Yeah his missions suck as most people go full aoe in builds and his "well only kill this many" quests mean a grumbling swap to a single target gem heh to slowly work through the pack.
Decided to build up a lightning witch to try out the new lightning gem. Havent got there yet so just jedi lightning everything in the face. Pretty fun actually.
I was having issues doing his missions with my necromancer witch. My zombies and skeletons and flaming skulls and whatnot were not very discriminate in who they murdered
Seems to be all manner of bodily humors flowing here and there about some of the balance changes, especially bleed and poison as well as the new charge functionalities. GGG isn't indicating a backdown but I predict that making your build plans ironcast at launch isn't going to be the best course of action.
I got some corrupted gems last night? I assume that the having to kill things to charge them up is the only downside right?
Yeah. Vaal gems get a nice dps boost but you have to get charges from killing mobs like flasks. They are useful for additional dps and sometimes have other added benefits on use. Corrupted means you can also not use currency/orbs on them to increase the quality.

Yep. Some were very meta before 3.0 like Vaal Spark or Vaal Fireball but it takes some gearing (basically jewels) to make them work. Another useful one is Vaal lightning trap to shock bosses. Vaal Haste is also good.

My build is literally my character waving his arms and walking away as 20-30 explosive bolts of lightning pepper the screen.
It's very effective but not exactly ah... precise.

Yeah I got a couple that are good not great, like a vaal double strike that summons a shadow version of my dude. And some kind of vaal float blade that I have no idea what it does different than the normal floating blade but since i never got that one...
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Trappers are good fun and I wish they were a little more durable in endgame for hardcore. Deerstalkers + cluster trap can carry you far and you have so many spells you can use!
That new chest with life and ES gain on trap trigger looks more like an admission of a problem than an actual solution

Vaal Double Strike does some dmg if you spec heavy melee.

It does seem fairly nasty. What I like about it though is that it solves the "which of my aoe attacks do I use for general encounters" which is currently lacerate

Ancestral Warchief is a popular option for a damage boost on bosses. So you can focus on improving your lacerate via the passive tree and gear, and keep AW on a 4 link with a bunch of damage support gems.
I'm still so early right now that I'm not even really worrying about support gems as I have so few, and even less so that work with each other. But I'm leveling them just so when I get stuff that works it'll be great.
I love using foils though, I will rapier fuck up the world!

level 18 is where you get a bunch of really good supports. Yeena in Act 2 will sell them after a certain quest.
specifically you'll gain access to Melee Physical Damage and Faster Attacks supports. Put those + Added Fire Damage on almost any melee skill and that'll last you a good long while.

Don't know if you have discovered it yet but the second tab on Nessa will have all the gems you have access too after you complete quests that give you gems. So if you wanted, say, two of the rewards you can buy gems from her for orbs.
Placement AoEs are a pain on the XB1 which is a hard one to get right. Right now it goes to nearest mob or farthest point. Kind of wish they had a placement mode but I am not sure what button they could give up to do it right now heh.

This is the best thing I think ever dropped for me in PoE and I was still mad it wasn't a foil (exalt gave me the reduced req sadface). Love them foils.

I still struggle to know when I should be really investing resources into items. Sometimes it's obvious, but others I just get antsy and want to see if I can make something new and interesting.
In reality I should probably continue moving through cruel and hoard all my resources for that big difficulty jump.
But I guess it also won't matter in a week either.

Generally speaking (echoing your caveat that this will all be different in a week)
Unless you play solo self-found, your early currency is better spent trading than on crafting. You can plug key weaknesses in your build or pick up (say) a solid leveling weapon for much less than the price of trying to craft those items yourself.
Once you get into about Act 2 Cruel, shoot to get your elemental resistances maxed. Usually I achieve this by trading for Two-Stone Rings with a shitload of resistances and some life on them (usually spending between 1 alchemy orb and 3 chaos orbs per ring).
As you get more comfortable with poe.trade, you can start to look for items that are missing one affix you need, but have an open prefix/suffix slot for crafting:
Here, I searched for Two-Stone Ring, 90+ total resistance, 40+ life, online only/buyout only. This ring is only 1 chaos, and it has an open suffix for you to use Elreon's crafting station to craft either cold resistance or lightning resistance, depending on what you need.
The other cheap upgrade that will serve you well is a pair of boots with 25-30% movement speed, along with some life and resists. Being fast is very, very good (both in terms of the speed of your progression thru zones, and for general safety/avoidance of damage) and high MS boots are a priority.

