Okay I have stalled after the 2nd gym. I'm just having fun running around doing random shit. What can I do with the spheres that I dig up in the underground? My bag is full and I don't know what to do with them except for buying traps.
Bury them in the ground and they'll grow. If you bury two or more of the same kind in the same spot, they'll get bigger, too. You can buy crap for your secret base, like pokedolls and couches and stuff. There are a few merchants out there, and they all sell different crap.
I think someone said something about using the spheres above ground, but I didn't read that too carefully.

along those line, this is the first time I've bothered to EV train, I've got the macho brace and the pokerus so I'll most likely be taking that route for the training. One of my fears is getting an EP towards a stat I don't want, is the best strategy to...
1. figure out what I should be fighting
2. go to an area of grass that has is

Correct. Keeping a higher level pokemon with a smoke ball equipped in the party is a good idea. Since the brace kills your speed, you may not be able to flee from some fights to avoid EVs so you'll have to switch to another one.

Shinies are really getting on my nerves, seen one ever and it was in safari zone and ran away. Damn you Quagasar! I know its 1/8000 but is that more common than gold? Between me and my brother we had 500 hours in Gold/silver and never even saw a shiny besides Gyrados.

as i understand it you need to gain exp (be it by switching/fighting/expshare) to gain ev.
