The blue flame shrine is a serious pain in the ass when you are low on arrows.
Yeah I had to leave and go buy arrows for that shrine since I had 0. I tried throwing the torch across the gap but it never worked. I would have needed more anyway.
I got maybe three quarters of the way through when I ran out of arrows. A chest right at that point contains a forest dweller sword. I set it on fire and tossed it across the gap. It landed just teetering on the edge on the other side. Thankfully I was able to grab it and finish the shrine with it before the flames consumed it entirely.
Honestly though if a shrine requires arrows they should at least give you a few in a chest or something. I think one chest in there unhelpfully gives you ice arrows. Like the devs were just flipping you the bird at that point.

The only thing more boring than cooking is crafting, so I vote no. Having unusable weapons in your inventory sucks too. I am looking at you Master Sword.
There is no fixing this terrible mechanic. Some people like it and that is fine. Some people also like pineapple on pizza.
You can kill the most powerful version of a Lynel without breaking a single weapon if you do it good
Spend 30 minutes chucking bombs at it?
Though i admit i play stupid when it comes to weapon durability. Probably because it hardly bothers me. Use stuff, destroy it, find more stuff.
Nail them in the face with a Lynel bow using normal arrows and it will stagger them. Hit them, then mount them. You get 5 free hits that use up no durability.
As you're backflipping off of them, go into slowmo and shoot them in the back of the head with your bow a few times.
You will kill them extremely quickly.
Didn't know about the lack of durability use. Are there any other circumstances where you get free hits, like sneak attacks?
Regarding durability. I happened across a flame sword early as a part of a quest. If weapons persisted I'd have probably been using that thing for 20+ hours before I would have found something legitimately worth switching off it.
To me it's like finding a rocket launcher with 4 shots in it, or the power armor in Fallout 4. There will be plenty of time to be a nightmare unstoppable juggernaut full time. Those badass weapons you find early on are just to give you a taste.
I know this is old news, but I was avoiding this thread for a long time. So data miners found unlocks for unreleased amiibo. Is there any way to get that stuff? I'd really like the Skyward Sword costume.

Maybe one of those amiibo NFC emulator apps? I don't have a phone that can use them, so I dunno how they work.

is anyone following the speedrun scene for this? I wanna watch one now that I beat it but I wanna know who's killing it without amiibos. idk what the popular speedrun forum really is and if they have a no amiibo category but if anyone can point me towards it... I'll keep googling but I trust this place more than google. also I keep getting a hit for like 5 versions of the same damn article from when they first got it under an hour.

I think I would assume most are doing it without them at this point? This is old now but I watched it after I beat the game.
They don't need amiibos. They glide onto a horse's back and gather weapons as needed within the castle and during the fight. Those weapons are probably way better than nearly all amiibo weapons anyway.
A fantastic lynel combat guide, pointing out all the unique animation and subtle tells for attacks. Guy's timing is amazing, and makes me wonder what can't you parry in this game.

I finished up the bird Divine Beast.
The intro fight to board it was meh, there was no tension. Also the guy I was fighting with, there wasn't much of a relationship built there as much as Prince Zora. The dungeon portion though was amazing.
I don't care much for the Rito Champion, he's kind of a dick.
That's what I liked most about him. I kind of prefer that to some of the others. And that's part of what I liked about all of them in general, how different they are.
Also I liked the writing, brief as it was. Good localization.
I dunno why but I was impressed to hear in a Nintendo game, the first Zelda game with voice acting, a bird dude saying "this is asinine."

There is, you have to buy the Action Replay WiiU Power Save device. I don't know own it, so I don't know all the specifics. I just read it works with the U and the Switch. You can also choose what drops from the Amiibo chests.

