durability. Can you tell? :P
I tested the day/night cycle settings so I know those work.
I need to double check the fuel burn time multiplier. Edit: Ok taken from Funcom's info: Fuel Burn Time Multiplier
Raising this increases the time fuel units burn. Lowering it decreases fuel burn time.
Tested this and increasing the multiplier makes the fuel last longer. I've got it set to FuelBurnTimeMultiplier=10.000000 in my solo game so it lasts a lot longer.

Okay, server config file updated for the durability fixes. Looking for a good window to implement that. I see some people on there right now so I'll wait and see if it gets less busy in the early AM.
Work on Castle Pixie continues, slow but steady. It's nothing compared to Lucascraft's work, but I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out so far. Pic in spoiler:

There is ingame voip.
And don’t worry about joining the server, we’re all pretty friendly. We’ve been trying to get everyone into a single clan, so we can co-operate as much as possible. Jump in, we’re happy to give you guidance and help.
Has anyone been playing on ps4? I'm curious how it runs since my computer cant run any modern games and ps4 would be my only option. I'm asking specifically about framerate/smooth gameplay or game breaking bugs. I've been playing games for almost 30 years I've not been sucked into "the trees look better on this platform, it's more shiny" but getting killed in a game like this because "oops fps dropped to 3 for 10 seconds" will drive me to insanity.
I've got it on PS4. Game runs fine. I'm enjoying the experience.
Unrelated -- Has anyone found iron in the swamp biome yet? I'm curious how they expect people to live here without iron. I've not been everywhere yet, but I have run around quite a bit looking for potential build sites. And one of my requirements for a good build site is iron access. And so far I haven't found that.

Yes, lots of Iron, but it tends to be very concentrated in a few places. Try the southern half of the zone near the big river. Have yet to find any Coal, however. I mean none, zilch, zero.

Okay so yeah, somehow I managed to download and setup AoC before realizing it wasn't CE. Because wtf my head.
Anyway I'm gonna keep an eye out for CE to be on sale. I'm not curious enough to want to spend $40.

Hey everyone, I have yet to apply the durability configuration change, but I want to couple that with some quick server downtime to add some storage as well. I'll be doing that shortly. I'll need about ~30 minutes tops to make all the changes.

Me and my partner have started a tiny tower on the right side of the map.
It's near something called "Executioner's Gate" or close enough. It might eventually end up blocking a pathway up, so hopefully that wont be an issue.
I wouldn't worry too much about blocking paths except the major ones that connect the various biomes. I think I saw your base yesterday and it shouldn't be an issue but may check again.

Hey everyone, my upgrades to the virtual host are done (good sale at MicroCenter so I upped my storage) and I have restarted the server with the new durability configs. Everything should be online and ready to go. Sorry for the delays and thanks for your patience.
So I’ll be away for probably most of next week, but I’ve managed to upgrade my (Evidar) base to tier 2 on the outer walls, so it should be relatively purge safe. Try and make brick and the tier 2 wood a priority so I can do the rest when I can. If anyone gets the chance if you can bump the elevator towers base to tier 2 that would be great. Feel free to add to the base, I know a few people are using it. If you want to add rooms, expand on a section, add more towers to the elevator network, go right ahead.

I did end up finding a bit of iron. You weren't kidding. It really is all concentrated in just a couple places. I found a place up north, on the cliffs overlooking the new pirate ship. It had probably as many as 15-20 iron nodes in one place.
I finished the basic construction of Castle Pixie. Woo! Oh god, so much rock-mining... /shudder
I still need to decorate/furnish most of it, and populate it with thralls, but at least it's a home now. All my crafting stuff is in the main hall (the big square building). And my bedroom is on the top floor of the central tower. There's 3 floors with lots of space because of the external staircase. Everything else is just waiting to be filled with... stuff.
Tip: If you pick up a table without removing everything on it first it will delete the items placed on it. Be very careful when rearranging items that you don't pick up the table by mistake. :?

There's another bunch of them SE of the Xel-Ha Docks. That's where I'd build my base, once I'm done here in the Highlands.

Found those last night too while searching for the Derketo sex temple. Found both the temple and the iron. It was a successful adventure.
Have any of y'all tried the Dregs yet with the new combat system? How is it? My buddy and I are planning on going in there tomorrow night. We're about level 25 right now.
Also, we found the new swamp dungeon last night by accident. Zoned in before we realized it was a dungeon. But we just turned around and left because we were in no state at the time to be dungeoning. Our gear was mostly broken, we didn't have any potions or ambrosia, and we just weren't equipped for a dungeon.
Has anyone tried the dungeons in the highlands? The Black Keep or the Mounds of the Dead one?
The base I've been working on. I know it's not visually very impressive. There are no grand towers and I didn't have to scale a 1000 foot cliff to make it. :P
It's located near that upper most arrow. There's a sloping tunnel there that connects the river where it loops around.
Front door on the upper, western entrance.
Back door on the lower, eastern entrance.
Interior. There's a hole in the roof of the cave. Pretty handy chimney so I added another lift that goes up to the top of that and plugged the hole by building a pyramid over it. I might eventually add a walled courtyard so I can place a large wheel of pain and maybe build a farm there.
