On the subject of Habitat 7 and atmospheres and such.
Voeld telling me that it's at most, -30 degrees C on its surface... really trigger immersive dissonance given rarity of proper atmospheric protection. Why do I have ears? Why does Peebee have skin? Sure, it's not Jack "I guess because biotics and tattoos" bad, but still. Forced helmets and fighting on planets that would require proper space gear is a thing that I miss in these games.
Also, all of the Angaran seem to have severe post-nasal drip... Just cough. let that gob go... no don't swallow it... euuugh.

Reminds me of the crazy talking bug warriors in WOW: Pandaria, I forget their name already. Always made me want to clear my throat whenever they talked to me.
Well thats unusual. It failed to load into a match, and afterwards every menu screen in the multi lobby had the in game ui overlayed on it. (thats me on the left in lurid highlighter lime)
We're told they feel emotions super keenly, and are really open about it, but outside of Jaal sobbing once, I haven't seen any angara actually emote anything but distrust, frustration, and/or hostility, and not in a way appreciatively different than any other race I've encountered in the franchise. Elcor? They're markedly different. Hanar? Markedly different. Angarans? Not that different.
If anything, I'd say they're more reserved than open. I mean, after playing 3+ Mass Effect games, I'm used to not being trusted and having to win over people of all races, so the angaran cautiousness and distrust doesn't really stand out. Admittedly, I haven't finished Jaal's loyalty mission yet, but so far I'm really disappointed. I was expecting the angarans to actually emote, not just generically speak in reverence about the Moshae or generically distrust me.
Well I mean, they HAVE spent ~75 years being invaded by the first aliens they ever met, and now you showed up, and half of you are assholes, so... I'm feeling like they're pretty realistic here.
I'd argue the main thing is they're open about it. There's no "pretending to be nice"; if they don't like you, you will fucking know it. The lack of a shower of positivity just seems normal given the conditions.
Yeah, but like you say, it's normal. I mean, yeah, they're totally justified in not trusting me. But, their level of distrust - and how they express it, which is key - doesn't seem out of the ordinary given the context. I mean, shit, Udina was more openly hostile than these people at times. Same with the Turian Council member.
I was just expecting a lot more given the description, which is why I'm disappointed. Again, in a universe with Elcor and Hanar, the Angara really don't stand out in any way. I see human emotions expressed, largely, in a human way, albeit with some generic TNG alien-of-the-week patterns of speech.

Klaxxi I think? It has been a few years since I touched WoW.
Andromeda could definitely used a few non bipedal sapient races. Then again, so could the ME series as a whole I suppose.
Had some really good MP matches yesterday. Still getting crashes at the most frustrating times. Fucking EA/Bioware, if you can't make a stable fucking game and I crash in the middle of wave 6, give me something. You were tracking my score, you know I participated. It is already extremely risky to use boosters in any fashion when you never know when you're just going to be dropped back to the desktop, at least don't utterly waste my time. :rotate:
Soldier is nuts strong with good weapons, I'm finding. I'm only level 10 now, but even silver just feels almost trivial. Supercharged Talon can take down pretty much anything. It feels good to actually see chunks of health taken off a Hydra.
I want to just jump straight to gold with him, but am concerned players won't be keen on a level 10? I dunno, I still haven't done much gold.

Yes, Klaxxi. First y'all complain that we have too many Rachni, then we don't have enough Rachni. Which is it, dangit ?
Yes, Klaxxi. First y'all complain that we have too many Rachni, then we don't have enough Rachni. Which is it, dangit ?
What? There has never been enough Rachni.
I would be fucking ecstatic if
in the obvious DLC that is coming for the Quarian Ark, they have brought along a Rachni queen, and you get its help solving whatever the problem is.
Granted, it wouldn't make sense in the context of the ME timeline and the one in ME being the "last" or whatever, and how that plays into ME3, but still.
If the Krogans can have some hope of having the genophage somewhat fixed in Andromeda, even absent ME3 events, the Rachni should get a fair chance too, in a galaxy that isn't totally fucked
Of course the real reason why all the aliens are bipedal is so they only have to use one animation rig
Like even when Elcor were around, I don't think we ever saw one move, they always just stood around, because they had no walking animation
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
Man, finally riding around with Liam and Vetra. I thought this stuff was going to be pent up sexual tension ala Miranda and Jack, but it's just nasty barbs from the bad push-up posture king trying to be the fetch queen in Andromeda. Prolly brought a burn book with him too.
Liam is pretty much the worst henchperson character in the entire franchise.
I've come to realize that the way I feel about PeeBee is the way all you dudes feel about Liam. Well, except my hate doesn't run as deep, I guess. I just dislike her a little, she's no where near as terrible a character as Jacob or Miranda.
The comparison being: they both do stupid shit basically constantly, but at least Liam has the excuse of at least trying to help. And a lot of his ideas actually do help. PeeBee's excuse is neurosis and bowing her will to Darth Girlfriend. Everything about PeeBee is me, me, me, while Liam is about strengthening the colonies, learning more about those around him, and helping people.
Like people forget, I guess, that PeeBee is just as nasty to Vetra in the Nomad.
My issue with Liam is this.
He's a Crisis Management Specialist that basically just freaks the hell out whenever something bad happens. He's also operating on a flawed premise. Liam is basing his entire set of tactics on the idea that during a crisis, there's a place/materials that are not in crisis. He'd be great post-Tsunami, or after a terrorist attack, or that sort of thing, where there's still ultimately infrastructure and people both willing and able to help out. The problem is that right now, Heleus is one big Tire Fire and there's nothing that can stop that until (at the very least) the Kett are dealt with. But he hasn't realized that yet (if he will ever) so he's asking everyone to help with C, D, and E, except A and B are dealing with their own shit and it's not possible for them to do so. Which leads to Liam getting desperate, and making every possible bad decision there is under the guise of "helping". And sure, good intentions are nice, but that's what gets baked into the asphalt for Hell Avenue.
Plus he does shitty pushups.
As far as Nomad dialog, both him and Cora haven't shown up there the second I realized how to swap out my active squadmates.

