[MST3K] We got movie sign...on November 22, 2018

Also there are a handful of throwback jokes to really old eps, and that's delightful
Those limbs are way less disturbing.
I just started episode 4:
Steam
Servo: You can't, we've tried that.
Crow: Yeah, we're made out of those special parts.
i need every episode of this to have a carvel ice cream cake joke

I can catch the broad ones of the old episodes, but there's a lot of the more obscure references and gags that totally whiff for me.
For instance a version of the joke in episode 2:
but
I've watched 2 episodes now and they got the right things right. Jonah and the Bots don't really have established personalities yet, and I don't care about them the way I cared about Joel or Mike or the original bots.. but it's been 2 episodes.
The format is so fucking good that even without that stuff it feels like coming home. And they get the little things right - The first "WE GOT MOVIE SIGN" made me smile reflexively and I got excited as I realized PUSH THE BUTTON was coming.
The new Love theme is also quite good - a perfect mix of old and new.

Okay this is the full video which ain't kosher. It's the scene from the end of Warrior of the Lost World with, like, 30 celebrity references in one.
Is this a one time bit for the premiere or are these going to continue
I know that was Joel's thing so, that's cool and all that he included it in the old show, but here it just seems like they're doing it because the old one did
Whatever, it's easy to skip I guess
The one in the 2nd episode is genuinely very good
If they can throttle the goof ratio back a bit it could probably stand out amongst the series' history as some of the best (though I might say a couple s11 episodes are already in that conversation)
The issue with the pace of the jokes is it dosen't allow for them to react to each other very much. It's not that it never happens but too much of the time it feels like they are just racing eachother to get another joke out.
They've said in interviews that they deliberately wanted to avoid dead time that would happen in some older episodes, but I hope they reconsider because without that we don't get moments like this.

It isnt too many jokes that is the problem. There are seriously periods of time where the cast is almost tripping over themselves to get a line out as fast as possible because the cue for the next riff is coming. And there will be like 5 minute long strectches where they're nearly breathless from firing off riffs back to back as quick as they can.
For the most part the movies get room to breathe, but most episodes so far have had at least a couple of these periods and they really are quite jarring and not particularly funny.
Just space out the jokes in the writing.
i am very glad i did this
this movie is perfect mst3k fuel
Yeah, and I'm pretty sure a significant part of their process (if not the whole thing, I don't actually know if they're live riffing when they film the silhouettes) is ADR, so they can cram in even more riffs after the fact
They cram them in so tight that numerous times now, I've noticed that they've had to start saying the joke even before I've had time to process the image on screen that they're joking about, and before I've had time to process how funny that joke was, they're telling another one
I mean, even Airplane had a more deliberate pace

See, in the case of the Flophouse, it's clearly live, off the dome, improv stuff, and that's way less grating to me? Because it might be a mile-a-minute, but there's humans reacting to him and him reacting to himself, so it feels natural
The stuff in this new season doesn't work the same way
And I'm sounding way down on it, but I genuinely like the show! I think a lot of the host segments are powerfully lame, but the show is still as funny and charming as its ever been
It's just not reaching the highs that I know it's capable of

So you're saying every country has a monster?
I very much disagree
I have no idea what I was supposed to get out of that
I like the one from episode 4!
The numbers sequence is just annoying and I feel as though it seems like an artifact of the show being designed for regular tv.
the songs are nice.
The two robots' voices are pretty indistinguishable I find.
I think it's a decent show. I'm not super hooked into it, but I think I'll keep watching while exercising.
starcrash may be one of my favorite episodes of the whole series?
No but all monster films are b-movies
Steam
Starcrash is so atrociously bad at everything
