So, thanks to @Iolo, I got to play through Near Death tonight. It reminded me a lot of The Martian, in that you are alone in an environment that wants to kill you and your only resources are what you can salvage from a ruined Antarctic base and another person on the far side of a teletype connection. You need to manage your warmth, find things to craft into survival tools, and figure out just how you're going to get home.
It took a touch under three hours to go from opening to end credits, which is a perfect length - I finished it in a single sitting and only stayed up until 4 AM in the process, if it had been any longer I could have gotten into some real trouble because I would not have wanted to stop.
As a side bonus, I played through it on a 21" iMac with integrated graphics - not exactly a powerhouse - and performance was pretty good. I suspect it should run on just about anything.
Seriously recommended.
Huh. I am sorta internet acquainted with someone who I think worked on that game, but I had no idea it was a game with an actual ending. I figured it was just another survival type game, where even the good/interesting one of those like The Long Dark don't really have endings.
@Antoshka didn't let up with a gift of The Sexy Brutale! Apparently it took four attempts for it to get past the regional restriction barrier. I had no idea you could be force it! This changes things! Thanks!
You can force games past the restriction? That seems...dubious.
I've been on an indie kick as of late (besides picking up Mordor) but see that Just Cause 2 is something like 3 bucks? I've heard it's the best of the series, the story is kind of eh but it's a crazy fun open world, does this sound about right?
Edit: I mean Yahtzee likes it and that guy seems to hate everything so how bad could it be?
Yes, JC2 is amazing, and it probably still looks really good too. And yeah, the story is real dumb, but it seems to embrace its dumbness. Here's an old Giant Bomb quick look of it:
*snip*
Awesome thank you! I'll snag it, play it and by the time I'm done with it I'm sure 3 will be even cheaper since stabbity style recommends it too.
EDIT: Removed the video from the quote, didn't realize it was so huge on desktop as mobile it's small.

Yeah, I'm waiting for 3 to drop to even cheaper since I'm not planning on playing it anytime soon. On the other hand, apparently it's not a great PC port? The Steam reviews are pretty mixed.

Yea, have been holding off as well because of those mixed reviews. Ah well JC2 will keep me occupied.

I played a TON of 3 on PC, I think it plays just fine. Older CPU, too (though I do have a 1070).
There was a steam sig here. It's gone now.

It'd probably play fine on mine too, then. Got my PC put together back in November and I've got a 1060. Arkham Knight played fine for me too, aside from a few fps drops.
I succumbed to my first death in Shadow of Mordor (Named Archer Orc sniped me from behind a wall of orcs) and I can certainly see where the praise for this game comes from. The combat feels fluid (still getting used to the controls, though) and you feel like a badass taking down a half dozen orcs without breaking a sweat.
I haven't played it yet, but I have the game. The more you guys talk about the gameplay, I can certainly see the multiple parallels that LOTR had to WWI; which is where Tolkein is said to have gotten his "inspiration" for the tale.

Awesome. I said to hell with it and just got the bundle that has 1,2,3 and all DLC.
All this Mordor talk, I need to get that installed, will have to be an overnight download on my crap internet.. Is game ADD a thing because I swear steam has given it to me.

Some advice... You should probably do the DLC mission in #3 to get the Bavarium Wingsuit either ASAP, or not at all, depending on your preference for the default traversal of mostly parachute and grappling hook. The Bavarium wingsuit soooooort of breaks traversal over its knee. In the best possible way:
Does anyone have experience with buying Steam cards from Amazon? I picked one up last night along with a 360 wireless controller, and today the order says that the card is being sent with the controller.
If you read the description, though, it says:
-You will receive your Steam Wallet Code on your email registered with us.
-If you already have Steam, go to 'Redeem Steam Wallet Code' in the Games menu.
-Enter the Steam Wallet Code from your email and follow instructions.
-The funds will be added to your account and be ready for use.
Comments seem to imply it's a physical card; which is fine, it's just frustrating (for the record, I had a credit balance on Amazon I decided to "convert" to Steam for teh gamez)
You can force games past the restriction? That seems...dubious.
To my knowledge, you can't. It was the fourth item on @Big Classy's wishlist I'd tried. Unfortunately, the restrictions remain as irritating as ever. Interestingly, they also don't seem to be always bidirectional, as attempting to send the same game received still hit the error.

Been dabblin' in lots of different smaller games lately, some picked up for cheap in the sale:
Steamworld Heist continues to be magnificient. XCOM lite (very lite) with a dash of skill based shooting added in, and with charming art to boot! Grabbed the DLC to try out once I finish the main campaign.
Squarecells. I loved both Hexcells games, so naturally I snagged this. It's Picross with a few extra rules thrown in. It doesn't feel quite as elegant as Hexcells, I find that in too many of the puzzles I'm having to take several more steps that I should have to work out if a move is valid. But it's still some damn fine logic puzzlin'
The Black Watchmen. Back in the 00's I was obsessed with online mystery games like The Stone and not pron. They were essentially the precursors to ARG's as we know them today. Well, this game is basically one of those (it seems they have more ARG-like stuff added during a 'season', but currently there is no fun phone/real world stuff going on). There's nothing here that couldn't just be done on a website since they are just showing images/videos/PDFs, and in fact you'll end up visiting a lot of sites related to the game to get answers, but it involves digging up key phrases/clues/cracking codes with a global conspiracy story sprinked in. The production swings from great to poor (some of the voice acting is laughable unfortunately), but all in all it's bloody great so far.
Ellipsis. Based on the rec's in this thread I thought I'd fine this up since I had it already. It's good, but I think I need a better mouse to play it properly, since mine isn't in the best of nick. I've no idea how you are meant to get within the 5-star time limit for some of these levels. I'm probably just getting old.

Sounds like a job for science!
IIRC it's definitely not bidirectional; if you can get it cheaper than your friend can, they don't mind your friend buying YOU a copy. You just can't get your friend a cheap copy. Because money.
For anyone who wants to complete a badge. I have at least 4 of each summer sale card with 1 exception. I can do 1 for 1 trades as long as I can at least still craft a level 1 badge this sale.
So contemplating picking up Dishonered 2, Surge and Valdis
Few questions for those who have experience with any of these games:
Dishonored - Is this all Stealth? Is their a sense of character progression?
Surge - I understand game is fairly short for this genre, does it have replayability and is NG+ increasing in difficulty?
Valdis Story- This is that game I look at all the time and just never made the leap. So few more on this one
- Is it class based?
- What is approximate length?
- Does it have NG+ or a lot of post game content?
- Is their a wide variety in gear or is it pretty straight forward in terms on how you gear your character?
- Is loot random drops and is their different rarity associated with such gear?

Hello, Steam thread! It is, once again, my birthday. This week isn't as depressing as last year's was, but 2017 has been a crazy ride so far, hasn't it? To celebrate that we've managed to reach the halfway point, I'm going to be throwing random keys into the thread for the next 24 hours.
First up, my favourite robot shooting and teammate flirting simulator, Binary Domain!
I....think I accidentally stumbled upon a way to get free valvebux. I kinda want to test it out just to see, but I don't want to have my account lost....and I'm not sure how best to report this thing.

Armello has a big bundle on sale. I keep looking at Armello, but I can't decide whether to go for it or not. People complain about the DLC being OP, though I guess that doesn't matter if you get the bundle. How much staying power does it have?
