I am playing the early access and gotta say, the biggest disappointment with this release for me has gotta be the SMT Soundtrack pack. Unlike in P5S where you could set it to shuffle every Persona battle soundtrack and it ruled, for this pack you must select a single SMT's soundtrack to play battle themes from, and it only works in the Vortex and not in places like Amala.
Been playing Persona 4 for the first time on Steam and people really weren't kidding about how easy it is to accidentally miss stuff in this game.
Initially got a neutral ending because despite realising that Namatame wasn't the actual killer, I didn't yell at the rest of my team in one dialogue choice. Whoops, game over.
Right at the end of the game now and I apparently just skipped the actual final dungeon because I didn't realise I needed to go check something specific in town without any clear indication that I should do so.
It's been a fantastic experience but I have no idea how I'd have figured out the resolution to either of those without looking up an FAQ.
Remind me (MASSIVE spoilers, don’t read if you haven’t beaten Nocturne before):
If I’m going for TDE, I can pretty much ignore all Reason choices, right? In fact, dialogue choices are pretty irrelevant throughout the game if I am aiming for TDE, right?
Also, thoughts on Dante vs Raidou? I am curious about Raidou but I’m inclined to go with Dante again.
It's Reuben Langdon (Dante's VA since DMC3) back again from the sound of it.
Nice deep cut.
I ordered the Switch version, so it might be a minute before I can share my feedback. I've heard Yuko and Hikawa's voices are the highlight, though.
(And Chiaki sounds appropriately snobby)
Chiaki and Yuko sound great. The men are less impressive, though I do like Hikawa. I like Forneus, too.
Good voices.
Yeah, looked at the cast list on IMDB and seems to be standard Atlus/anime actors. From the 10 or so hours I've played, haven't noticed anything that stood out as bad.

Remaster of Nocturne seems very disappointing. I think I would be more disappointed if I had ever finished this when it came out (or remembered anything about the story) but even as a "newcomer" you can tell this is a pretty barebones job. I think they definitely are to be commended on adding full voice casting (although some of the Japanese voice work sounds rough), however it seems like that is as far as they were willing to go for this. Which is a shame, because I would have loved to have seen SOMETHING done to sell this to a "modern" audience. Especially at 50 bucks.
I will say I admire them for keeping some things intact, like the complete absence of a direct tutorial and leaving you to figure out the games mechanics. I'll keep going, as the games story does seem interesting so far (though I hate how with the VO references to main characters are now vague pronouns) but it took a lot of strength to tick my gameplay file over the two-hour mark on STEAM.

Yeah, I decided to pass on it when most reviews said more or less the same.
Kinda crazy they would also charge 50 bucks for it. Given that it only really seems to be an up-rez it should have been around 30 at best.
Like it would have been nice to have some gameplay modifiers such as FF8 and 9 remasters did.
Whelp, after my 10th death in the first area of NOCTURNE I've decided to turn the difficulty down to NORMAL since it seems people have plenty difficulty at that level as it is.

They changed the fusion system to the modern choose your inheritance stuff, but otherwise it's graphics, VA, and Raidou.
For anyone new to the series, I'd have a hard time telling them it's not worth it. And for us fanatics, well, we'd get it anyway.
I picked it up because I got a slight discount and waiting for a post-release sale would only shave off a little more. I'm also giving a bit more leeway because they redid the game in Unity which is a bit more complicated than say, porting an old Call of Duty into a newer Call of Duty's engine. But it's a tougher sell for many than Persona 4 Golden releasing on PC at half the price.
The reflections in the remaster look great though. I gawked for a bit after getting to Shibuya's underground market last night. It's not the highest quality stuff of course but not something I expected to see in an SMT game, even a more modern one.

Yeah, I also disagree that it's not worth it. I mean, I pretty much played through it in its entirety for the first time only 1-2 years ago and I still thought this remaster was worth $70 and I still do. It's so pretty.
I really hope they also do this to Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2. And I hope the only thing they change other than the graphics is to just let me play in hard mode from the beginning. I don't think they need to add anything else. And I hope they don't add EXP farming DLC. I just feel like it trivializes the grind far too much, and I feel like it would be detrimental to the Digital Devil Saga experience considering the Omoikane and feast zones and all that which are put in for you to strategically mitigate the bland grind. DDS doesn't really need any of that IMO.

DDS really made upgrading a matter of strategic play as opposed totime spent, and I was there for it.
Part of why I jumped on buying this is to continue to indicate with my wallet that I want more Atlus RPGs on PC. This one's not as well executed as P5S and P4G were, but I think it's acceptable as far as these things go. Maybe my standards in PC JRPG ports are just fucked from like twelve years of getting Square-Enix's mobile runoff with shit like hard 15FPS caps and touch interfaces and Android system fonts.

Just off the cuff:
-The gameplay segments in Title Loop 1 & 2 are both completely new, they added in new sequences(and replaced Dante with Yuko).

Such a good pair of games.
For me, the Digital Devil Sagas were the perfect blend of SMT's demon-infested post-apocalyptic dystopia and Persona's hanging out with friends. Two great tastes that turn out to taste pretty great together.

I doubt I'd buy a DDS remaster, because there isn't really as much to fix(it's already voice acted, and what could they add?), but I'd encourage it for anyone who never played it.
Digital Devil Saga just needs the Persona 4 treatment, and getting both games in a single package would already justify something closer to the Nocturne remaster's price point.

This is going to sound decadent and wasteful, but I'll pay $70 to play it handheld in my recliner.
Then again, Digital Devil Saga is one of my top 10 all-time favorite video games going all the back to 1983. Thats possible cresting 10K games played or sampled in some way. So yeah. I'll play it again.
edit: There's a kind of coziness in curling up on a couch or recliner and playing a robust game like Nocturne (or DDS or Persona) in handheld mode.
.The DLC dungeons are silly. If you wanna completely break the level progression in the game, that's the way.
(I used it to quickly level up my Ongkot, so I could get Tetrakarn faster)
It's amazing how Atlus blends "broken cheatiness" with "annoying af" since you still have to complete a battle to level up. So you still have to spend some annoying effort even to cheat. It's so...something. I don't even know the word to describe how I feel about it.
I mean, that's not new. The cheat DLC in SMT IV works the same way.
I just can't think of a less efficient way to handle that kind of cheaty content.

So far, for the most part, my feedback on the updated translation is that if it wasn't broke, they didn't fix it.
That said, felt silly to have the voice actors dance around the optional-naming for the two friends and Ms. Takao. Should've just kept their names as-is and only had the Demi-Fiend be nameable.
Also, Hikawa really does put in serious work. He's flawless.
Hijiri sounds... deeper than I expected, always thought he'd sound more lackadaisical.

edit: Wait, so they get the same skills? Unless I’m remembering wrong, Dante’s skills seemed very Dantelike.
Edit ok: I checked yeah their skills all do the same things more or less. Raidou skills just involve summoning various demons for their animations

I heard Thor's 'DIE' got redone, which makes me sad.
(Does Titania still do "Are you ready?")
Maybe someone will do a 'classic' VA patch for Nocturne, lol.
Also:
They shoulda got Nic Cage to do the voice for Hell Biker.

Even Blizzard/Activision isn't that greedy with their remasters. More greedy than Activision!!!
Thor doesn't sound too bad, just more regal than menacing like he used to. That DIE used to be terrifying, though.
Yeah, this cost me the same thing as RE Village(PS4), which is surreal if you think about it...