Cora's fine, I'm doing my best not to hold her accountable for her terrible hair, but nothing really stands out. She's a good example of my feelings about all the characters just being amalgams of previous characters, in her case Ashley and Miranda. And while not being Jacob or Kaiden bland they don't really stand out save the scripted funny lines here and there (Liam's loyalty is meh except for two genuinely funny bits in it and I think that's what draws in the attention).
This is why I like Kallo the most probably, he feels distinct.

My hope for the sequel.
Is that we'll get continued exploration outside of the Heleus Cluster and more first contact. I would love for one of the new species to be insect-based. Maybe do one where they're not immediately belligerent, intentionally or accidentally, like the Rachni/Swarm/Arachnids.
Shields protect against projectiles, but personal mass effect fields aren't powerful enough to generate atmospheric insulation.
Well, they can't provide air, but they seem to work well enough otherwise given that Jack/Miranda/Liara only needed a breather mask when in space while the rest of your crew wore helmets.

That's not a biotics thing, Kasumi does the same. The game just wants you to accept that a breather mask is all you need in space.
Welp, that patch broke the game for me and a whole lot of people, because it fucked with the Visual C++ 2015 library. And EA/Bioware have been largely silent about the issue. Fun. I wanted to play MP today, but that's not going to happen.
I don't know if you're having the same exact issue I had. There seems to be several different things that the patch could have broken, so different people have different issues.
I don't suppose anyone else's game broke after the patch?
Edit:
Found a fix for the problem I was having. Posting it here in case anyone else is having this problem.
The problem I had after the patch is the game wouldn't run, and I'd get a dialogue box popping up saying something about the "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll" being missing.
The fix I found basically boiled down to these steps.
1) Open control panel and uninstall "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64)"
2) Go to windows update and set to never check for updates.
3) Restart
4) Go to the following link and d/l the version for your PC. In my case it was a "All supported x64-based versions of Windows 8.1", then run/install it.
5) Restart
6) Download/install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64), which you can get here.
7) Restart
8) Startup Andromeda
I tried yesterday, but the installation failed on step 4, so there was nothing I could do.
At 4 or 6? I don't know what to do about a failed installation for 4. If it was 6, it might be because you have a more current version of C++. I had the 2017 version after a windows update, which I had to uninstall so I could install the 2015 version. The game won't run without the 2015 version.

The way the doors are (no airlock) on Voeld, they must hate when the Pathfinder comes through the outpost.
The smooth, rail free bridge through the Tempest with a one deck fall underneath it makes me cringe every time.
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty. But I wouldn't put that path of calamity in an office much less a ship that routinely jostles around.
There's a mass effect field extending from the bridge to the walls, that's why you can't jump down that one, but you can jump over the railing in the cargo bay. /handwave

Technically you'd need some form of insulation/pressure garment on the head as well, but Peebee might be fine; we don't actually know how tough Asari skin is. Given they're kinda scaly and all. Or "mass effect field", since all you need is ~1/3atm of pressure or so, depending, and they should be able to handle that.
Otherwise, the futuristic skin-tight spacesuit is perfectly er... Suited.

The skin-tight spacesuit is fine, it's just, what about all the other orifices? That whole water boiling out of your eyes, eardrums rupturing thing seems pretty unpleasant, assuming everything else is taken care of by the other garments.
I guess that's when "Mass Effect Fields" solves all problems.
Honestly the weirdest part about the whole "face-mask breather" thing for those characters is that there's no reason for it? I mean it's not like Asari heads are that different from Human heads, they should fit roughly the same helmet. And if Kasumi is that much about her hood thing then do like they have for the female Quarian suits. Since she's a thief, it's not like she cares if people see her face.

Out of the game reason: it's so that the profile of each character remains the same. With helmets, all the human characters tend to look the same from anything beyond point-blank range.
