All this talk about puzzle games makes me want to jump back into Mechanarium and give it an honest run, instead of I'm-on-a-plane-and-need-something-to-distract-me-until-I-get-tired.
Also, question about any of the XCells games: are any of them something a 2nd grader (age 8) can get decently far into? She's just learning the concept of multiplication; so if I have to take over at some point, that's fine. And if it's good enough, she can come back to it next year after she gets further into multiplication. [and I may or may not go through some of these just for my own entertainment]
She's not a savant, but she is getting pretty good at her numbers.

I went through Hexcells on Sunday and about half of Hexcells Infinite yesterday (thanks again @Berylline!) and with these earlier ones it mostly comes down to counting. I did hit some later puzzles where there was a bit of subtraction to figure stuff out but that was about as complex as it got. They're also pretty forgiving, mistakes will take away from a point total but other than that don't really hurt so you can get away with guessing if you get stuck. I'm always bad at figuring out age appropriateness but the early ones seem like they'd be fine for a 2nd grader to me.

I think they might be a little brain-bendy for a 2nd grader, but the first two game families (Hexcells and Squarecells) don't require math, just logic. The latest, Crosscells, requires actual arithmetic.

Let it be known that @CorriganX either loves the Sastasha dungeon in FF14 or he's under a mystical curse because literally every time I group with him to do the Roulette dungeon it always comes out to Sastasha.

Sorry, Elvenshae, I took the family out into the wilderness away from Internets. Did you get some playtime in? How did it go?
Yeah! I played for about two hours and made scads of money and a had a great time. The Brewster Buffalo continues to be a fun aircraft to fly, though it's far from the best at any particular aspect.
Unfortunately, it was a solo effort. I'm going to blame late notice.
But, that's okay, because I ambushed @Drake last night and made him let me play Soviet Stronk tanks with him, and even accidentally uptiered him for one match, causing him to fight some more advanced tanks in his starter peashooters.
I'm about to shut it off because I'm at work, but if any of you were on the fence about Everspace, Cohh is doing a Twitch stream of a blind run (he's still in the early game) and some of the game devs are in chat.
The chat has ~12k people, though, so chat stream looks like Star Wars crawl at 16x.
And, yes, there is more FTL to this than I originally thought, so the game has jumped up a few rungs on my wishlist. This may be the spacesim I've been waiting for since Freespace 2(!)

All this talk of puzzle games has inspired me to install The Talos Principle as I hear it's quite the ripper
I completed Talos Principle (though I admit I used a clue guide for star locations), but I legit don't even know what to do with some of the puzzles in The Witness, I swear.

Ol' George was really into the whole duality thing, so he'd disagree.

The light and dark powers thing wasn't quite a big thing at first though. Luke force chokes some dudes in ROTJ after all. It really felt like stuff about the Force was being made up as he went along.
IIRC, Luke force choking people was supposed to set up how Luke was in danger of falling to the Dark Side, as seen later in the film.

Yeah it was like three or four rounds in arcade tank battles of me just getting absolutely clobbered.
But it's totally ok because it just sharpened me up for the next set of matches after @Elvenshae logged out. I placed about midway on my team in the first one and in the second one I was busting tanks left and right. I actually got a squadmate that wasn't intent on playing Friendly Fire Bumper Tanks and we found a nice position on an avenue in the Lost Factory map. We managed to stop a pretty big advance of tanks and that shot me up to 2nd place on my team. It's a pretty fun game.
Did my first Air Battle too and it went way better than I expected. I'll definitely be flying more planes too. War Thunder is a pretty fun game.
Hmm. ~6 bucks seems like an acceptable price for Headlander and Small Radios Big Televisions.
12 bucks is also probably worth it for GG/FF2? Not sure. From what I hear, FF2 is much more of a game this time, but that's good and bad. It requires much more old games literacy than I have.
Westerado has been on my radar since the last bundle it was in. Nothing else stands out to me.
Kind of funny seeing Glittermitten Grove and Frog Fractions 2 listed in that bundle.
Headlander looks kinda neat. Rain World looks really nice, but seems too punishing for me to enjoy. I already own Volgarr and I don't think it's my thing. Duck Game isn't really for me either unless I suddenly get a regular group of friends coming over to play couch vs. games with. I don't know anything about the rest of the games.