This is a damn good combat guide. I never even thought to parry some of these moves (I still wonder if there's a flurry rush opportunity on the spin attack)
I think he's slightly wrong at :55 though and you get killed by that attack by dodging too early rather than too late
I know in this particular game, it just means I'm going the wrong way/need to grind for more stats, but boy I am just getting fucking REKT in this game.
thanks! there's one that's a few minutes faster but amiibos
The person linked by Uncle Sporky also posted a couple-minutes improvement a few days ago. It appears that amiibo still cut off a couple more minutes - but then again, it's still pretty early to be thinking that the game is anywhere near optimized. Still, I have to admit that there are some pretty snazzy tricks being employed at this point in time. This page on speedrun.com seems to have a healthy listing of speedrun times in three main categories. I was thinking about how speedruns for this game would roll out, and the categories they have listed are the same ones I was thinking about as being viable under regular play. I'm actually quite interested in seeing how the "All Main Quests Completed" category gets routed and cut down over time due to how many possible options there are.
Okay, I ended up climbing the tower and then getting the hell away from that area. Hitting a lot of walls. Mobs of enemies I just can't beat, thorns blocking major roads and pathways to shrines, etc. There's nothing technically stopping me from going to buy special arrows to destroy the thorns, but still. It just feels like busy work now.
It really bugs me you can't get the last three hearts
It's a little cleaner if you deduct the 3 you start with, but yeah that's a bad look.
I'm just shy of 100 shrines but only like 120ish seeds. I can't imagine hunting down over 700 more of those fuckers.
I looked at an interactive map because I'm not spending hundreds of hours hunting down shrines and it turned out it also had seed locations if I zoomed in enough
I laughed really hard after scrolling around a bit before actually saying "wow fuck that" out loud :P

Thanks. My googling turned up some info about NFC tags too. Glad there are options.
Yesterday was feast or famine farming ancient cores. Hyrule field was the famine, the tower with the Hunter Killers was a feast. I wasted every mechanical bastard near Hyrule castle and got 2 cores. Enemies around the tower were dropping them with each kill.
How do you take down the flying guardians without wasting a ton of ancient or bomb arrows?
One Ancient arrow to their laser eye. Wait for them to lock on to you so the eye is staring right at you.
I've found they intentionally wobble around so it's hard to get the shot... until the last second or 2. That's when you shoot.
+3

Those fuckers are really hard to shoot in the eye. I was hunting them for cores yesterday too around the Akkala tower. Every time I killed one the big pile of loot would go spilling off the side of the cliff and I'd have to dive after it. Was kinda fun except for getting all the way back up to the tower to fight more of the bastards.

I am fighting everything I see for the first time now and it's amazing how many parts manage to get into the water and over cliffs. it takes up more focus to avoid that than it does to fight most things.
I'll report in with the Wii U version when I get a chance to install the patch and play tonight. What I plan to do is see if performance changes in Kakariko Village and Korok Forest. Then find and fight some moblins, because I've had the game hitch/freeze on me occasionally when fighting them for some reason. Don't know if it's because their size or their body animations, but when I knock them down at the end of a combo chain the game sometimes freezes for a second or two. It's only with moblins, and the more of them on screen it happens more. Let's see if the patch solves this.

With the exception of one thing (regular arrows) most obsticles can be worked around instead of purchased. For instance, if your out of fire arrows, make a fire, light the tip of your regular arrow and use that.

Had that happen one time. That's when I became more like Kraven the Hunter when it came to where I attacked them.
It's my last weekend with BotW for a long while. I didn't beat it, and I'm sure I won't this weekend, but it was enjoyable. It didn't quite satisfy that exploration itch because the world just feels a little too empty. I think I'm spoiled by Bethesda since you're always finding notes and small back story and even just neat item placements. P5 is out Tuesday and I just don't anticipate a desire to come back to BotW until I'm done with that and by then there will be more games on the Switch.
Conclusion for me:
One of the best launch titles for a new console
The Zelda I've enjoyed the most since the first one
I like that the only 'walls' in the game are essentially skill based
I feel like the world is too empty to make me want to explore every corner of it
What I've seen of the story is well done
It's pretty

I would describe it as perfect. Too many open world games struggle with putting interesting things all over the place which makes it overwhelming. This is just the right amount of content for me. There's interesting shit everywhere to the point where I derail main objectives every single time, but I'm not overwhelmed by my options either.

It's still not solid 30fps on Switch docked always but a lot closer, and there's fewer drops all in all.

Anyone in here reporting the same? Haven't had a chance to play since patch, but I'm excited to now.
