Router problems

So I have a wireless router -- a cheap one -- and I have successfully set it up and got things running fine a few times. I can log on wired into it, my roommate can log on wireless, other ports work on it, etc. It's plug and play, pretty simple.

What keeps happening though is that after about 10 or so minutes, it stops working. I have no solid explanation for why this is at all. Everything is working, and then it just stops. Modem is all lit up, seems to be working. Router is all lit up, seems to be working, but nothing can access anything.

I'm thinking this is a hardware issue and little more, but I was wondering if anyone knew any other possible explanations for why it would go from working to not working just like that.

Also I have another, non-wireless router I would like to set up in its place at the moment, but I seem to have lost the install CD for that one. Is there a way to configure it manually without the install disc?

Thanks for any help in advance.

192.168.1.1 << type it in internet explorer. Should bring you to the log in screen of the router.

Thanks -- it wants an authorization now, but actually I don't think I need it. I'm connected through the wired router right now, so apparently I had just completely messed up my modem and PC and had lost my connection somehow.

So anyway the wired router appears to be solved, any suggestions as to why the wireless keeps dropping out after ~10 minutes?

Step one is always upgrade the firmware for the router from the manufacturer, also upgrade your network card drivers. If it's still happening, make sure you haven't put in too close a space with bad airflow causing it to overheat. Make sure it's in the open and not getting too hot, put a fan on it if necessary.

For Netgear routers, the default combination is username: admin, password: password; for Linksys, I think it's the same, but you can just google your router and figure it out online.

Also, how do you have your TCP/IP properties configured (in case you don't know how to check, go to Network Connections, right-click on your wireless connection, click Properties, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and hit Properties again)? If you have it automatically obtaining an IP address, that might be the problem. Depending on the IP address you use to access your router's interface, you can try setting up a static IP here. Here's what my settings look like, you should pretty much be able to just copy them and try it.