See, and my understanding was that while forceful, his chocking of the Gamoreans was restrained to removing the obstacle from his path, not for the purposes of killing or hurting them simply to hurt them.
Force powers seemed to me to be less black and white in the films, but that can be difficult to balance in a game.

Finally got around to beating Victor Vran and it was a bunch of fun, thanks again to @JMan711
It's a fun ARPG with some super light platforming, that is easy to play with a controller and has a a nice amount (but pretty light so even I could under stand it) customization as you pick up new weapons with sets of abilities, demon powers (spells that require overdrive to cast), potions, bombs, destiny cards (passive buffs) and outfits (influences stats/overdrive meter) to make Victor into the death wielder you desire. You'll level up which will increase your health, destiny points (needed to equip higher level destiny cards), destiny slots, and other character progression while also providing a reward to help mitigate RNGness.
I was going for a critical build with a scythe and shotgun as proper timing can guarantee critical hits adding an interesting level of skill along with the hectic combat. If that was a sort of atypical rogue build then I could see how to make a mage or warrior as well. You can tweak the difficulty by using a series of hexes that can be turned on and off any time during the game (though they need to be unlocked first) so you can have a nice casual experience (there is even a casual mode I did not try) or brutally hard enemies that the stronger ones were one-shoting me. The bosses can offer a nice set of challenges as well and since your potions have a cooldown you can't just go in and spam potions though vampirism infused weapons (+hp on hit) can be pretty godly/down right necessary later on.
Combat can be hectic but fun as you use various weapons and their specific abilities to battle the demonic and undead invaders of Zagoravia. Weapons feel satisfying and the enemies come with the RNG-ness of varying properties on the champions and minions such as resistant to ranged damage, etc. There are also a number of challenges you can perform for rewards of loot, gold, or experience which can help you vary your playstyle or give you an extra hoop to jump through. The map will tell you the progress on such challenges and it's easy to restart levels or vary difficulty as things go. There was no penalty for death other than going back to the start of the level/checkpoint but if you die to the boss it will restart the whole fight which is fine.
In the end my playthrough lasted about 11.5 hours having done some challenges in the beginning but deciding to just focus on the main story towards the end. More challenges await after the end though the levels don't appear to be randomized so it may lack the long term appeal of other games like Diablo. Still a super solid ARPG I suggest you check out. I never did get to try the multiplayer so that could be fun to do.
Only thing I could see people being turned off is being forced to play as Victor, there is no female hunter option, and is voiced by Doug Cockle--the same guy and delivery as Geralt from the Witcher series.

Well, that's Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords down. As usually happens, when I quit playing all of those years ago, I was maybe 2 hours away from finishing it. It was nice to finally finish it, and the last few boss battles were all pretty well done. It's a shame the game couldn't get the extra time it needed. The game was really trying hard to set up another sequel. Does any of that stuff get resolved in SWTOR? I might have to pick it up again.
Dragon Age: Origins down (game #72 for 2017). My first impressions of the game were not kind, so I'm glad that several folks in the thread encouraged me to give it more of a go.
I thought that it was pretty good, mostly because the other people you had hanging around with you were chock full of personality and the world felt more grounded than your average Tolkien knock-off.
Also I enjoyed throwing Alister to the wolves on every possible occasion just to watch him stammer. I may be a little cruel. Still, he wound up with a hot wife and a cushy job at the end.
Absolutely did NOT get on with the combat system. Fortunately, on easy, my companions could win most of the battles without me doing too much work. I can't fathom the amount of patience it would take if I was constantly pausing and switching between characters to micromanage them.
I don't think I'll be diving into the sequels. There are too many epic RPGs in the world and I haven't heard fabulous things about either.
Micromanaging fights in Dragon Age is basically a question of throwing as many mages as you can in a party and then freezing everything so it can't hit back or similar cheese. Not a lot of thought given to balance in the game.

