Okay this book is pretty awesome. Came with a reprint of the first comic book too. There's even a chapter on that Image comic. It's full of inserts that show stuff like the original ads Eastman and Laird were placing to advertise the comic, a review from Heavy Metal, script pages, and a recreation of the letter you got if you joined the official TMNT fan club (which blew my hair back because I completely remember getting that letter back in the day, along with the fan club kit).

In fact it looks like the only thing not really covered are the games, which is a bummer, but understandable.

The digital seasons of the Nick show have dropped to $10 per (half of what they were). I don't know if it's a sale or permanent, but I bought volumes 1-4.

Update: Also 5-8... sigh. So weak. But that's the full series, aside from this "Tales of" half season they're doing now.

I'm still waiting for the 4th season to be on Hulu

...are the first three? If so, I need to get to watching

    Turtles rules, by the way

The original comics were good, what I read of the IDW series is great

The first movie is fantastic, I enjoyed 2 when I was a kid (now, not so much) and the 2007 CG film is super underrated. I haven't seen either of the new live action ones yet, not opposed to it, just haven't gotten to it

The original animated series was my jam when I was a kid, the 2003 series kicks ass and what I saw of the new one was really good but I didn't want to buy into their awful DVD releases beyond checking out the first one

As far as games, it's a shame they don't kill it like they used to. The arcade game rules, so does Turtles in Time, The Manhattan Project was great, I ADORED Tournament Fighters on the SNES, but after that, that was kinda it? The Ubisoft game based on the 2007 movie is decent, basically a super simplified Prince of Persia and a really easy 1000 Achievement points, but after that it's been painful. Out of the Shadows was a total shitshow, and the Platinum game is easily the worst game by that company, and the worst game I played last year. Hopefully someone will do it right eventually but I don't see it happening as long as Activision has its mitts on the franchise

A new series? Sign me up

Been working my way through the entire current series (with the exception of season 5 thus far). Just finished season 3, and aside from a minor quality slump in the early part of the season, this whole series has been consistently fantastic.

The number of celebrity guests and old-school throwbacks has been pretty awesome. They reunited the cast from the 1987 series, Corey Feldman (who voiced Donnie in the 1990 film) is the voice of Slash, the guy who voiced Mikey in the 1990 film is Mondo Gecko; Michael Dorn and Lance Henrikson are voicing some Triceratons, David Tennant is Fugitoid... the list goes on.

I've seen the last few episodes of season 4, but I'm looking forward to making my way there naturally soon. Once season 5 concludes, I'll pick that up as well, given that there's an appearance by Usagi Yojimbo in it from what I've heard.

I love how fearlessly weird they've allowed the series to be, and how dark at times.

So I finished the Nick series (not counting the new "tales of" season) and man that series throws pretty dark at the end.
At some point, Splinter kicks the ever loving shit out of Shredder, and - as a desperate move to both recover more quickly and become more powerful - Shredder has Baxter mutate him into Super Shredder. In the last two episodes, Super Shredder puts Karai in the hospital and murders Splinter. Like, blades through body, tossed off roof, done.

The turtles go on the warpath and almost all the baddies are permanently wiped out. Rahzar is drowned by Leatherhead, Raphael rips the breathing apparatus off of Fishface (presumably leaving him to die), Baxter is de-mutated back into a human, Bebop and Rocksteady have an unbelievably deadly trap they set for the turtles turned on them, and Leo cuts Shredder's damn head off.

Overall, it's really damn good, my favorite incarnation of the turtles by far. They even had an episode where they teamed up with the classic turtles (bringing the cast back) and fought 80s Krang. I really really wish we could get a high quality video game out of the series.

    Tales of spoilers
walks back some but not all of that. Splinter stays dead but offers ghostly advice to Leo. Rahzar is resurrected as a proof of concept for rezzing Shredder. Shredder comes back but... wrong. So that doesn't last. Fishface never died and decides the Foot are too insane for his tastes. He bails on them and briefly aids the TMNT. Bebop and Rocksteady are too stupid to die, as always. I agree, best TMNT cartoon by a mile.

Just watched the most recent hour episode of Tales of the TMNT. I gotta LOVE all the late series focus on Mikey they've been having. He deserves it for being solely the butt of jokes and the fuckup for a vast majority of the show.

Hes nore the butt of the joke than any other turtle. The show even implies Mikey will be the best at fighting someday because he doesnt think, his body just responds and in atypical situations that ability lets him flourish. He just hasnt mastered it yet.

The most recent show is good at consistent characterization. Mikey is the most likely to fuck up a stealth mission and does it CONSTANTLY. He is also, by far, the best at using smoke bombs to make getaways possible. After their initial annoyance at how Mikey was overusing them, the entire team deferred to him being the smoke bomb guy for the most part. And these two things go together! Mikey NEEDS to be the best at getting away because he's most often put himself in the situation where he needs to get away!

Also Raph is the most emotional. Normally this is portrayed as the most angry, but this show goes further. He cares the most about his romantic partner, basically being unable to focus if she's around. He's the most upset if one of their allies is hurt. He's the easiest one to hurt his feelings and despite being a bit of a bully to Mikey especially, is easy to tick off by messing with him. And yes, he's the most angry.

Raph cries because Snakes dont have legs.

Seriously making him the emotional core of the team was a great move. His conflicts were more about him not being mature enough to handle that yet and getting into trouble

So by the Tales season, the Turtles' main ships are:
Leo and Karai are basically, kind of a couple? But also half-siblings, so that's weird.
Raph is with an alien Salamandrian warrior called Mona Lisa. They meet throughout the space season and in Tales she invents a position on Earth to stay closer to Raph. There's a wink to Raph's ship with Alopex from other versions (most notably the current comic), but that's basically not a thing in this version.
Mikey is with the Time Traveler Renet in some capacity. She has a lot less appearances than many of the other guest characters, but Mikey and her seem to be dating as much as you can date someone from another era of history.
And then of course there's the Donny/April/Casey trifecta. Season 3 or so essentially moved this relationship issue into a detente, but the most recent episode about Raph and Mona Lisa made a point of going "hey, this is still one of the couples on the show."

I thought there were some hints of Mikey and Shinigami? Or however you spell Karai's new friend's name.
Don't recall if it was reciprocated though.

Yes there were, but she was introduced too late to make any difference in anything basically. They wanted a non-Turtle for Karai to talk to for a certain arc, so they invented her.

The Space season recently went up on Hulu, and I've invented a little game for myself called "Oh hey, it's..." When I'm watching an episode and I recognize a new character's voice, I go "Oh hey, it's Charlie Murphy!" or "Oh hey, it's Ron Perlman!".

6 episodes into the season, and I've had a different "Oh hey, it's" for each one. I don't think I've ever had that with a show before.
