One presumes they'd enjoy getting more money, and having their customers not be mad all the time because they don't make enough of anything they produce for the first several months.
And yes, the switch has expandable storage. Any game that comes out that requires it is gonna be met with some scorn.
They should overproduce as a big "fuck you" to scalpers. I know it won't ever happen, but if I walked into the store and saw giant crates of these things I would be so very happy.
I think people are largely over the expanded memory on card at this point. Its in phones, other handheld games systems, heck even mainline consoles for awhile. I know it doesnt bother me at all anymore. Just buy the SD card and play games.
And at some point I will be playing these games on my switch anyway so it doesnt matter in the end. I can play many of them already on my new 3DS and Vita.
They got their money already with the SNES classic. And that I am a working man and not a bot of a scalper makes me sad.
The Switch can use microSDXC well over 64gigs.
I think he meant the cartridges themselves. At one point they were said to go up to 32 gig on the high end, but that's not a hard and fast limit, 64 gig cards should be possible. Every console with cartridges has seen an increase over time in that respect.
They could do a hybrid thing, install of 20 gigs to go along with the card. Sort of like how Xenoblade X on Wii U had free downloads from the shop that were equivalent to an install to improve graphics and reduce load times.

Expandable SD card storage in phones is actually fairly rare for most of the high end stuff. iPhones have never allowed that, for instance.
I won't be buying one for the switch and if something requires one, I'm probably just not going to play it on the switch. I still think the built in storage space is ludicrously small and have been buying games physically if possible. (In fact, we traded in Mario Kart because with nothing to unlock and lots of other games to play, it wasn't seeing much playtime)
Its not rare though. Yeah apple doesnt put it in their stuff but apple is anti consumer. Got people believing they dont need expandable storage, or replaceable batteries or headphone jacks.

Pretty sure it is. Google's phones don't have them, iPhones which are a huge portion of the market don't have them. Looks like Samsung's do, so that's a good chunk. But it's definitely not a feature I'd call common. I have never had a smartphone with an SD card slot.
But hey, I'll just stick with physical. If something is a download only too big for the internal memory, I won't be buying that on Switch.

I've never had a phone without an SD card slot. You can imagine if you're an Android phone user why you could say that it's not rare that you can buy an SD card to upgrade the storage.

It's been not a thing in my phones.
Some lines have it, sure. But I would absolutely not call it a common feature and it's absolutely one that's going away. Could be wrong of course, but I can't find anything discussing the overall prevalence of them.
Regardless of phones, it's not something I really find acceptable on the switch in lieu of reasonable built in storage space. I don't want to spend more money so I can then have more space to spend more money. Sounds like it's not an issue if FFXV gets cut into downloadable episodes though.
Although I didn't think FFXV was particularly great anyway, so I'm surprised to see it get so many companion pieces and ports to other places. I guess because they worked on it so long they gotta get as much out of it as they can?
Will be interesting to see how they handle inflating game sizes in as we go forward.
edit: Cameras are the only thing I know people regularly still buy SD cards for.
The other thing is, I think people are well used to buying expanded storage for all their consoles in general now. I've been saying this for a while, 500 gig is not enough if developers are going to insist on 50+ gigs per game. That is space for 10 games. How can anyone live in the all-digital future with room for 10 games in the fridge and data caps for redownloading them?
I definitely think that we'll get to a point where SD card storage will be gone in phones. They've already removed the headphone jack and the ability to remove the battery. It's the next logical progression since it forces people to pay $100 more for the "double the storage space" version.

I don't know why phone space isn't increasing in line with how actual drive space has increased. Why do iphones top out at 256 gigs? Aren't there still Androids that max out at 64 gigs?

Different kind of tech and architecture. SSDs haven't increased in capacity at the same degree traditional hard drives had either.
So did arms just die on the vine or what? It was all Esports this and competitive that. Now nothing?
They just announced a new character and stage, with more coming down the line I believe, free DLC. Dataminers found like 20 other characters and stages or something?
Pretty much every phone I've ever had has had an SD card slot with a 128-256GB card in there. It's actually a deal breaker for me and I absolutely will not buy a phone without it unless every single phone stops having it. I've also used expandable storage on pretty much every Nintendo console I've owned that allows it because the freedom of not having to clutter up my room with game cases is a godsend, and it's especially great for portable of not having to go "where the heck did I leave that tiny game cartridge this time?" which was a big problem back when I had the DS. Went digital and never looked back. Plus better loading speeds in many cases (especially anything using disc media) is bonus.
Getting a Switch in Japan makes our trouble look like a day in the park by comparison. Some retailers creating a lottery for stock so even if you got to a store that had them you had to get in a draw.
Well they are changing things up a bit for Japan. A "gauranteed" preorder of a Switch. You preorder by the date and you will get one when it is made. So perhaps this sentiment shows some change in their policies going forward.

I've said it before, but it's absolutely nutty the Switch is such a big success in Japan when sales of both consoles and portables had been drying up over this generation.
a) If nba2k is legit on the switch.
b) If we can convince 2k to make a switch version of the new XCom2 and expansion, I would be very very happy.
So did arms just die on the vine or what? It was all Esports this and competitive that. Now nothing?
They did put xcom 1 on the Vita, soooo....
It was minorly watered down, right? Or was that the iOS versions...
I'd love Borderlands 1/2 for the Switch. The Vita version skipped the Tiny Tina DLC which was an unforgivable sin.
I know there's a vocal amount of people that don't want all these ports on the Switch, but yeah, give me all the console and PC games I liked from the last 10 years and make them handheld, I'm on board.

I would buy Assassin's Creed 1-Black Flag on the Switch.
I would buy Mass Effect Trilogy on the switch.
I would buy the Batman games on the switch.
I would buy Bioshock 1-Infinite on the switch.
I don't care if they are older titles; there has never been a good way to play full-fat games from the previous gen in high quality on the go, ands publishers love milking older titles for more money, so this seems like an easy fit.

Yeah, when basically the best solutions up to now have been remoting in to a real PC elsewhere? And you had that lag and artifacting and reliance on the network wherever you are? Having it on the device natively is great.
Plus, the absolutely tiny game cards mean the library is easily portable. I have a container about the size of a wallet that can store more than 4 times my current collection.

I was watching the new AVGN about Game Boy accessories and got to this hulking monstrosity and was like "oh man neat" when they showed it had cartridge storage space in the back. Made me think of a Switch with a little door somewhere for game storage.
If you were holding back on Overcooked because of FPS issues I'd say they were overblown. We're on world 4 and other than the controls being finicky at times we haven't noticed any issues.

Or a really good laptop. But that's mostly just "portable desktop" as you need a table to set up on, a mouse, etc.
So I bought Overcooked this weekend.
What I especially liked is that you really need to work out a system on each level: who's doing what and when, what needs to be called out, etc. You can't just randomly pick tasks and expect to three star most levels.
As someone who worked in restaurants, front and back-of-house, for 12 years, I can say that playing Overcooked co-op is exactly what it's like.
At the beginning of your shift (a level) you're all optimistic and ready to go, orders come in a bit slowly and you're grooving, plating your food, people are happy and then HOLY FUCK WHERE DID ALL THESE PEOPLE COME FROM I HATE MY JOB JUST CLOSE THIS PLACE DOWN PLEASE!

Man, who does that? Who wakes up one day and says to them self "I'm gonna build the most efficient method possible to prevent people from getting what they want"?
