For some people anything less then being pocket healed constantly is a deathly insult.

My worst was a DVA who'd start yelling for heals whenever he took even scratch damage. Didn't matter I was solo healing or that I had people actually at risk of dying to heal or a Genji that I kept having to drive off.

He also threatened to throw on attack because the team comp was non meta. Even though that exact Comp had held the enemy team at half way to the first point. Charming guy.

With the new Lucio change I'm running into people who are trying to use him as a flanker, always keeping speed on and riding walls to sneak behind enemies. I don't know where this idea came from but it's popped up half a dozen times today. Granted it was quick play but still, different people kept doing it as though it's the bird is spreading the word.

He never let up. He kept bitching the whole match. Like all he wanted was for me to tilt or something

Yeah, rezzes are the worst as Mercy. I'll get told I use them too early, that I don't use them early enough. Or, more commonly, that I should hide to use my rez. Which, ya, obviously, but if I'm the only healer, there's a tracer, and I'm saying, "Hey, there's a tracer on me..." I guess it's my fault for not doing <insert thing they want me to do>.

I've engaged in a lot of bad habits when it comes to Overwatch, but screaming about Mercy rezzes has never even once entered into my brain.

He was yelling about that too.

Turns out he was a "mercy main" (in 1400, so that means so much) and basically every time he died I am pretty sure he was bitching about a rez.

Like at one point we were 20 seconds into a match, everyone suicide rushed the point and melted (I was hiding in back, managed to survive but die shortly after which I should anyway to not stagger) and he was bitching. I don't think he specifically said rez, but it was right after bitching about it pre match.

Like the guy had to be trolling or something I dunno. The whole team just rushed in alone, trickled, tried to flank a death ball, you name it. I couldn't even heal anyone because they were dying so fast.

I almost forgot since I had tuned it out, but the guy started off by asking why I didn't follow them all onto the point before it was even unlocked. Like right into the middle of the room, out in the open. I was in the back then they all died and I backed off toward spawn and he wondered why I wasn't out there suiciding with them.

Still went on to win 3 in a row though. I have been really working the whole stay on high ground and get max range beams thing and its been insane. I almost never die anymore. Seems like most opponents at this level don't even bother to try to get up there. I also started getting better at cutting off leaps early once I am just entering beam range. The results have been noticeable.

There's almost never a 'right' way to handle Mercy rezes. Sometimes you just need to rez one other person to make sure you can stay alive and keep the team up. Others times that person just gets killed and you miss a 3 rez.

Orisa's "HALT" is like the best non-ult way to deal with a Mercy rez. They have to be in range of HALT's AoE to be rezzed, more or less, and it acts as a semi-Zarya ult if you can herd the cats well enough to take advantage of it. Never forget that they are still all frozen in place for a second or two during the rez which can allow you to position/coordinate to put them back on their asses just as fast as they got on their feet.

I'm a strong believer in what I call "tactical rezzes." That is, not saving it for a team wipe that'll never come (of course, jump on a 3-5x if you can!), but rezzing the right person at the right moment, when they're in the right position..

Example: we're defending on Eichenwald. I'm solo healing, and they've just killed our Rein just past and on the left of the choke arch (from the defender's pov). The rest of their team pour through that little hallway on the left, and I'm watching from the doorway on the other side of the choke. The rest of my team is pouring fire into the hallway from our side, and I wait until the last of them passes our Rein's corpse.

Then I rez him, pull my pistol and suddenly that team is getting hammered from both sides. They don't last another ten seconds, and we form up for the next push.

From playing as, with, and against Orisa's, I think she kinda comes down to two things.

First is Halt usage. Halt is really, really good! Shoot it above enemies and just start spamming shots, drag them into the air and you can deal a ton of damage on targets as they fall down in a straight line. It also makes it really hard for enemies to peek corners, or you can shoot it to the side of Reinhard's shield and suddenly drag him to the side, opening things up for your team. And if the enemy team tries to dive your backline you can pull them right off and give your team time to escape and put shots into the immobile flanker. It's sooo good, an Orisa that is constantly using it really makes life tough on the enemy team.

