Plans on the Expo Floor?

robirexrobirex BostonRegistered User regular
Hey all,

I didn't see anything specifically related to this so I thought a new thread was in order, but if someone thinks we should talk about this in an existing thread let me know.

What are everyone's plans on the expo floor? Thoughts of what devs and exhibitors will be showing off? Last year was my first and I was in a state of perpetual daze and usually just followed the crowd until I found something I liked and peeled myself away. It seems like a lot of people have an idea of what certain companies will be showing and I'm still totally clueless. I notice things missing like UbiSoft and others, but I'm not totally sure what companies are working on to settle on a conclusion of what they would show off. So, I'm kinda interested in what people on the forum think.

I know Supergiant (Bastion and Transistor) last year unveiled Pyre and I had no clue what to do so I saw Pyre and wanted to play so I pulled myself away from everyone running deeper onto to the floor and got a chance to play almost immediately on Friday. They are there again this year so I am betting they have Pyre again. Maybe a release date?

Sega isn't around this year to show off Creative Assembly's Total War: Warhammer, but it does allow Nintendo much bigger space to show off the Switch and Zelda.

Blizzard will almost definitely be showing off Overwatch. A lot of new hero information coming up. Are they getting ready to announce something at PAX?

Gigabyte has a large presence this year and I nearly missed them when checking out last year's map. Could they be revealing the 1080ti for Nvidia?

I don't know much, but hopefully that's enough to get a discussion going. Anything you are looking forward to seeing? Maybe an Elder Scrolls 6 from Bethesda? Lawl

Let's get the hype train rolling full steam ahead guys! 12 DAYS!

This is only my 2nd Pax but I plan on hitting Square Enix booth (FFVII demo?) , and I don't really know what else to expect, so I'll just find all the Pins. Going to talk to the booth people more this year, my first year (2013) I tried to hit everything and didn't spend much time getting to know people, this year I want to take my time and really take in the community.

OH right! I would definitely need to check out a FFVII demo if they have one. Last year I went to far more panels than I want to this year. I basically want to spend all of my time on the floor or in Tabletop this year. Although I am curious if there will be any considerable changes to Tabletop with the PAX Unplugged announcement. Maybe we could hear more about that?

Unfortunately no. With the full game admittedly "a long ways away" and the history of not bringing a major AAA demo to PAX before E3, I sincerely doubt FF7 will be payable. More likely to be featured would be recent releases (Hitman Complete, Kingdom Hearts HD Complete, Dragon Quest VIII) and possibly Switch ports for I Am Setsuna and DQ Heroes. And of course the customary FFXIV Challenge and preview of the upcoming expansion, Stormblood. SE does have ownership in Crystal Dynamics, as well. So we may get ongoing teasers of the Avengers game in development.

The only developer who could potentially bring something major to the table we haven't seen before is Gearbox, who have promised surprises and reveals during their panel and some speculate (hope) it's Borderlands 3. But again, despite their affinity for PAX East to announce such a title here vs during a Microsoft or Sony E3 conference would be vastly different from the norm. So the more likely scenario, to the chagrin of many I'm sure, would be new content for Battleborn.

Blizzard will be 85% Overwatch, 15% Hearthstone. Unless they plan on announcing a WoW expansion in the next 12 days, I don't think it'll be anywhere at the show. Overwatch is their media darling right now. Expect it to be center stage (literally).

Bethesda will have Prey demos most likely, since Doom had a strong presence last year and was also a May release. The newly announced Morrowind expansion will also be there, and may even be playable. Plus it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they snuck in a couple Xbox Ones running Fallout Shelter, although that is a really hard title to demo.

Sony will have Horizon demos up the butt, but outside of that I'm not quite sure besides Nioh and Gravity Rush for those who may have overlooked two great titles. I expect a decent Indie presence at their booth, and maybe another go around with PSVR demos with more prominent titles (Batman, Star Wars). But unfortunately Sony has this nasty habit of unveiling titles 3-4 years out that people think are coming out this year. So many will go into PAX expecting God of War and Spider-Man, but alas that will not be the case. Although, a closed doors in-person demo of GoW is not entirely farfetched. But we also have to remember that this is only the second year Sony has attended PAX East. So they don't exactly have a "standard" yet.

Microsoft will be mostly Halo Wars 2 and a lot of indies. The PAX before a system transition is always awkward for companies. Just imagine if the Switch wasn't coming out until Christmas....

Speaking of Nintendo, they're the only company we already know their booth inside and out from South and recent press events. LOTS of Zelda. Splatoon 2, Mario Kart, 1-2-Switch, Arms, Snipperclips, and some third party demos. Has-been Heroes I suspect will be at GameStop's booth. Really hope they have Sonic Mania since Sega won't be attending. There won't be another opportunity to demo it before release, so this is it. And before anyone asks, Nintendo has already confirmed Super Mario Odyssey will not be playable until E3.

Keep an eye on Starbreeze Studios. While Payday 3 isn't coming any time soon, they are publishing Psychonauts 2. And a certain creator of Psychonauts has been known to visit PAX East on a frequent basis.

Outside of all this, I sense the independent scene will be ridiculous this year. Can't wait!

@MephistoN7 bravo! Thanks, that was the exact kind of information I was looking for.

Any particular indie or tabletop dev catching anyone's eyes? Any speculation on what other devs might bring?

Prey is really interesting to me. I loved the spot at E3 last year and I was actually just talking to someone about it the other day. I'm super excited about getting my hands on Horizon in a couple days. No idea if there will be anything at Sony that will interest me though. PSVR is always cool so I could check it out. The RSVP system that they had seemed to work out really well. Maybe others will take the same approach?

