So I've been going mostly blind, other than the loot box bullshit. It's the sequel to my goty 2014 and that's all I need.
I get into it, get my first weapon drop and see the challenges to power it up.
Oh no...

There was an impressive amount of lore fuckery in the prologue, I am excited for the rest of the game.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

How is everyone playing already?! =p
EDIT - oh snap...I thought it released tomorrow? WOO! Now to just sit through the ungodly long "preparing to launch" business. Up to 48 minutes! =p
You just gotta know that part of Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War's LotR lore comes from when Biff brought back the almanac from 2015 to give to his younger self.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Yeah had quick go for a couple of hours on the PC it's nice looking and yeah there's a load of orks in it and plenty of opportunities to murder in different ways.
Best highlight so far(not story)
A heavy ork captain became adaptive with his shield and was unable to vault any more over him.....this happened in mid-combat! While taunting me!
My first thoughts on the game: Three hours in and I'm loving it. My very first Orc Captain was an orc who sung at me, and his weapon was a lute/axe/club thing. He was also epic, so after dispatching him, I got my first taste of the loot system. Then two hours later he shows up again; we do our song and dance again, and he gives me more epic loot.
I hope he comes back a third time. I would very much like to keep him around to make him a key part of my army.
I started on nemesis difficulty since I remembered the first game wasn't too bad, and dying sometimes is good to get stories from it.
Turns out I was remembering the back half of the game where you have all your abilities. Woof. Bumped it back to normal after like four deaths in a row against different people. Might bump it back up later when it starts to lean too easy again.
I also hope there's a way to speed up the healing. Right now I never do because if I need to heal I'm probably surrounded, and if I'm surrounded I can't because they'll hit me. Disengaging is the best option most of the time.
I guess that makes sense. Will take some getting used to though.
I think maybe I'll turn it up to nemesis. Other than the single try you get at the "multiplayer" revenge missions, I've only died once so far. And if you don't die, the nemesis system doesn't work as well

Yeah, this is going to be one of those few games where I'm going to be oddly okay with dying, because its a good story beat.
My favourite orc from the first was Urk the Friendly, who clashed with me and yelled YOU LOOK LIKE A LOVELY GENTLEMAN I supremely hope they bring him back.
there seems to be some kind of bug with the screen size settings as well; the game defaults to borderless for me but when i set it to fullscreen the quality dips way down. some other posts online complaining about other snafus with it as well
It's running well on reg PS4, got an hour and a half in this morning before work. Ended up getting killed by the first orc I decided to shank outside of the story, but quickly turned the tables in the vendetta/nemesis whatever get-back mission.
Definitely has the same zero to hero feel that Mordor did. On that note, specific gear / runes will probably be the best way to beef up healing, Aistan.
About 8 hours in. Not gotten to act 2 yet. Been dicking about killing bodyguards and chiefs all crazy like. So far I've killed 3 Legendary orcs in the wild. I've probably bought 30 or so chests with the in game currency and it's gotten decent gear.
Tapping the right trigger when sprinting causes Talion to slide. He can slide under carts too. I've been running around large groups of orcs doing this and it never gets old. Also, saw an Orc get cut into two from the waist! That was crazy.

Let me down easy here:
Does swapping between Tailon and Celimbelfdude always involve one smoothly executing the other to take The Watch Ring?
I made it to Act 2 yesterday and I'm enjoying it. There's a lot more cutscenes than I expected. I haven't done much side stuff yet, wanted to unlock some of the story related powers first. Definitely enjoying it so far.

I haven't touched the main quest past the part where it unlocks some side quests thus far, been engaging in captain murder to get levels to expand my toolbox. Got two 'epic' drops so far, a sword off an assassin and a dagger off a bard. Also got a legendary armor for opening the elven poem door in the first area.

I'm running a close to min spec computer (i5 2.8 ghz, gtx 770, 8gb ram) and through the prologue and into act 1, the game runs great. To be fair, Arkham Knight ran fine for me from release so I might be an edge case.
Also, you opt out of any online features. It takes two extra button presses on start-up every time and you can opt-in from the start menu in game.
Is opting out of online features a performance thing? The only online features I saw other than the market stuff was some weird friends list type rescue mission?

No, it just doesn't share your info with WB and cuts out the vendetta missions that get you more loot currency

Someone needs to make him a warchief fast.
Update/unpacking is estimated at 1 hour :bigfrown:
I ran into one of those guys in the starting area and made specifically sure not to kill him.
Nah, that's just the decryption taking it's merry sweet time. I remember having to do a similar thing with Doom.
If I ever get this game: a whole warband of bards.

Both the HD textures and cinematics are listed as free in the DLC section of the Steam store.
This is the best way to handle 4K textures. I hope other games do the same.
