Yeah, I'd say BotW sprinkles in just enough stuff to maximize the "oooh, I found something!" feeling without making you go too long without finding something, unless you're not great at detecting Korok puzzles.
I guess I should qualify that I don't consider seeds and shrines to be something that you 'find while exploring.' I'm talking about the lack of unique places with unique stories. I'm not going to go in a random cave and find an ancient under city. I'm not going to wander in a dilapidated house and find 2 skeletons holding hands with a pill bottle on the bedside table. There are ruins but they are largely empty other than a few weapons. There are no stories to find. In 6 or 7 zones that I've gotten towers for I haven't found anything compelling me to check out what's over the next hill. Seeds and shrines to me are a grind that's been disguised as open world.
I acknowledge that I may be the odd one out with that feeling, but I just need more stimulation with open world. The exploration is relaxing but that's not what I want out of it.

No that's fair. I wasn't really serious about the Koroks anyway but the shrines at least are both nice challenges and valuable waypoints so I give them more emphasis.
On the other hand Zelda games traditionally don't have much in the way of bizarre little easter eggs tucked away. BotW doesn't really change that although a lot of the impetus for exploring comes from various side quests and those do tend to direct you to places you wouldn't normally visit, like the Statue of the 8th Swordswoman.

I thought the most you could get for meat skewers was 210 or so but hunting in the cold gets you that meat but also better meat, 5x = 490 rupees. that's crazy. my sensor is set to rhinos now.

Yeah whatever you want or enjoy from a game is totally fine. Not everything is for everyone. For me I have a story, land was destroyed, it's all kinds of messed up and filled with monsters, I'm exploring it to get powerful enough to destroy the bad guy. I find it challenging to get to new places, I find enemies that one hit kill me all the time (I just started like 2 weeks ago), I enjoy the micro dungeons and I like that while there is an overall story and overall objectives there is no time limit to me just enjoying the game. That's why I wasn't a huge fan of Majora's Mask, there was a hard time limit and then I had to start again. I want to enjoy the game at my pace and do my own thing.
At this point I've only found one of the other races, I've gotten towers in I think 5 or 6 areas and I've played a really good amount. I've looked for help online exactly once:
Perfect guard to defeat guardians at low level
and I've really enjoyed my time. You shouldn't feel bad that you don't like the game as much as other people, or that you like different things in games, you're totally justified to like things that you like

moose and (oddly enough) wolves also drop gourmet meat!
Okay, I ended up climbing the tower and then getting the hell away from that area. Hitting a lot of walls. Mobs of enemies I just can't beat, thorns blocking major roads and pathways to shrines, etc. There's nothing technically stopping me from going to buy special arrows to destroy the thorns, but still. It just feels like busy work now.
With the exception of one thing (regular arrows) most obsticles can be worked around instead of purchased. For instance, if your out of fire arrows, make a fire, light the tip of your regular arrow and use that.
I tend to use my special arrows pretty sparingly.
Yeah, back when I had a decent number of fire arrows, I was able to make makeshift fires with the wood I had to get to that one shrine that is in the ice mountain on the Plateau.
This time, I had a flint and tons of wood, but I couldn't figure out how to get them to work together to make a campfire. So I wasted the only flint I had. I guess I should start buying more specialty arrows, but I haven't yet fully grasped the economy and don't want to sell anything in case I can use it later for something better than just money.
Also in this one area I was in (that I promptly found a shrine/tower/fast travel point and then got the hell out of there, there's just a shit ton of lightning enemies in this one area and giant mini bosses and it sucks. Even with the full electric elixir, I still die via bolt to the face.
I was really disappointed to see that you only get 3 pages of cooked food. I mean, I get it, but I wanted to lug around 100 gourmet meals with me at all times!
As someone who picks up tons of crap, I haven't hit any limit other than with the weapons so far. I kind of assumed they just removed arbitrary limits, or at least heavily increased them, like with rupees.
Also, I am super bummed that only special arrows cause the explosive barrels to explode. I thought this was a video game, with video game logic! A regular arrow should work!

Start a fire nearby, light arrow, then BOOM 'splosions. Or just light the dry grass on fire. That's fun too.

I never hit this limit because cooking takes so goddamn long that I never have the impetus to sit down and cook thirty things at a time.
If I got to change one thing about the game, I'm pretty sure "let me cook in batches, from the menu" would be near the top of the list. I'm tired of having to navigate a menu, hit 6 buttons, and skip a cutscene for each individual item I want to cook, especially when I'm sitting down to cook a dozen durians one at a time to restock on healing or whatever.
Is armor limited to one page? I only have two slots left and I'm missing a lot of pieces of sets.
As of last night I've downed all 4 divine beasts, got the master sword, and have revealed all map sections but two. That said, I (quest/progression spoiler?)
still haven't seen anything for Link's house that people keep talking about

Armor: I'm on my third page of armor.
The other thing:
West part of Hateno Village, near the shrine. Run past the tacky square houses to a regular-looking house and talk to the construction workers.
It's expensive, but you'll want to do it, because it'll unlock an entirely new town.

So, I got the last two towers last night, finally have the world map uncovered. Found the third great fairy. Oh, and I got the Master Sword. NO BIGGIE.
It's funny 'cause I had gotten another heart container and just flippantly thought, "eh, let me see how far Link gets this time." Warp to the Deku Tree, save, and start uprooting the sword. I thought I was going to die, and at 1/4 heart left all of a sudden everything stops - and Link just casually raises it above his head. I almost screamed in delight in my bed.
As for how the Master Sword works,
If I understand the Deku Tree right, the Master Sword has its own "durability" in that I have to stop using it for a while? And does it actually get stronger in the presence of Ganon I wonder?
I don't even think I've seen a red Chu Chu yet. Mostly blue, maybe a green?
You can create red chu jelly by putting generic chu jelly in a fire.

If you kill blue chu chus with a fire arrow they drop red chu chu jelly.

By the way the Wii U version also patched last night. It may have done something for the game's performance in some places, but on a particular route in the Death Mountain area the game was outright stalling for a couple of seconds during combat.

Master Sword stuffs:
It has it's own durability in that if it runs out of power you just have to wait for it to recharge. However if you use it until it tells you that it's low on power and don't use it the power doesn't seem to recharge. So if you're using it then just keep using it until it runs out then switch weapons. At least that's what I've noticed.

The Master Sword does indeed get stronger when you're near anything afflicted by the Calamity - such as Guardians in the overworld. You'll notice that the blade glows and its attack power is increased to 60.

That howl gives you plenty of time for an arrow to the neck. I just explored the area north of the desert, and now my backpack is a circus of meat.
