I just got in a few and I just sold the last one literally five minutes ago. If you had asked me when you walked in here, you would have one right now.

Edit:
are you not going to TRU on sat? Because I am, and if I do get one I'll sell it to you for retail. No promises though, I'm not sure if I can get there early enough, and no I'm not going to swap it out and give you the Final Switchstination instead. That burden is mine and mine alone.
Very kind, thank you. I'm going to be away, and a friend offered to do the same, so... don't do it solely for me, because if you both buy 'em on my behalf, I'll have to buy his and you'll have to find another buyer. Not that it'd be hard.

I was getting one to have an extra for my mom/friends to play when they want, an entirely superfluous luxury. I'll probably still get one, depending on the line/stock situation on Saturday so if your friend somehow doesn't come through let me know.
He had a flight Friday morning that he was hoping to get some Switch action on.
I mean, I guess he could check out some stores at his destination, but he still misses out living through a Nintendo Switch commercial.
Btw, it's tomorrow evening, not tomorrow morning! I see that a Target 15 minutes past work got 4 in within a few minutes of closing tonight, per istocknow.com.......... wonder if I should go there super early to try to grab one when they open at 8 am............ I have learned nothing and am a bad person
edit: Also, next time maybe if you can't find a wad of cash, use some sort of card to pay? I'm not assuming anything about your credit situation, but it'd sure save some time, and you can deposit the cash later if need be.

The panic wasn't because I needed the cash for a possible purchase - I was just panicking because I wanted to make sure I hadn't left it at the pizzeria last night, and I wanted to make sure it didn't get thrown out with the trash.
Fret not: Switch or no Switch, your cash will be put to good use in Nashville.
Now... I will make an executive decision tomorrow morning as to whether or not I will try for Target at opening. Thanks for letting me vent, guys.
Reading this is so bizarre, here in Australia I'm pretty sure every store in my town that stocks console stuff still has them in stock.
Obviously we got a bigger share than we should've, I'm just wondering if we have the entire allocation that we're getting for the whole life of the console already.

So yesterday I had the story of going to Gamestop and being in line when they were expecting five units and received none. I figured the law of averages was at work so I went back today. So did three of the four other guys from yesterday's front line queue.
The woman opening up the store said "is there something coming out I don't know about?" I thought she was joking but she was serious, I guess she didn't know about yesterday's no shows. Anyway, we wait around in the store for an hour and the UPS guy finally arrives. With 5 Switches! All four folks from yesterday got one, and only the last (sixth) person went home empty handed. Not a bad day, I've been enjoying zelda and Snipperclips as well.

Neo Turf Masters has a mode that let's you play while holding the Switch vertically:
Oh, that's a damn good point. I wonder if we'll see an accessory to hold the switch sideways and attach the joycons to the switch's top/bottom (or left/right in this orientation) to function almost like a fake DS/3DS.
It does seem like the logical orientation if they ever want to add DS games to the VC though.
Not really, maybe if it utilized the whole screen. You can also flip it the other way, or upside down. Apparently you can do it with all the Neo Geo games, and bomberman. A shmup that uses the whole screen would work well vertically
Neo Turf Masters has a mode that let's you play while holding the Switch vertically:
Looking at this shows two things:
1) That would be unplayable and likely dangerous.
2) Why wasn't the GRIP designed to hold the screen this way? I imagine a removable "block" (maybe it flips to the back?). Pull or flip that out and slide your joycons in and your screen in the middle. Boom. Such an oversight!
I guess that can be released later, but just such a simple thing...

I don't consider a lack of support for such an edge case to be an oversight. There's so much that relies on the standard orientation...the kickstand, the charging port on the bottom, the cartridge slot on the top, the standard display ratio of 16:9 that most of its games will be designed for...
Designing a way to have rails on the top and bottom is far from a simple thing. I mean, the joycons wouldn't be the full height of the system anymore, so do they snap to the top or the bottom or the middle? What about how comfortable the system is with rails sticking out on all these sides? And again, for something that will be used by approximately 0.01% of users?

Top and bottom are for ports and vents. I'd be annoyed if they actually put rails there, it would feel like they just designed by committee.
Got to Target near work a half hour before they opened. Parked, went to the entrance - it's in a mall - and found four other people waiting there. Kid, kid, a mom (not their mom), and a sleepy older dude. istocknow said they received four Switches last night, so I figure I'm out of luck. Kid A says that he came in before closing last night and was told to come back for opening. Mom asks if everyone is there for the Switch... I say yes, Kid A says yes. Kid B and Rip Van Winkle say nothing.
Entrance gate opens up, so we get up from the chairs in this little lobby and take the escalator down to the actual door. Old man and Kid B do not follow. They don't budge. Another young woman joins us. It's now, in order, Kid A, mom, me, and the young woman. Store rep comes out and says they received five Switches. Oh boy!
But, she says... See those four people through that other door? They're waiting at the correct entrance, and you guys weren't over there, so I'm going to count them first. One, two, three, four... And Kid A from the secondary entrance is five.
If I had been at the other entrance, I'd have my Switch. As a friend said last night, the universe does not want me to have this thing for this weekend. Probably would have smashed it on the pavement or something. Guess I'm done looking for real now.
Were there any Neogeo games that were vertical? Maybe it's a feature for some future releases?
I'm trying to think of any neogeo games i remember that were on long monitors, and I can't think of any. Most of the neogeo cabinets i remember are the MVS ones, and every game I've seen in those are usually made for the stand 4:3 aspect.
Unless they plan on doing something crazy with puzzle bobble in the future.
Maybe they'll have a Switch in one of those airport electronics vending machines
Yes, but the card reader and bill acceptor will both be broken and he will need to go from kiosk to kiosk frantically trying to get $300 worth of quarters.

Man, this is rough. Sorry you're having such a tough time tracking one down, especially for as much effort as you're putting into it. It sound exhausting!
All I can say is that you WILL get one eventually and will forget about all the shit you had to go through to finally track it down. I know that doesn't mean much now, but stay strong. Your time will come.
Kind of wish I'd picked up a Pro Controller when I had the chance, 99% of every damn accessory is sold out everywhere here. Best Buy had the most left, and it was just three straps, four gray joycons, and two Micro SD cards.
My store in southeast Missouri has a bunch, if you don't think shipping would kill the value we could work something out if you wish
If you're going through hell trying to find a system, you have just like put in an online order on Amazon or similar right? You might find another one in the wild before then in which case you just cancel your order. Otherwise you're slowly working your way up a queue for zero effort and one day it ships.

This would of course require Amazon to have the Switch available to even preorder, unless you want to risk a third party order.

Oh are they not in America? Apologies if so. Amazon UK seem to always have the option to order from them and wait.

Yeah, I know the feeling. When I finally decided that my best chance was to just go to Walmart @ 0600 and hope there wasn't a whole whack of people with the same idea I was better able to focus on things.

I actually never played the first one, so I'm definitely excited to give it a try. Worried I'm going to get hammered by the more experienced players in the short time I'll have with it, but I'll give it my best effort anyway.
I'm gonna play portable for the first session this afternoon, then try TV w/ Pro controller this evening. I feel like I am gonna fat finger the triggers a lot on portable though, lol.

EDIT - Although I'm also kicking off Season 4 of competitive Rocket League tonight, so I'll have to work it around that.
The local gamestop got a few switches this morning. There was a line outside it like 10 long 2 hours prior to opening when I checked this morning before hitting the pass.