The harder part is predicting where you're going to need your barrier. If you're at a choke and you just drop it at your feet you really haven't aided your team much. You need to deploy it PAST the choke, so your team has cover to move forward and fight, otherwise your barrier is just part of the choke. Barriers are about controlling space, not just absorbing hits. Just like how a Reinhardt who stands at a choke and never pushes forward isn't really contributing to achieving the objective, an Orisa who drops a barrier against a wall and just stands spamming shots isn't actually tanking. That's the biggest problem I've seen with Orisa players, they repeatedly don't put their shield out far enough to contribute once the fight moves from poking to full team fight. Like, even if you put your barrier out far enough that the enemy tank can immediately walk through it, that's actually a great contribution! You've just isolated the enemy tank from their DPS and any non-Mercy support, while your full team can still support you in attacking them, and you can use Halt to stop them from backing out! The Orisa barrier is arguably more important as a way of forcing enemy tanks to out of position, rather than as a tool for just blocking health damage. Enemy tanks have to move either too far backwards because of your barrier, or have to move too far forward and their team can't support them as well as your team can support you.

That's one of the dangers of ulting. Oftentimes the positioning your team had when they wiped was a big part of why they wiped, and rezzing immediately is just spitting in the wind - the only counter to it is to wait until the enemy team gets comfy with their win, turns their backs and maybe moves to a place where your pal's graves may be strategically beneficial.

Couple hours in with Sombra and I think I'm getting a toehold on her mechanics. She is a blast to play, super fast and very different.

I was on a murdering spree in qp but I still don't think I'm nearly ready to bring it to comp. I'm making way too many mistakes still (specifically on her recall skill, which is the key survival skill to use), but holy shit did I do some cray stuff (probably pedestrian for good Sombras, but for me it was like I was Neo).

I've figured out that she is heavily ult-dependent. Moreso than most, probably just behind Mercy in dependency.

    I think I'm in love.

Sombra is goddamn amazing. It's not just a matter of her being played right. A team has to operate around her to get the most out of her. It's very map dependent, but basically whatever health packs there are have to become your sort of fall back position for the entire team to make the most of them. Like the China map has great health pack locations by the capture points on 2 of 3 of the capture locations.

I like Sombra, and I feel like I play her on par with my average skill level. But I still struggle to pick her in comp because 1) DPS spots are rare and already fought over 2) if I'm REALLY trying to win, there are heroes I'm just flat out better with and 3) because she isn't in the pro-meta at all, I know if we lose I'll probably take crap for it.

Yeah, once my qp team saw what I was doing they started acting in concert.

Had a team kill that was 3 ults: I took down their shields, Rein knocked all 6 of them to the ground, and Mei fired her ult, and we just pelted em until they were all dead.

I can see why people don't like her. You're kind of an opportunist and pick off strays, act as a semi-support, and probably won't be getting many golds come the end of the match. But I couldn't even bring myself to care about that.

Yeah, your last point is probably the most relevant.

You've gotta have a team, or at least 3-4 players, who will go along with you. Oh, also, not suck, but that's to be expected.

The Any Heroes mode of the PVE thing is unjustifiably difficult. Or perhaps that could be because my teammates are Sombra, Reinhardt (who has specced out of shield) and Zenyatta, who only heals via ult. There's only so many robots one 76 can kill...

That is an unlucky draw of doofi, but there are several heroes that demolish that mode solo. Bastion and D.va come to mind, it's hard to lose if you have just one of them.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to use him after the new changes. The improved wallriding and new boop makes flanking and pushing enemies out of position incredibly effective and his improved DPS lets him get out of bad situations easier, but that's mitigated by his decreased aura range. I'm not sticking around in the backlines by any means (unless I have other teammates harassing the backline with me), but rather I'll try to get a key boop in and rush back to support the bulk of the team.

Its been interesting feeling out the best place for Newcio to be. Definitely if Lucio is the only healer he should stick in the backlines tight with his team and keep his tanks up, though even then I do try for the occasional flank to boop the enemy Rein out of the way or something. But if Mercy, Zen, or Ana are doing a decent job keeping the team's frontline up, it can often be beneficial to stay with the backlines with the other flankers/DPS on the team to keep them up.

The Heal song is 30% more effective too, don't think Speed has been increased though.

BTW my career high of 2600 was when ranks were inflated back in season 2, prior to the 300 SR drop everyone received. So 2300 gold was my 'career high' which I've long since passed up and I'm definitely playing better than I ever have. Also back in season 2 I more or less stopped when I got to 2600.
