Eh, I just logged in to check. It's on Shudder right now.
Yep, uploaded today. Just started watching it
Finished. For being the star's first directed picture (she also wrote it, and did so while actually pregnant!), I felt Prevenge was pretty good! I loved the concept, the story went down a unique route that I haven't really seen addressed a lot and believed was handled really well (
prepartum and postpartum depression
), and Alice was entertaining! If you have the service and enjoy black comedies, I think you'll have a fun 88 minutes
Wait a second: did no one suggest Helen Mirren as Tarkin in the gender-swapped Star Wars?
I did, but only when I brought up the conversation at a dinner with friends offline as an obvious overlooked bingo.
We brought up a few good options that weren't covered, I think. But we were willing to play a lot more with putting PoC into roles that weren't originally PoC castings.
my favorite bit is at the end where you hear the plates break before he even kicks them
I like how the guy making all the grunts at the beginning was so dedicated that he matched his noises to the slightest change in facial expression

But for real Aquaman looks like he is having a blast being a superhero and doing cool shit and I am way into that.
Yeah, I am basically on board with everything you said.
The tone clashes with the aesthetic. It looks like a standard Zack Synder movie but with a script tune up.
Except for Aquaman. I am totally on board with that Aquaman. He is just so pumped to be Aquaman. He might finally remove the old trope of 'useless Aquaman'.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I feel like that's a lot of Jason Momoa. The dude seems super pumped to be in the film, and it's hard to look at that man and think "hmmm, that's a person who would be useless in combat".
Also, do we know who the villain is supposed to be? Seeing a lot of bug things, like from BvS's dreams of future batman.

The bug looking guys are Parademons, the shocktroops of Apokolips. In the extended cut of BvS there was a scene with Steppenwolf, one of Darksied's generals (and uncle), so... presumably Fourth World/Evil Gods stuff is a-happening. I doubt there'll be any New Gods though, which is a shame.
Also, I'm super pumped for Aquaman's own movie. Mamoa looks good, Amber Heard as Mera has potential, James Wan directing and it's supposed to have a 'horrific-creatures-of-the-deep' vibe that makes me excited.

I just can't understand why the DC movies insist on being so blue and washed out in color.
Yeah it's not my favorite. Though it's one of the things I actually prefer to the MCU's super flat tv lighting.

not going to post about it a ton in here, but the Power Rangers movie was good and a lot better than I would have reasonably expected a power rangers reboot could ever be

That's crazy. You're crazy.
Their color grading is super flat. Makes it easier to composite cgi. But it can make stuff look like it's all on the same plane as opposed to having any depth in a shot.

I'm not saying DC is doing great here either. Just slightly edges out for me.
I don't think the DC movies look great but they're at least aiming for something. Shit, Marvel's shows on Netflix are more ambitious visually than their movies are

One looks like an intentional stylistic choice. Where I think the other is more of an act of convenience.
Marvel's movies have color. If that is achieved by "flat, TV lighting" then I'm all for it. The entire Justice League color palette being silver, grey, or drab white is just awful.

They have color but they don't have black.

And the colors are faded. If they color graded the movies would be drastically more colorful. And black would give them a depth that they currently lack. Or if it was shot on film.
Basically there is a sort of default palette that doesn't really change, and it looks like they just pulled it from the camera as opposed to put in the extra work to really make a vibrant picture.
Which again. DC would do better with focusing less on monochromatic schemes, but the images are much quicker to parse even with a limited palette thanks to color grading. Figures are separated from backgrounds and so forth.

Yes and no? The last two Marvel movies were:
Civil War, where three of the main characters are black heroes.
and
Dr. Strange, where one of the hero's best allies (for a while) is a black man. And there's the firm suggestion that that guy will be the antagonist for the next movie after some logical character development.
So we're not exactly talking about Transformers here. Could they do better? Of course, but that's basically always true.

Ah, alright then. Three it is!
Wait, did he somehow lose his son in 4?

Not a huge fan of the trailer
The visual style and tone/music clash super hard
Cyborg's CGI is hilariously bad
Aquaman looks super rad
That cyborg makes the transformers designs look sleek

I submit to your eidetic memory of pulp movies.

You realize you are now on like three watch lists now
I just saw Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time and liked it a lot!

Was super sad to find no Godzilla movies on Netflix; what's the easiest way to watch some Kaiju action?

Thor 3 is aiming for that too, it seems
