I went a little nuts adding funds, and have around $80 left after getting what I initially wanted. Now to see if I can be strong and save it until Mario Kart comes out, or just say fuck it and get Shovel Knight and that racing game.
Picked up my Switch at midnight last night, took a bit to get through the Best Buy line but got the thing home and jumped right into Zelda. I've maybe put an hour and a half into the thing since I did need SOME sleep, but I'm still feeling pretty amazed by the whole experience.
Also, Zelda looks pretty damn good. I knew it'd look good, but somehow all the media I've consumed (and I've consumed A LOT) still didn't prepare me.
Were you as awed as I was when you get to the first part when the world opens up in front of you?
I don't know what it was, but it just blew me away. I think because it looked SO much more vast than I expected, and knowing I could get to ANYthing I saw. It really felt like an actual world, without boundaries or invisible walls or limitations on how far I could see based on game code.
So. Sexy.
Also, how dumb is it that I want to get Shovel Knight and Stardew (whenever it's out) despite already owning both on Steam?
Is the futuristic racing game crazy fast/difficult? I was thinking it looked like a fun Wipeout type of game, but clips of it in action look super hard.

I love how absolutely quick the update was and how easy it was to set up.
It's still almost feels unreal that I have this thing in my hands.
Switch get got! I did not receive my copy of zelda however. Guess i just go digital and return the cartridge when it arrives... One question: how do you actually power off/reboot the device? I can only seem to get power save shut down options from the power button.

Walked into a target and got one with Zelda. Time to grind work so I can get home and turn this thing on.

Doing the same thing - I own Shovel Knight on the 3DS and my son and I both have Steam copies of Stardew, but we'll be rebuying both of them at some point. Also Duck Game and Towerfall because they seem far better suited to the Switch then trying to gather around my PC.

I think I'm going to buy both on the Switch as well. Along with Gungeon.

I wish I had local gaming friends. All my buddies are gym folks who aren't into that stuff. So many cool couch coop games I want to play that I don't get to because of this. I think I would LOVE that weirdo coop cooking game, but alas, no one to play local with.
And I've always wanted to play Towerfall but haven't since it has no online multi (last I checked, anyway).
I cancelled a download so that another download would start. But now I can't find where to restart downloading the game I cancelled. Anybody know how to do this?
I didn't know Gungeon was coming, but I will be re-buying that for sure. My kid loves to watch it, and it would make a great game to play on the go. They better add mid-run saves though, because having to put aside an hour incase you do well during a run doesn't fit well with on the go gaming.
I'm confused about the two Shovel Knight options in the Switch e-store. Is Specter of Torment included in the Treasure Trove version, or is Specter a separate thing? If the latter, which do I buy first if I've never tried the series?
I cancelled a download so that another download would start. But now I can't find where to restart downloading the game I cancelled. Anybody know how to do this?

That was patched into the Steam version recently so I'd have to assume it will have it.

Spectre is just the latest dlc as a stand-alone game.
The game is really great, so I would recommend to just go for treasure trove.

Treasure Trove is all 3 campaigns, and the new one that hasn't come out yet.
I bought Treasure Trove since I figured I would enjoy it and it contains all the stuff. It was pretty fun before I crippled my left arm.

I didn't know that, nice! Really looking forward to getting it on the switch now!
And nobody knows how to restart a download of a game you cancelled?!

I cancelled my Amazon order because really, I can wait.
But I think I'll drive by target and best buy on the way home, just, like, to see if they're selling anything interesting and new. Maybe a throw rug or something. That's the ticket.

I just noticed it 2 days ago or so when I played. It happens at the start of each level, by the bullet drill thingie.

I was a video game player like you until I played the switch for 30 minutes and ruined my left hand.

I was going to say "maybe the pro controller is the way to go for you" but I guess that is still a bummer for when you want to take it on the go.
oddly, they had already sold out of games .... but not the system itself
Had a bunch of people in line last night who were all, "I'm getting the system here, I have the pro-controller ordered at Gamestop, and my games at [some other location]." Might be because of peeps like that. I saw several people in line get everything EXCEPT a system at checkout.
This was the case with my line too, almost everyone in the pre-order line mentioned this while we were waiting for midnight to hit.

Yea, I bought a Pro controller for when I used it on the TV and it feels nice. But the entire reason I was so excited for the switch was as a powerful handheld. I love handhelds
As much of a PlayStation trophy whore as I am, and thus, as much as I've put off trying certain games on PC because I'd rather trophy hunt while playing them... I can see myself finally playing Shovel Knight, Enter the Gungeon, Stardew Valley, Tumbleseed, and maybe Oceanhorn on the Switch. And I could see myself getting back into Darkest Dungeon, if it made the jump. And give me a Switch Mini Metro, too.
Not really surprised that once again royal mail have failed to uphold a next day delivery item. So much of the stuff I buy online comes from private couriers these days I'd forgotten how bad RM are.

Yea, that's a bummer, man. Hope you figure out a solution for the problem!
Heh it hurts way way too much to play through. I don't know, maybe this is just the inevitable carpal tunnel setting in. Yikes.
Just weird that the 3ds would be totally fine because if you put a joy con on top of the 3ds you can barely tell the difference.
it could also be a combination of your arms are further apart than the 3ds and it being slightly heavier. it this with the joycons on the tablet, in the grip, or just holding the joycons on their own?
Kinda any configuration. In the tablet or on their own is worse than in the grip, but I can still feel it happening in the grip.
The 30 minutes of shovel knight I played 7 hours ago is still causing pretty significant soreness even though I haven't touched it since.
It's weird, when I play in any other position it's fine but when I play lying in bed my arms/wrists/hands get sore, to the point where I have to rest it on my stomach as I play.
One thing that elevates the Switch above the other two for me is, what looks to be, vastly superior RPGs. Dragon Warrior, SMT exclusive, Monster Hunter, Xenogames, Fire Emblem etc

Xeno is what was going to break me on getting a Switch eventually. I just decided to get one now since the price will probably still be the same when it comes out. And I do love getting in on the fun of a fresh console launch.
I'm yearning to see a Monster Hunter on here.
Almost my lunchtime. I'm afraid to actually press the start button on Zelda cause its going to be damn hard to stop when lunch is over and I have to get back to work.

Here's the view from my spot in line last night, after they started letting people in 10 at a time (I started out around the corner):
Also kind of an interesting/amusing thing happened to me in line. I chatted up and made friends with the people directly in front and behind me, when we got to the register and I said my name to the cashier the guy who was behind me turned and said "I knew it was you!". It turns out we know each other, he works with my dad and had just came over to my house a couple weeks prior for dinner. He didn't recognize me because I've grown a beard since then and i didn't recognize him because I have memory issues, we had been talking the entire night and didn't even know it. Small world.

@Knight_ Probably not carpal tunnel but it is a nerve thing. I think it's called the radial nerve? Try making sure your elbows aren't resting on anything that would be putting pressure on it while you play
This nerve passes down the back and outside of the upper arm. The radial nerve supplies muscles that straighten the elbow, and lift and straighten the wrist, thumb, and fingers. The radial nerve gives feeling to the skin on the outside of the thumb and on the back of the hand and the index finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger.

THe pro controller has motion? Makes a little more sense why it is as pricey as it is. Only a little, given the PS4 also does.
I hear the pro controller is nice and comphy which might be good for people finding the joycon difficult. Any reports on that yet?
