That centurion wasn't an immediate threat for us, so his action looks suboptimal for me. Cylonish, in other words.
I'm guessing more that he saw he had the combo of cards (improve die roll, morale boost for killing centurion) and went for it.
A truly suboptimal cylonish play would have been just going to the armory and not playing any cards, in a true "I'm helping!" but not really sort of way.
Suboptimal would be if he was a cylon and decided to play those cards. Fooling the humans only goes so far. Staying hidden with moves like that ends up helping the humans more than if you were obvious right away and did as much damage as possible.
