And Cayde referenced dying, which is nearly impossible for a Guardian.
Curious, if they are gone, how long it will be before we get them back? Since Nolan North already confirmed he is back for Destiny 2 (and I assume that would be as the Ghost).
I have no doubt that Destiny 2 will be the bees knees from a gameplay perspective but this story trailer kinda left me cold on the story because...
I was really hoping that bungie would use this opportunity to give us the answers to some of the secrets they've been teasing since the beginning. The nature of the traveler, the speaker, the guardians and the darkness have always been the best story hook in destiny and it seems like they're moving away from that. I could be wrong and there could be some huge twist in store but if they don't deliver on any of the endless speculation that they indulged in Destiny 1 then it makes it feel like all that speculation was pointless.
The cabal are fun to fight but they are by far the most tangential to the whole light/darkness thing that we all thought was the core of the destiny narrative. If the overarching destiny narrative is just going to be new big bad steps up, new big bad gets smacked down then you're squandering all the creativity that exists on the margins.
I am fully aware that a game the size of Destiny 2 is very unlikely to take narrative risks, especially when Destiny 1 did and flubbed it. I just don't want Destiny to lose it's weirder elements to make room for a typical big dumb narrative, when there's clearly room for both.
Things I'd Like to See Before Hopping Back Aboard the Destiny Train:
- Proof that they're putting in a proper story and narrative this time
- Wider variety of things to do, and more places to do it, BEFORE buying any DLC
- Less RNG, more meaningful decisions; there should not be a "best" gun for any activity, in any class. At every level of play, I want guns to better compete so that it's playstyle and skill that matter more than numbers and stats. Case in Point: the earlier advice to avoid high-impact ARs and HCs in Crucible due to their low TTL. That should not be happening. If that style of weapon fits a user's playstyle, it should be just as viable as any other weapon at that level.
I do not have high hopes.
As an aside, how playable is the current form of the game if you don't have RoI? I never bothered, nor do I ever see it on sale, but my perception is "don't bother playing if you're not on the latest DLC".
Also Cayde works better/is funnier as a supporting character. Trailer would have been way better if the whole thing was zavalas speech and then cutting to cayde going '4 the loot' at the end
You should all respond to the WhenIsGood poll, see top of the page.
I did. I see a whole lot of evening and not enough afternoons. That would be the issue I've run into repeatedly with trying to get a constant group for ANY kind of multiplayer: the people I WANT to play with are asleep/at work when I have time to devote
Sunday Best exists specifically to accommodate Sirialis since he's 5-6 hours off the East Coast. It's 10AM EDT. it's worth logging in to see if there is an opening.
Its greatly appreciated.
Plus, I think you meant to say Team Verbal Fellatio.

I'm not trying to start a war here, but are the people complaining about lack of narrative the ones that haven't played Destiny since Vanilla? TTK was the narrative expansion that you seem to want and that was over a year ago. I guess I'm just confused because I've been heavily invested in Destiny's story for a long while now.

I think just having Ikora give her version of a rousing speech (possibly with a bunch of confused guardians around her) would have helped offset it a bit. The contrast between Zavela and Cayde was cool but it did feel a bit unbalanced.
Well they gave a hard date of May 18 for that. Better than usual Bungie "tune in next week for a teaser of the date when we'll tell you the date to watch for the gameplay trailer"

TTK was far better at this than Vanilla, yes, but all of those plot hooks started in Vanilla are still hanging. We know almost nothing about The Traveler, why it came to this system, why "The Dark" follows it, the I-Don't-Have-Time-To-Tell-You Stranger, what the Vex were up to in the Black Garden and why it was important, where the Vex even came from, were the Fallen really a race that The Traveler previously uplifted, what's up with FWC's strange machine that seems to give people visions of apocalyptic futures, etc.
At least it seems we'll likely be getting more info on the Warminds, and life outside the city: stuff like the tale of Thorn and The Last Word were among the best in (outside of) the game, and I want to know more about the world and it's mysteries. I want to see that Bungie's going to deliver some answers, not just say "fuck lore get loot", which is one way to interpret that trailer (the other being "we're working on both".)
I would preorder the deluxe digital on PS4 when I get home tonight, but I'm wondering what the odds are on a Destiny-branded PS4 Pro bundle showing up at some point.

things have certainly improved a bit since vanilla launched, but even TTK suffered from some of the same problems that the base game did. everything seemed rushed, bits of lore only given through the Grimoire which isn't accessible in game, questions left unanswered.
i'm hoping we'll see more improvement in D2, though i'm expecting that the pacing will most likely stay the same.

A lot of that stuff is explored actually. And not just surface level. Enough to have discussions on it. Is it in the Grimoire? Yes. Would it be better in game? Sure. It's there though. And the definitive answers just aren't going to be there this early. 10 year plan, remember.
How I would like to see the Grimoire implement in game is that when you activate a Dead Ghost you get a cutscene from that Ghost's perspective showing what would be in the current card. And be accessible/rewatchable in-game. For non-Ghost Grimoire or things that just don't make sense that way, audio and text logs would be sufficient

What I want to know is just how big is the city? How many people in it?
From what I've seen in game I'd guess the City's size to be about fuck off considerable. Population wise probably more than any city currently on Earth, if my city size guess is anywhere near close.

I played through TTK, and I don't recall any of that stuff getting resolved.
I bet the ruins of The Tower are going to be a strike, or most likely a raid. Just before the boss room will be a robot, just standing there and sweeping the floor.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

That's the thing though.
If we have to wait 3-4 more years for these major plot points to get anything more than what amounts to annotations in the foot notes then that makes the whole endeavor feel like a waste of time.
The biggest improvement I'm hoping they announce is that they've improved their back-end development tools so they can deliver content and bug fixes faster than in their old engine. My biggest complaint about Destiny is that there isn't enough of it and a lot of what we have is re-skinned assets that were there at launch.

Would love this. This is a great idea. I hope that Bungie devs see this idea, use a Vex gate to travel back in time and make sure it was in the early planning stages of Destiny 2.
I have a hard decision to make, do I jump to PC? Honestly, depends on how many, if any, folks from Did We Seriously Never Come Up With a Name? group jump. If none, I shall most likely remain on PS4 and then maybe pick up the PC version on sale down the road. I may also wait a bit on that decision until some more information comes out. Other folks have mentioned how bad Bungie has been about cheating on the consoles, and the rampant cheating in The Division on PC (yes, I know different devs) has me leaning staying with console. Are we getting dedicated servers? I know we're most likely not, but confirmation would be nice. I wonder how much different the game will handle on PC as well. How would Sparrow racing work? Probably not very well with a keyboard. And sprinting, can that be a toggle on the PC? If not, is it cheating if we use AutoHotKey or a programmable keyboard to make it a toggle? I'm quite curious and quite excited for D2.

i'd be shocked and thoroughly disappointed if this wasn't one of the major changes made for Destiny 2. they know that they can't have the same drip feed of content that they had last time around and it does seem that they've been building up the live teams since vanilla. hopefully we'll see more regular, small updates between the larger expansions.
