Even though I bought MK8 plus all the DLC I'm pretty sure Nintendo won't be giving me any sort of discount on MK8D. Though, to be fair, I seem to remember MK8 coming with a free game at launch. I want to say I got Pikmin 3. So I guess in a way it evens out.
Any word on when the next batch of consoles hits stores? 'Coz I missed out and have yet to find anywhere near me that has them.
I have bought two switches now and witnessed a third purchased. There are no batches. They just show up. I bought MIL's at a Target I walked into during my lunch break on a weekday. They'd just stocked three of them, unplanned. I bought mine at a Walmart I walked into around lunch time on Saturday, they'd just stocked three of them, unplanned. My buddy bought his at the same time on Saturday at a Best Buy, where they'd just stocked 20 of them.

I already had New Super Mario Bros U and Pikmin 3 so I ended up with Wii Party U or some such from that promo.

Yeah, I got WWHD and sold the code on eBay for $30.

What magical land do you reside in? Around here there are people camped out at Target on a daily basis *just in case* they stock them. Every. Day.
I love Pikmin 3, but people shouldn't consider Nintendo's previous nice promotion justification for you to buy this game. They had a console they desperately needed to take off, and a bunch of games that weren't selling as well as they hoped, and figured they could drum up some hype on otherwise sunk cost ventures. You already bought Mario Kart 8 and they are trying to sell it to you again. If you believe that the added content + playing on the Switch is worth $50 to you, then by all means go ahead. But people are just performing mental gymnastics to convince themselves.

Washington DC area. It's a pretty population dense area, so I dunno. In the course of all this, I've gone to probably five different Targets, two walmarts, two best buys, and god knows how many gamestops.
Secret tip: Fuck gamestop it will never help.

My best buy last week - they are showing up, you just need to get lucky right now as they sell fast.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
No doubt Zelda is a big driver. It's probably the best launch title a console could have except for maybe Super Mario Bros back on the day. But I think a big part of it is the Switch itself fills a niche that hasn't really existed until now. Sure BOTW is awesome. But portable BOTW at full console level quality? That's pretty damn sweet.

I realize that Breath of the Wild was no small feat, and does a great job at being a landmark title for the Switch. I can't begin to imagine what Nintendo's sales expectations for it could have been. And, no insult to anyone, but a game like this doesn't just appear, even discounting all the WiiU development and so on.
But the question remains, what will the next Breath of the Wild for the Switch be? Will nothing surface over the summer until the arrival of Skyrim to represent another high-profile title that is not a racing, puzzle, sports or indie title? Those are all well and good too, don't get me wrong. I just want to see something else with the kind of ambition and scale of Zelda at least get announced.

On the one hand, I've heard good things about the first game and this looks like an interesting follow-up. But on the other hand, some of the models and animations make this look weirdly low-effort.

Animations look like that because they're robots. I think it's intentional, especially if you look at how the combat is.

Some more news, Nintendo has started a Hackerone campaign for people to help find bugs/vulnerabilities in the Switch:
The old school JRPG system of "use one ability per 30 seconds and then watch a whole lot of animation" doesn't sit with me very well anymore.
It's been years since I've played a game like that so it's come around full circle into being interesting and new again for me.
Edit: I'm also going to be living a Nintendo commercial as I travel to Orlando for Star Wars Celebration tommorrow. I picked up a PDP Elite Player backpack for the trip and hoo boy, this is going to be a huge help. It has secured pockets for the screen (it fits with hybrid cover attached), six joycons, the pro controller, and the dock as well as many other pockets and zippers for things like the grip, hori stand, 3DS, multiple cases & cables, and a designated pouch for a cell phone and headphones. Pics in spoiler (I pulled everything out of their pouches a bit so you could see they were there). I tested it out on a trip to Best Buy and it's really comfortable, A+ so far:
No posts in thread for almost 7 hours. Switch is dead, confirmed.
So I'm at a bit of a controller crossroads. I was finally able to order a Pro controller, which I'm very happy about, but now I need to decide a course of action to make myself Mario Kart Multiplayer Ready. I can either buy another Pro controller or another set of joycons. On the one hand another Pro is $10 cheaper and then I have 2 great controllers any time I want to play something with 2 players. But on the other hand, I have 2 kids, and one loves 1-2-Switch, so being able to play 4 player in that (and future party type games that need joycons) makes getting the joycons seem like the right decision. In other words, fuck you Nintendo, you got me.

I'm gonna get a second pair of Joy-Cons when ARMS comes out.

You know, I feel like I've seen a lot of people say this sort of thing. "I took it on a plane just like in the commercial" etc.
With so many people living out the commercial in different ways, maybe their outlandish/laughable use cases weren't so crazy after all?
Every single comment I've seen is related to playing on an airplane.. which isn't outlandish at all. It was the fucking rooftop party where you're waving your friend over from her window 250m away that was laughable. Or just.. you know.. partying on a rooftop.
In other news, I'm totally buying Mario Kart immediately, but the trailer for it is completely ridiculous. The narration sounds like it was recorded in an Uber on the way to the studio.
I played Snipperclips and FAST RMX at the pub which was as close to the commercial as I got. Unfortunately I spent the whole experience worrying someone was gonna spill a pint of Guinness on it.

That seems like one of the most common use cases, having it at a party. The one I haven't seen yet is people setting aside a basketball game to play basketball on their Switch instead.
I took it to a party, but within 10 minutes tops of starting 1-2 Switch people were asking if we could play the Mario Chase game from Nintendoland instead.
That and (to a lesser extent) Luigi's Ghost Mansion have their hooks deep in my fiancee's brothers and their friends. Though they also thought the Wii U was a brand new thing last year, so.......

Mario looks pretty ambitious from what we've seen, even if it's more an evolution of the Mario 64 style.

Not true; they didn't work in one version of Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge until that was patched in (at least, I think they did.
