There are so many cool places to build a base it's hard to pick a spot sometimes. I picked my spot because 1) I'm a dwarf at heart. I'd build the Mines of Moria or the Kingdom of Erebor if I could and 2) half the work was done for me with those cave walls.
I was poking around the net with an image search last night and people have made some amazing structures in this game.
Have any of y'all tried the Dregs yet with the new combat system? How is it? My buddy and I are planning on going in there tomorrow night. We're about level 25 right now.
Also, we found the new swamp dungeon last night by accident. Zoned in before we realized it was a dungeon. But we just turned around and left because we were in no state at the time to be dungeoning. Our gear was mostly broken, we didn't have any potions or ambrosia, and we just weren't equipped for a dungeon.
Has anyone tried the dungeons in the highlands? The Black Keep or the Mounds of the Dead one?
Actually we did the Dregs last night and it went...mostly good? The dungeon itself is fine but when we got to the boss it was...misbehaving. Basically it would appear differently for each character and the animations would lag out at times. We ended up beating it, but it was certainly strange seeing my clanmates attacking empty air only for me to do the same in turn.
Ok. I've... skimmed... through the list of workshop mods available and without diving deep into the mod rabbit hole or general degeneracy that this game has with creative people with lots of spare time. I've got 3 mods I'd like to put forth for everyone on Dietary's server.
I really wish I could put out a poll on a post, but that's only reserved for the Thread OP. Also, I'm fucking incompetent with google docs for making a poll with spreadsheets. I'd like to know what you guys think about these three, if you'd like to try them, or the forth option of no mods, just keep it vanilla.
Wood Chips - Don't smoke with Bark https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1373805768
The breakdown of this mod is that you can convert wood into branches and then branches into wood chips (bark) instead of just farming trees and rocks with a pickaxe.
There's different efficiencies between doing it by hand and choosing one or two workstations to do the work.
Armor Weight -50%/ Durability +50% (FullReleaseReady) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1380468407
As the name implies armor weight is dropped quite a bit and durability is increased for armors by that amount.
Even at medium armor, your sitting at about 50% encumbrance and that means so many more trips back to camp with your farmed mats.
and finally WYSIWYG Wheel of Pain (1.0 compatible) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=897947497
What You See Is What You Get Pain Wheels. The thrall interns that are currently in training are the ones that show up pumping around the grind wheel instead of that poor old dude 24/7.
Vote in Bold Green with the name of the Mod if you want to add a specific mod added to the server Vote in Bold Red if you want nothing to do with that particular mod Vote Blue if you just want the whole thing to remain vanilla, sit down Ben.
if players are really keen with mods and want to add others, I'd suggest we hold off on voting all together, get an aggregated list put together by this Friday, May 18 and then do a vote on the one list rather than having 15 different votes going on at the same time.
If we decide to use mods, how do we make sure we are compliant to join the server?
Dietary would add the mods to the server via the instructions in the video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8mlm1xifDw
Each player would need to subscribe to the mod in the workshop
Run Conan Exiles
Goto mods
Move only those mods accepted on the server to the middle enabled column
Restart Conan Exiles

Hrm...maybe they are more trouble than they're worth then. Plus I don't want to make a lot of extra work for DietarySupplement.
Bark is a really weird bottle neck. Even with a steel pickaxe I'm only getting as much as an iron pick and it's not consistent at all for how important a resource it is.
As for armor, yeah it's hard to get away from the basic light armor if you want to do much of anything. I guess it's a gameplay/pvp thing that it makes sense that heavier armor will slow you down, but I just have these fancy armors that there isn't much point to using in my day-to-day activities.
Wheel of pain is a nice cosmetic thing is all, it's weird to see some random dude on the wheel so I think it's nice.
Drag thralls through water is a huge boon which you use to be able to do and I have no complaints about now. I mean we already drag their hilarious rag dolls over all sorts of stuff, it's weird that you lose them if you go through any swimmable water.
Tool durability multiplier not working on the server setting is frankly baffling. The weapons having higher durability is making a world of difference for me as an adventurer, but would be much more useful for tools.

ok then. to keep the voting sane, I'll aggregate a list of mods thursday night so that we have all day friday to vote. (might be useful to know how many we got on the server. 9 was the highest i heard at one point over the weekend)
the major part of this whole voting thing is so that we can keep it sane and minimal work on Dietary's end since he's basically doing it all out of the kindness of his robotic heart.
I want to thank @DietarySupplement for putting up with us, regardless.
addendum* I also want to get a technical sheet put together so that someone that does want to join our server has a set step-by-step guide for getting into the server without pestering Dietary at all.
they can pester us, that's fine, but I don't want this to be any work on Diet's end.