    The hype has taken me.

I'm really looking forward to the Nintendo booth. I still don't know if I'll be able to get a Switch day 1, but I really want to try it, especially the MK8 Switch version. As for other stuff, I'm hoping Prey will be there. Even though it's already out, I'd love to get a chance to try the PSVR version of RE7. And I hope there will finally be something that could be considered a killer app for PC vr (Vive and Oculus).

IGN apparently confirmed in their Unlocked podcast that Prey demos will be at PAX East. So definitely look forward to that!

I've mentioned in other posts on this forum, but even with a Switch preordered and in hand at the show I still fully intend to hit up Nintendo's booth to try out other games like Arms and Splatoon 2. But plan on that booth being a madhouse. For many many people, this is their first demo of the system. Expect lines.

The hype train has left the station, folks. All aboard for Boston!

There are a few things on the Expo floor that I want to check out, but I'm waiting to make plans until after they release the information on this show's pins. Knowing which ones I want will be available for purchase vs. which ones I want will require playing a demo will determine my Expo floor plans again this year.

ooo a pin junkie. I feel like I could get into it, but the cost would be a atrocious. How do you find out where pins will be located?

Also, Mike or Jerry usually post an update on the main PA page sometime before a PAX show with a pin quest guide. The guide will say which pins are available for purchase, like the show-specific pins sold at the PA merch booths or the Doom and Fallout 4 pins that Bethesda had for sale at their booth last year; which pins are available for trade, like the PA staff pins; and which pins are available for doing something or attending something, like the pin for playing the Overwatch demo a couple years ago (and the coveted Play of the Game pin for the same), or the Leroy Jenkins pin for finding the Blizzard rep roaming the floor and giving your best "LEEEEROOOOY JEEEEEENNNKIIINNNSSS!!!" shout, which I think was 2014.

Which is why I'm waiting to make Expo floor plans. It all depends on what new pins are announced, how popular they might be, and what I need to do to get them.

My annual shirt from FFXIV, possibly a yoshi photo if he's lurking again.

Other than that, wandering around looking to empty my wallet between the vendors there and TT as well as trying to not lose my GF to the crowds.

Thankfully I've gotten out of pins, heck, looking at the cost of some of my early ones, its tempting to use it to fund a pax one year (my aus set could pretty much pay for a hotel room)...

I'm guessing it'll be Zurvan this year. I have my Shiva and Seph shirts. Looking to continue the collection as well this year.

The Overwatch team won't be at PAX East for what it's worth. Doesn't rule out some sort of Blizz presence for the con.

As crazy as it sounds, it wouldn't shock me if the actual dev team isn't there. Nothing like releasing teases about teases about teasers for a potential maybe new hero in your popular game just to go to a convention and get berated for 3 days with "WHERE'S DOOMFIST?? IT'S DOOMFIST RIGHT??!!!! WHAT'S THE HOLD UP? CAN I HAS DOOMFIST NOW??!!!".

But Blizzard DOES have an ominously shaped booth front and center of the show that screams "multiplayer tournament". So unless they go all-in on that Hearthstone tourney they're hosting at PAX East, I've got nothing.

Or Blizzard says "Screw it" and lets Activision hold an IW tournament. Whomp whomp.

    (Yeah right.)

Why not just snag one after the panel? Two years ago, they had a brief sign/photo session. But last year, he chilled outside the panel for a good hour visiting fans.

    Plus, Stormblood swag.

Yeah I stand corrected, the Tweet in question was from Jeff. So I guess it's just OW. I did find a play HOTS and get a WOW mount ad for PAX EAST so clearly they will be there.

This will be my umm... I lost count. I have been to every East if that matters.

Normally we just walk up and we the aisles the first day. Kind of getting a feel for what's on the floor and what will be good to check out the next couple of days. While we do stop and play some, it's never for very long.

A lot of the AAA titles aren't worth waiting in a 3+ hour line for. The Indie games are usually a quick wait and tend to get a better experience. Looking forward to the Ausie Road Show as well as a few titles I know that are going to be on the floor.

As for announcements, East really isn't the place for that... just yet. Their are some things that might get announced like Overwatch'so new character. Yet, with some rather large, industry cons and expos around the corner (GDC and E3), bigger announcements are made their. Specially when a company is spending thousands on a booth.

If you've been to the convention before, it's roughly going to be the same. You won't see FFVII, but you might get a demo of XII or anything else that will be released in the next few months or just came out.

Blizzard is ramping up their hype for the new Hearthstone expansion right now. So I am curious if they will be showing off some of the new cards at their booth possibly. Bioware usually has a mini schedule posted outside the Bioware base for mini presentations they do there which I will be watching for Mass Effect content.

They've also been dropping new hero hints left and right. Althought I'm guessing where just going to get a big hint since there's no panel and Jeff said no OW team at East. As for Mass Effect...well of course I'm there. And as a huge FFXII fan I'm hoping to demo to the remaster.

As for the primal challenge I'm expecting Zurvan myself, but if they are super lazy they might do Proto Ultima seeing as they had it at fanfest. Either way I'm ready and stopping by the SE booth will be my first priority on the floor. I need to fill the box with Questions for the panel!

Not sure if they'll have it this year but last year there was a bit VR thing at the back. Oculus, Rift etc. A great way to sample VR

Rick and MOrty VR will be on display at PAX East. Though expect LONG LINES for that one....

Also Friday The 13th game looks like they'll be showing something off at PAX East. They sent out press requests for interviews so might be worth checking out as well.
