    Ok, wait, what?

I just did the events at the last big cutoff point for stuff. Pretty late in the game. Yes it was awesome and brings a lot of stuff together.

However I have a really minor...complaint? Thing I noticed, equipment-wise? I've searched online and I can't find any mention of it anywhere.
Prior to the battle (I just loaded my save) Fiora has 3 slot Jack Daggers equipped with Double Attack 5, Double Attack 4, and Attack Stability 5.

After the battle, Fiora now has 2 slot Jack Daggers with nothing in the slots.

It looks like I retained the gems. So I guess that's good.

Is this just because of the stuff with Meyneth and her weapons? The game randomly decided to have some verisimilitude that Fiora actually lost her weapons due to what happened? ...Why?

Are you sure it didn't just move your current gear to inventory and add a weapon so the rendering would show a specific thing?

I've not got to that part yet, but I do know that you do get Meyneth's Monado as a weapon skin, so I can only assume it's some weird weapon changing chicanery like you guess.

Nope, I just plain don't have a 3 slot Jack Daggers anymore. And it's not like I forgot and accidentally sold them or anything, I loaded the save from just before the battle to confirm what I had before.

Looking at my inventory just prior, I didn't actually have a 2 slot version of that weapon. Somehow they got downgraded to 2 slots and as a result popped the gems out of them.

I just replayed the fight to see what would happen. This time I equipped Murder Knives with one slot with nothing in them. And...after the battle I still had them equipped, and still owned the three slot Jack Daggers with full slots. So I have no idea what happened. I may have discovered a very weird edge case bug in the game?

Yikes... well, easy enough to just switch to something trash before that fight, I've been using Shulk/Reyn/Riki for this whole area. Monado Enchant maxed out is so much free damage.

If you aren't up to that point yet, I have a tip for a cool scene for you that you may or may not know about that is very easily missable.
When you have control of Melia by herself aboard Junks, go find Shulk and try to talk to him. You can also talk to the doctor. Depending on when you talk to her, she may tell you that she's leaving at midnight, which is your clue to set the time to midnight, and then talk to Shulk as Melia (multiple times). Cool scene. Big affinity boost between them too. Very short window to do this.

Is there any way to make that glaring red ENEMIES TOO STRONG? banner not show up? Yes, that guy flattened me twice. He has a yellow banner. I lost because of random bullshit and/or having a bad party configuration and/or the targeting system took my attempt to swap targets as a suggestion that Reyn ought to attack someone eighty yards away and aggroed half the map. I am aware of this, game. I signed up for it. I am enjoying every part of this experience except you repeatedly suggesting that I want to pour extra EXP on my guys just to win instead of thinking my approach through.

Edit: I've tried clicking through to the tutorial / whatever menu it is when the banner shows up and then backing out, and that didn't stop it.

I can barely find any level 80-something enemies. This is making grinding difficult.
I'm at level 81, and right at the end of Prison Island. I want to do all the quests before finishing the game, but everything I'm being asked for is inside a lvl 90+ enemy. I feel like I've skipped the area where the lvl 80 guys show up.
I found a couple of random enemies in Satorl Marsh, but is that it? It's going to take a lot of grinding to get through half a dozen levels like this.

PS. What's with the Other tab in the Collectapedia? I've filled out every other page.

Can always level down to fight things for full xp. There should be a hidden area in Tephra cave with good stuff to hit, there's enemies on the platforms over the lake on the leg that might be the right level... uh... it's been a while.

The Other tab is very specific trades done with very specific people across the game. Some require upgrading Colony 6 a lot to get those people there. It's basically something you wouldn't ever find on your own without googling it.

I think you're not trying hard enough. Go to the Marsh, there's a bunch of lv 80-85 mobs. You can also go to Eryth Sea which will have a lot of high level Telethia running around. If that fails, Valak Peak has lv 97-99 mobs next to where the 1st and 5th super boss spawn.

    Like others said.
    Tephra cave
    Eryth Sea
    Alcomoth
And a few scattered high level monsters in remote areas across many maps or at night.

  • klemmingklemming Registered User regular
I'm trying those areas, but aside from a scattering of 85s in the marsh, all I'm finding are 90+ which slaughter me on sight.
Tephra cave has a straight jump to 90 for most of them. Okay there are a few baby spiders I could manage, if they weren't surrounded by their parents who will immediately aggro.

It's making some of these quests a little weird. Hey, we want these bits of monsters to make friendship bracelets, can you go and kill some? They're only strong enough to fight the final boss and win.

Hunt unique monsters of that level for arts books, try the ether team and hunt red monsters, drop level and do some quests...

It is weird that there doesn't seem to be an area dedicated to level 85 monsters. It seems to go from high 70s directly to 90s.

I did just find that in the small offshoot cave south of windy cave there's a unique level 75 and about 5 massive Pandora Pods that release level 80 Envy Gogols, so that's something.