Spoilered, just in case
I'm talking more about the True Sith and the war they're pushing, where Revan went to fight them. Supposedly they're responsible for everything that happened in the first 2 games, or something like that. Kreia can be hard to follow.
If the answer to any problem is to use more mages, I am totally okay with it.
I have an ingenious strategy to supply cheap magic weapons to entire armies. All you really need are large weapons, duct tape, and wizards who flunked out of school. Sorcerors will also do in a pinch.

The SWTOR lore videos basically cover most of this. It's kind of the premise for the whole game but in a less interesting way than what was being set up.

So some of you might already know, but Windward, the game that I basically got for a dollar just because it came with another game I really wanted, is actually pretty awesome. It's basically a sailing lite mmo/rpg. You pick a faction that specializes in different things like fighting, trading, etc. and sail around doing quests, buying items and selling them for profit, fighting pirates with other people, and then using the money to buy upgrades for your ship. It's laid out like a typical RPG where you equip a character, except instead of equipping a helm or a sword, you're equipping a new sail, or crew, or captain. It has also has a skill tree that you can put points into to improve things like your hull or speed. It's super chill and laid back. I found a server last night with around 80 people and we all just sailed around doing quests and trading loot for that sweet gold and xp. Very small community, but everyone was really friendly and helpful. I lost an hour to it last night and went to bed late because of this game. Excited to play some more.
Makes me wonder how many of these humble bundle games I have that I'd enjoy, but never tried just because I didn't know anything about them.

It's hard when there are just soooooo many games.
It's partly the reason I like to write up reviews for games I've enjoyed because someone else might be interested in it but might not otherwise heard of/paid attention to it. Cause there's just soooo many dang games out there.

Origins was easily my favourite in the series, despite its flaws. That said, I do remember a whole lot of running backwards and launching spell after spell until I get a better handle on the battle system. I'm 90%, well 80% sure that Yakety Sax was the feature song on the DA:O soundtrack.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

I did warrior (PC) + warrior (Slab McBeefcake) + rogue (Undefinable Accent Hottie) + mage (Slightly Judgmental Mom) and did ok, I set everyone to use a big poultice at 25% life or a small at 50% and Mom did a lot of the healing besides.
Rocky The Golem, Obligatory Dwarf, Not-Orlando-Bloom and the Wicked Witch of the West all stayed in the camp most of the time. I think I missed a couple companions.

The season pass was on a very long curve in terms of sale price, so yeah, it'll probably be a long time before GOTY gets any cheaper than this. Having finally started the DLC a couple days ago, though, it's an excellent game worth every penny, even if the horse has catastrophic brain damage.
E: Oh, and my main game run took 120 hours. I think people have said the second and final DLC is like, up to 40 hours by itself.

Force powers seemed to me to be less black and white in the films, but that can be difficult to balance in a game.
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
Micromanaging fights in Dragon Age is basically a question of throwing as many mages as you can in a party and then freezing everything so it can't hit back or similar cheese. Not a lot of thought given to balance in the game.

There are missions involving Revan and/or The Exile. But the game is not about them.
Spoilered, just in case

I have an ingenious strategy to supply cheap magic weapons to entire armies. All you really need are large weapons, duct tape, and wizards who flunked out of school. Sorcerors will also do in a pinch.
The SWTOR lore videos basically cover most of this. It's kind of the premise for the whole game but in a less interesting way than what was being set up.
The Revan novel fleshes it out pretty well. Not sure if it's a recon, but it does or stuff in a new light.

If you ever need to talk to someone, feel free to message me. Yes, that includes you.

I'm sorry, but your Purchase Justification form must be filled out in triplicate or include at least three references.
It's very easy to put 200 hours into The Witcher 3.
It's also 100% worth the current price.
