Telling my PS4 to download and install via the app on iOS has never worked for me. I’m on my way home now and if this isn’t ready to play I’m going to throw my cat out the window.

It'll just come back stronger, and immune to everything except caragors.

Me either. It's why I'm all physical on the PS4. Mainly because it takes a year to download anything on their service.
Part of me enjoys watching some of these videos and making myself more irritated about the uh, creative license they took with certain aspects of the lore.
Super duper spoilers. Seriously. True ending included.
The few I've seen are Helm Hammerhand and Isildur are Nazgul you fight as bosses, Shelob (could be lying) apparently claims that Sauron betrayed her and turned her into a spider. Talion winds up as a Nazgul and takes part in chasing down Frodo, but is killed when Frodo causes Mt. Doom to erupt - he's on his flying mount and hit by a chunk of flying lava/rock. I bailed out on the video watching for now.

Wow!
Lore bits about Shelob in the books only:
I vaguely remember something about Shelob being trapped in Cirith Ungol by Sauron just to guard it but I may be mis-remembering that and she moved there after he just asked her. Aren't she and Sauron sort of siblings? But she was deffo never human.
edit: nope i'm wrong, she just lived in there and Sauron never did anything about it because she was a free guard for the pass.

Details.
She's the strongest of the spawn of Ungoliant, who was a colossal spider that was possibly just formed of the darkeness. Shelob found her way to that area and turned it into a den and it was basically a fortuitous circumstance for Sauron. He would send her prisoners and sometimes the odd orc IIRC since it basically guarded that passage for him. [/spoilers]

I keep thinking Morgoth was Sauron's father and not just a stronger version of what Sauron was. Then I've always thought that Melkor and Ungoliant did the nasty and that's what ended up as Ungoliant's brood.
Also I can't FARKING believe this game tries to make out Shelob as being on the good side, that is so dang stupid. "I poisoned him to get him to Mount Doom faster!" That is some straight up bullshit.
It's been awhile since I played the first game; did it have Ubisoft Towers like this one does (at least in the beginning area, I haven't branched out past there yet).
I'm not usually a fan of the Ubisoft Tower thing (ie, climb the tower, activate the little cut scene, get a portion of the map revealed). This game does have a neat little mini-game attached to it, but I'm not sure if I won't find it more annoying then anything as I get farther into the game. But the fact that at least tried to spice this mechanic up a little is a plus at any rate.
Also, +1 to the odd orc just leaving you for dead. I ran into Orc-Name the Taunter; he surprised me when I was busy fighting another captain. I was super cheesed because there was a bunch of loot on the ground and I was about to finish off the first captain when he got me from behind. But instead he just leveled up, humiliated me, and left. I got back up and killed the original captain and now I have a sworn enemy to hunt when I get home from work today.

The areas are more broken up with load screens but they're still pretty big and fast travel still gets you around them quickly. Just be sure to grab those towers when you're nearby. I'd love to see a giant ass no-load screen world but this seems fine.
Ok so early impressions: it’s better than the first one by a considerable distance.
If you’re on the fence because of middling reviews, ask yourself: did I like the first game? If so, good news! It’s that, but better.
Well, to qualify this, if you liked the combat of the first game, this is that and more.
If you liked the big areas, exploration and collecting stuff, this drops that content a bit.
This game is sounding better and better every time you guys post.
Well I mean. Monolith isn't a bad developer. I had high confidence that the game itself would be good. The complaints have been about the business practices likely pushed by the publisher, and the potential pacing issues said practices could cause for some areas of the game.
I knew it was probably going to be a good game - that's a lot of why I care so much, and why it stings so much having to -at least for a while - refrain. To the point where I've tried to bargain with myself about ways I could justify a purchase despite my reservations, like making a matching donation to the tune of the cost of the game to a charity that does work helping people with gambling addictions.

You could also just buy the game, and not support the microtransactions. There's nothing wrong with doing that.
Edit: and I don't mean that in a dickish way. I don't think there's anything wrong with buying a game you're sure you'll like, while ignoring a crap business practice that may be in it.
And for the possible pacing issues, it seems like most reviews are in agreement that the loot boxes are very much ignorable (which further supports my theory that the opposite of whatever Polygon says tends to be the truth)

It's been discussed in this thread quite recently, and I know people are sick of talking about it already, so I'll just say that I don't believe that merely ignoring the microtransactions helps - that a purchase of the game de facto supports those practices, because I believe it provides no adequate incentive for a publisher to improve their behavior.
The loot box thing has been beat to death and brought back as a wraith and beat to death again at least 6 times in this thread, I'd really just drop it, it's not a conversation that's going anywhere.
Well, my plan was to wait for the inevitable GOTY edition. I don't think that plan will pan out since I'm currently downloading the game on my PS4...

I had the same idea. With South Park out next week and Mario Odyssey out the week after, I really don't have time for this game. But I saw that great GMG deal and it was good enough to make me pass out and when I woke up I was surrounded by credit cards and it was preloaded on steam so what ya gonna do.
I remember maxing out my skills in the previous game, however here there seem to be a ton of them. Anyone got an idea how far in you get?
No idea though I been told the best thing to do is at least purchase all the base skills and then work on the modifiers after. Some skills unlock via story but having followed the method above it's working out so far. Lvl cap I don't know.
+1

I actually really like that. That's the only thing that would make sense as to why Lord of the Rings happened at all.
So I had this guy, Nakra the Taunter. His mortal weakness is beast attacks, and the nemesis mission I had for him was to ambush his caragor hunt. It lasted all of 3 seconds, and I didn't do anything but stand on a roof. I didn't even have time to attempt the bonus objective... dude got one-shotted by the caragor and I won.
Nakra, dude... you can't be hunting caragors, man!