I've been wondering if the issues with armor encumbrance or gathering would be mitigated later by leveling up. The encumbrance attribute lets you carry more and the agility one hints at making armor easier to use and I've been wondering if gathering tools keep following the same curve in increased effectiveness. But yeah I've gone back to using light armor instead of the medium armor I crafted because of the encumbrance issue.
Not being able to drag thralls through water is a problem and tools not working off the same durability multiplier as everything else is indeed baffling. Some of the levels at which things unlock suggests they didn't consider it a problem because long term it would negated by established, active clans. I'm kind of salty about the certain issues with their building system too. It could definitely use more work.
Given I've focused more on strength and combat stats than encumbrance, any armor other than light with its bonus encumbrance starts taking a pretty heavy toll immediately. There are some light armors like the Dafari I need to check out again but even the medium armor with bonus encumbrance is hefty. Agility just makes you more nimble in your armor, maybe improving your armor stats a bit as well. Strength can have a sizable impact, especially with the +25% damage under status effects if you use something like the axe since you can instantly sunder enemies. *Shrug* It may just be to help reinforce the uniqueness of your character though thankfully yellow lotus potions are easy enough to make in order to respec.
Edit: For the record I'm level 48? and decided to craft myself some snazzy heavy armor and oh god my encumbrance.
Drag thralls through water is a huge boon which you use to be able to do and I have no complaints about now. I mean we already drag their hilarious rag dolls over all sorts of stuff, it's weird that you lose them if you go through any swimmable water.
I assume they drown?
You just lose the tether because swimming puts the rope away, it did not use to do that.
It's really weird that bark is still this hard to get. That's been a flaw in the game since the earliest beta. At least you can generally get it from raiding bases.
You're not supposed to use the heavier armors in your day-to-day activities. You're supposed to slap that on when you plan to go raiding or dungeon-delving or something. If you're out resource-gathering, you want light armor, maybe medium if you're going into dangerous territory. The game is trying to make you plan ahead for what you want to do. I keep a variety of armors stored and switch out to suit my purposes. Encumbrance has not been an issue.

It’s even worse because they added extra uses for it.
It’s frankly baffling they didn’t add the ability to break down branches into bark at the woodworking table, considering there’s like 10 ways to convert stuff to hides now.

This is historically accurate; heavy armor was usually only worn by the nobility because they were the only ones who could afford to build and maintain the stuff, and then it was reserved for battle or ceremonial occasions because of its encumbrance. Your average warrior during the Dark Ages went into battle with a shield and maybe a helmet. A great many cultures embraced manliness so strongly that charging at the enemy while butt naked was considered a fine display of courage.

Also note that the Encumbrance system is quite buggy and will not always reflect the weight of a lighter armor set when you put it on. This happened to me last nite when the game accumulated three different armors into one total, making me completely immobile. A restart usually clears this up.

Also, I made the Hyberborean Slaver armor set last nite, and you've got to love Funcom's sense of humor. I look like I just stepped out of a home-made bondage movie.
I was about to make that, thanks for saving me the hassle!
I want an outfit entirely made of barbarian style furs. Also @Karoz have you tried using those armorsmithing kits that reduce the weight of armor? Are they any good, or a waste of points?
I was home yesterday, took the day off, and the Highlands Lodge is now huge. I have big plans for this area. Also we've got a really decent bunch of thralls up there now. About a dozen or more. With a few more cooking on the wheels. If the Purge hits there, I think we'll be well prepared.

New patch this morning:
Patch Notes for Live (15.05.2018)
Conan Exiles - Community Manager (Nicole V)
Hey all! Thank you so much for your continued feedback and reports. We will continue to roll out patch for all platforms to improve the game. Fixes include:
Redshell plugin removed
Server browser: PvP-F now shows as PvE-C
Fixed a crash in character creation
Fixed a problem where health went back to max after taking damage
Fixed auto-lock and dodging sometimes happening on the spot
Blunted Javelin no longer does concussion damage in melee (only throwing)
Elixirs and some other buffs no longer get cancelled as if they were healing buffs
Fixed a crash caused by lootbags
Fixed a crash that could happen when building near destroyed placeables
Fixed a crash in the decay system
In addition, South American servers #1976, #1986, #1996 have been moved to a new data center with better hardware successfully and are back up.
IMPORTANT:
This is a message for everyone who has had issues with their servers having really long loading times and respawns taking several minutes. This is especially an issue for servers running on machines without an SSD.
We have discovered an issue with the unconscious bodies that are loaded on a server restart. It is causing heavy load on the game database.
If you are having these issues, we suggest you turn off the unconscious bodies by adding the following to your servers ServerSettings.ini
LogoutCharactersRemainInTheWorld=False
We will be turning this off for all our official servers until a patch with a fix is ready. At which point we will remind you to turn it back on.
I've been making wall palisades to line my base with. Hopefully it will keep mobs from tearing down my walls when the Purge happens or at least make it harder on 'em but holy crap do those things use up a ton of branches to make.
As much fun as I have watching Moth and Pixie sleep in game while they are away IRL, we should probably have that logout characters thing flipped false.

Not that I really care that much, but, why? I though that was kinda a fun feature. Folks just need to remember to get back to a room and not just log out anywhere.

I think i'm just too picky.
Open area, no tall structures or mountains around to attack over the walls from, close to resources...
Couple mountain tops near the stone "ship", but kinda annoyingly far from snake town.
I was poking around the net with an image search last night and people have made some amazing structures in this game.
Fer example....
Actually we did the Dregs last night and it went...mostly good? The dungeon itself is fine but when we got to the boss it was...misbehaving. Basically it would appear differently for each character and the animations would lag out at times. Seeds + compost, things will grow automatically.
You make compost in the compost pile with rotten meat, bonemeal, and plant fibers.
You've got my vote.
I'd also suggest:
Drag Thralls through Water:

Tool Durability Multiplier Fix. Apparently that setting doesn't normally apply to tools for whatever reason.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1383473025&searchtext=
Suggestions for server settings:
Change the Durability Multiplier
DurabilityMultiplier=0.250000
Also consider changing it so our characters disappear when we log out.