Yeah, it looks like the best option there is some parts of the marsh at night. Soter Ruins apparently has a bunch of low 80s Gogol, plus all the birds everywhere.

Otherwise, gem a ton of agility and shit in and just fight 90s anyways.

Ah, I think I went there too early in order to snoop around and it didn't register other than "nope way too high still."

Once banked XP for Expert Mode hits 99 it doesn't matter anyway, then you can just adjust your level as you see fit. No point in struggle grinding all the way.

Ok actually I just gave in. I got to level 77 legitimately without abusing Expert Mode and have been saving up the bonus XP from it for the whole game, and I just cashed it in to level everyone to 85.

And it feels perfect. It feels like this is exactly where I was intended to be at this point in the game. I can now manage various endgame areas just barely and do quests.

It doesn't feel like I cheated to suddenly make the game too easy, it feels like I skipped hours of grinding for no reason. I don't think there's any content I skipped past (and if I had, I could just downlevel again).

    Highly recommend this.

I've been cashing in Expert mode a little lately. Dealing with a boss that has a red bar after clearing out every single quest and killing every UM for three zones straight... I'm not dealing with that miss rate. I've still got a healthy 4-5 levels banked (which would put me at 74 or so), but I have a couple areas left of the story plus all the endgame quests just opened up. Plus a lot of Colony 6 reconstruction (I'm only at 3/3/2/2 there and could easily hit 4 across the board with a bit of work now... need to look up trades for some things).

And I've started finding the quests for people's final skill trees... though I know Shulk's is a bit of a pain.

Seems like I'm missing something on expert mode here.

I thought all it did was turn off your character leveling up. XP is still earned and stored the normal way, but its up to you what you want to set your character's level as, as long as they have enough XP.

Don't you have to be "cashing in" constantly just to keep pace with the mobs, since you won't level *at all* otherwise? Why is there such a thing as "bonus" or "legitimate" or "abuse?"

Every single exp gain except for straight up killing monsters is put into the pool. So quest exp, exp for discovering landmarks, exp for completing achievements, and maybe a few others I'm forgetting. You'll still level up from the monster exp. And despite having turned on expert mode at the start, never using the pool once, and doing all available quests, I've managed to keep on pace with monsters, just by the killing exp alone. If you don't do many quests and just don't fight monsters much at all, it's possible you'll be behind the curve at which point you'll probably have to start using the pool.

If this is true then I suppose I've misunderstood how it worked for the whole game and my post above was wrong. The tutorials do say that it denies those sources of XP for later use. I turned it on at the very start and left it on, and toggled it on and off a few times and didn't notice much difference. I guess turning it off will re-enable XP from landmarks etc., but any previously earned XP that you left unused just sits there and waits for you to turn it back on and claim it.

That does make more sense as a mode than what I was assuming. That would also explain why I felt like the game wasn't overleveling me for doing all the quests and such. It gives a more even experience throughout having it on.

You forgot to mention that keeping your level within the monster level range doesn't nerf your SP gain which makes mastering skill trees WAY faster. 10 sp vs 1 sp is a huge difference.

    Welp, final dungeon time.
I just murdered my way through the Bionis Interior on the Speed Shift setup. Love that basically everything it needs is from shops. Chain attacks fill so stupidly fast when you're scoring 2-3 crits per second, which I can then loop Speed Shift>Berserk>Hero Time>Drones>Sword Drive. Maintain everyone's powerful buffs and deal metric tons of damage. Or topple lock with Final Cross>Wild Down>Roly Poly to stack up several seconds worth... and then talent art into sword drive because why not?

Also, I forgot how easy Shulk's final skill tree is in that there's no fighting whatsoever for the quest, unlike I think literally everyone else facing off with 85+ uniques.

"Hey Reyn, we want to make some friendship bracelets. Could you go and get these parts from monsters that are actually strong enough to kill God?"

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

You're probably already past this hurdle, but while I was scouting out Alcamoth, I saw that the smaller Telethia in there were mostly level 85. That's in striking range of 81.

Ok! I didn't realize I had killed so many superbosses already. Also man Burst Symbol and Critical Symbol chain attacks are so broken. Now I have to increase a bunch of Fire Mastery blades for the last one I'm missing and then Torna!

I got Dahlia really early in my XC2 playthrough, and she is a monster in chain attacks. Getting to break them wide open sooner than you normally can was great.

All bosses boil down to "how fast can I set up the lethal full burst" in XC2. One upside to the unreliabiltiy of XC1 chain attacks is you can't just hit a button and know the boss is about to lose 60-70% of their max HP in a single go (I mean, you can set up a lot of boosts to the odds, but it's not nearly as guaranteed as endgame with 5-6 orbs in 2).

@Polaritie with the above accessory combo you don't even need a burst at all. With Fiora, Mythra and Poppi QT I emptied Gladiator Orion's HP bar on one chain attack with no blade combos on.

And I think in the quest dialogue, Reyn even said something like "oh yeah, Shulk and I made those bracelets when we were kids too."

    Uh...how?
