Iron Man 3's only real failing, for me, is that Iron Man had to continue to be in Marvel movies.
You know what?
Yeah, I agree with this.
I'd like him to show up in a supporting role from time to time, but having him step off the field and make Rhodey the main Iron Man would've been a nice continuation of IM3.

As for Doctor Strange. I dunno. It was kinda there and did it's job. I'd put it above Thor 2 for sure. But it would still be on the lower end of Marvel movies.
It definitely showed their use of humor as a crutch more than an asset though.

I can't argue that IM3 wouldn't have been a fitting end but I find Tony's progression after IM3 to be very compelling. Tony's failure to successfully rid himself of all his ptsd demons has been really interesting.

I just don't think Benedict Cumberbatch can do funny. I never find him funny at all.
so logan was fucking perfect, in case anyone was on the fence
I almost got to see it yesterday. Family is going out of town next Thursday so I may go to a movie after work. I'll probably see Get Out instead though.

Bakshi is weird in so much that I don't like (and hate some) a lot of his work, but I am fascinated in the process and sort of gonzo stuff going on enough to watch most of it. I would call it a problematic fav and what not, but I think that requires the favorite part.

Really he came in at a time when animation was changing in both form and audience.
Just no one knew what they wanted or how to handle it?

Yeah there is a wild anarchy to a lot of it that I find appealing on the style front. Lots of clashing rendering styles and textures. The subject matter just can be quite the opposite for me. Same problems with a lot of the the 60s underground comics scene really.
Why was it relevant that Dr. Strange had to be American? Couldn't he have been British? Because the "Queen's British" is very posh, but also sounds arrogant, which would've suited the character well...

he's just this fucking guy
and the only tolerable part of ren and stimpy's adult party cartoon
there's an episode, fire dogs 2, where bashki basically plays himself
like, he's the fire chief, but all the shit he does and says is based on actual interactions he had with john k
it's AMAZING viewed through that lens

Oh man. I need to check this out. Mostly because I have to imagine a conversation between John K and Bakshi to be the most meanly worded self important statements to come from this world.

I think I was 8 when I saw it but I remember the Well this was a bad idea from my mother as she said it probably was not something we should have watched at that age
But this was a year or so after the Fire and Ice movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if4WhCzQzyU
So you think he's made nothing that's actually "good"?
Ehhhhh
I'M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!!!

I enjoyed it. My reaction was "far from the most entertaining MCU film, but certainly the most interesting."
Something about the cosmic stuff works on a deep level for me that I didn't know was there. I never cared for that branch of the comics, but I dig the hell out of it in the films.
The Asylum gave us Z Nation, my favorite zombie-related thing of the decade, so I'm willing to give them a pass for everything until Sharknado vs Jason inevitably happens
funnily enough I thought that (dr strange spoilers)
the ending "fight" with Dromaru is a much better example of a magic duel. It's about intelligently using the tools at your disposal to resolve an argument. It doesn't have a whole lot of back and forth, I guess, but it was still an imaginative use of magic.

My favourite thing about Dr Strange, and part of what makes it a bit more special for me:
The final fight with Dormammu wasn't just unusual in the MCU, but it was also the one that I felt fit his character best. I mean, pre-accident Strange turns down cases that he views are no-win scenarios, because he values his reputation. More than his passion for a challenge, he's driven by others seeing him meet the challenge and triumph. There's nothing altruistic about his motives; he doesn't take difficult cases because no one else will help, he takes them because then he can say he took them and won.
Juxtapose that with the fight against Dormammu and you have an scenario that I totally respect. Not only is Strange saving the world in a super clever fashion, he's doing it in a way that obscures the rest of the world from ever knowing he did it. There are no witnesses apart from himself and Dormammu. The world would go on and folks be all like hey where did Strange go", and not only will folks never know he saved the world, they'll never know he saved it via a super intense form of self-sacrifice. Not just dying, but dying REPEATEDLY, FOREVER, over and over again. Maybe he goes in knowing that Dormammu will eventually accept his bargain, but he does go in locking himself into that cycle without so much as a word to anyone else about what he's intending to do or why.
I really like thinking about the final fight that way.

The thing I never liked about Bakshi's stuff is the weird Rotoscoping that basically everything uses.
The movements end up having this weird uncanny valley effect to them.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
So you think he's made nothing that's actually "good"?
Ehhhhh
I think he has a genuine passion for the form, he's willing to do whatever it takes to get his ideas on the screen and even has some interesting ideas from time to time, but I don't think I've seen a single film of his that I thought was actually good.

Just saw john Wick 2 and that was an awesome fucking movie. Plus the ending practically guaranteed a 3rd film. Glad I caught it before it left theaters.
It's leaving and well I am upset I will miss it unless I see it at the last showing times they are showing it
John Wick 2 is definitely worth watching in theater. Do not miss it on big screen.

Wait.
What?
No way. His story executions were always lacking but the dude always seemed driven by a genuine passion for the craft and a love of animation.
Asylum Films are nothing but some cynical executives producing look-alike schlock on a shoestring budget because they know they can turn a quick buck.
