Just keep in mind that upgrading your armor can be very tricky and time-consuming without warping. Some armors need large numbers of specific rare components available only in very limited places. You shouldn't have any trouble upgrading the basic Hylian clothes, but if you want to max out the more specialized armor it's going to take a very long time.
On the flip side, you totally want the rank 2 upgrades for nearly every armor set, because pretty much all of them grant something that's fun-enhancing.
Guardians are scary but it's so satisfying to kill them in 1-3 hits with a perfect parry.
That's good too ... but I love to shoot them in the eye ... then chop off their legs ... shoot them in the eye again ... and then eviscerate them ... and that's me playing nice.
I imagine in their little logic brains going, hero spotted, preparing to fire death lazer, tracking, charging, malfunction, optical unit damaged, repairing optical unit, leg damaged, calculating safe distance for lazer, another leg damaged, calculating ... , another leg damaged, calcu..., another leg damaged, retreat, acquire safe lazer firing distance, assessing threat, another leg damaged, cal..., another leg damaged, performing damage assessment, re-prioritizing survival, searching for target, hero spotted, preparing..., optical unit damaged, body damage, report, body damage, report, critical energy level reached, core exploding, ... .. ... and then sweet sweet guardian parts.
I got the Fierce deity sword to drop from my Amiibo today and i don't want to use it because it's rare but it's like way more powerful then anything else i have.
Pro tip for saving weapons: if you're on a Lynel's back, those hits cost 0 durability to your weapon. Pause and swap to your biggest damage weapon for those times.
Never been able to get onto a Lynel's back successfully. Feel like I'm missing something or some window.
Whenever they rear back, roar, and prepare to slam their weapon into the ground is a perfect shot to shoot them in the head with an arrow. Then just run up to them when they're stunned.
There are other, more riskier moments to headshot them. But the slam attack is the safest.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Is it a short window? I've been able to headshot them, but by the time I get around the side/back they recover.
It's shortish. Another time to stun them is shooting them in the mouth when they charge up for the fireball shots. That only takes a single arrow no matter how many it usually takes to stun them with headshots.
I find that any time i try to get fancy and go for a head shot on them it gets me killed your best bet in my experience is to get all up in their face and dodge for flurry rush's just make sure you watch out the Blue ones do this roar explosion shockwave.
More methods:
If you paraglide onto their back without them noticing, you can do the back attack.
If you headshot them before they've alerted, you will stun them and you can do the back attack.
Paraglide -> time slow headshot is a fairly safe and reliable way of stunning them, and often they will make big patches of fire that will give you the updraft... or you can do this when they are unawares... or you can dump bundles of wood around the combat area to ensure there will be updrafts... or....
Headshoting them becomes easier with experience and I think is the best way to start racking up damage (with the added aforementioned benefit of not using up your weapon durability).
Directly after one of their attacks tends to be the best timing for it, or when they roar upon initially siting you. Anytime a Lynel is about to do his fireball attack is also a perfect opportunity for a headshot. If you miss run around to evade the attacks and then there is still a window in which you can hit him after the third fireball. Also, you can headshot a Lynel from behind. So if one of them does one of those charge attacks there you have to backflip to evade them, and as you turn they are still facing away from you, you can aim where you normally would only at the back of their head and still stun them.
Edit: You also want to be facing the "horse" half of the Lynel in order to mount easiest. Using one of their own bows also makes stunning them much easier since you have a bit of a shotgun blast effect.
Yeah, multishot bow at a charging Lynel tended to work best for me from memory.
Also made me feel badass.

Charge the Lynel on horseback then jump off and draw your bow in mid-air to slow time and shoot them in the head. Mount the Lynel and smack them around until they buck you off. When the Lynel bucks you off you will be popped up into the air momentarily. Pull out your bow in mid air to slow time again and shoot them in the back of the head. It's possible to stun them again, rinse and repeat.
Stasis+ is great if you have trouble getting headshots, or trouble reaching them in time to climb on when they've been stunned.
Let them charge, stasis, headshot, then sprint at them so you're right there when the stasis wears off and they go down.
Lvl 233 Ganondorf with a lvl 4 double elemental sword, and a double bombos fairy. I am death, inevitable and merciless. Line up your heroes, three deep, so that I may slay them with one shot and take your keep.
But seriously, killing four dark links in one swipe is nuts.

Part of the fun of this thread is confusing BotW comments with HW comments. I was like, WTF you can play OP Ganon in BotW?!

I've got Link at lvl 137, everyone else at around 50, and I just finished getting everyone's L3 weapons.
But I've managed to cut across Lorule with lvl50 characters, so I'm betting I can clean this up without having to grind too many levels out.

To be perfectly honest, I actually find it very, very frustrating. Personally, I wish we had two separate threads for these games, but that idea was floated when HW came out and everyone decided to keep to one thread, so that's that I suppose.
Neither thread would get make action if we split them, and thread has slowed down considerably already. I'd say after this one hits 100 we should just make a Zelda thread.

This thread (or incarnations thereof) defaults to a general Zelda thread whenever there's a gulf between releases anyway. HW dropping about a year after BotW is an anomaly, if anything.
I just killed myself trying to break a barrel because i stabbed my metal amiibo chest with a thunder spear and the resulting shock knocked me down which then caused me to roll down a hill and onto a campfire.
Picked a place to go to at random for my fifth map area to finish. Went to woodlands
MASTER SWORD! Kind of cheesy that it did the whole "Oh you're about to die claiming this weapon " fake out where it stopped when i only had 25% of a heart left.

Not sure if it always does that, but if you don't have enough health it can in fact kill you.

I one put like 5 skulls on Hyrule Castle after my first experience getting close to it.

There is another Lynel even tougher than that out there too. You definitely know it when you run into him.