I'm not playing solo self found strictly, my current character can trade, but I'm not sure how much I want to venture into the third party trading stuff. It seems like kind of a hassle.
Trading is a hugely inconvenient hassle that is also pretty much required if you want to play more than a handful of builds or push a build deep into lategame.

Trading is EZPZ.
Right click item, list it with price, wait for responses. Don't even have to leave the game to sell.
Go to poe.trade, Google up what you need, see if you can afford it, and send a bid. Can just minimize the game, find what you need, maximize and snag.

It got immeasurably easier as soon as Premium Stash Tab trading functionality was introduced.
So just made a witch in the Xbox beta. I figured I would just ask the thread what some of the viable builds are.
It seems like totem placement and aoe targeting on xbone are both a little wonky. The usual recommendation is Flameblast but for those reasons maybe not.
Ethereal Knives with the nova threshold jewel is good and simple to play. Summon Raging Spirits is another easy build with a different playstyle.
Pretty much any aoe elemental skill + Elementalist ascendancy will work. Storm Call and Freezing Pulse are both straightforward.
I'd suggest avoiding wand attackers, mine/trap builds, and summons other than SRS as core skills. You can make them work with a decent knowledge of the game and or good gear. They aren't newbie friendly.
I'm at work so I can't link you specific guides from Reddit or the PoE forums. I wouldn't suggest trying to strictly follow a guide for your first character but they can be useful to get an understanding of how the mechanics come together

I also started playing PoE very recently and stumbled across PewPewPew's Beginner Firestorm Witch and it has been awesome so far. Its also the only build to show you step by step where to put your skill points as you go rather than just showing you the final build and leaving you to figure it out. Also, since its firestorm, there isn't much "aiming" as such.
I'm going to start with a summoner like always. I'm undecided about whether to go life or try CI. If there's one build that can still build for ES at 3/4 the total it's summoner.
So I'm pretty sure I saw some builds that said they were melee mage builds when I was looking builds up before that firestorm build was posted, but it seems like I can't equip any weapons other than wands, currently. Is there a way to unlock more weapon types to use?

You need strength and dexterity. You can get those on gear, or on the passive tree.
If you're playing as a caster you'll need some strength if you want to use scepters or dexterity if you want to use daggers.

Another thing to note: If you're talking about dual-wielding, you can't equip both a wand and a melee weapon at the same time. It has to be wand + wand or wand + shield.

End of Legacy league is coming up and I'm still one challenge short of the portal.
Are the different tier 3 talisman bosses not supposed to be equally common? I've killed almost 50 in total and still haven't seen great webmother. If I've done the math right there's less than 0.1% chance of that.
Downloaded this while I wait for the xbone version to come out. I played a really long time ago, I believe before they had started doing any of the leagues, aside from the hardcore/standard ones, but didn't remember what I was trying with any of the characters I had.
Decided to roll a ranger and man, is shrapnel arrow fun once you get the multi-shot support gem. The game feels really fresh after all the time i've spent on D3.

I don't want to dissuade you from playing a certain class, far from it. Just know that Evasion as a defense is in a pretty bad spot right now. You're likely to have a hard time if you use a lot of evasion as your primary defense, you may want to look into incorporating the passive that converts all of your evasion into armor.
It's not that evasion can't be done successfully, it's just harder for new players.

Yeah.
The "keep x alive for x seconds" or "don't kill all bodyguards" versions are fucking infuriating.
