So I'm trying to remember the name of an action RPG I had for Windows waaaaay back when, probably around 2000-2005 or so. It was a very early third person game with a pretty large inventory system, and a magic system that I believe involved drawing shapes to cast spells. The art was, I think, 100% 3D so it was after the age of sprites, and the design was pretty muted; nothing crazy going on; it looked a bit like a third person Arx Fatalis. I remember it being very open to exploration, and the first big dungeon-y area you explored was a mine. I think enemies were mostly skeletons and bandits? I also remember that apples and bread were common health-regen items. I would also like to say it came on two CDs.
Not a lot to go on, but does anyone have any ideas?
Can't remember the starting area, but maybe one of the Gothic games?
Just looked up some screenshots of Gothic - I think it must have been a little bit before that. I remember the models being a little simpler. I also remember torches being a big deal, now.
I'm pretty sure it came in a two pack with a game that was essentially Diablo in Japan.
Update: I found out what that one was! Throne of Darkness. I never actually got to play it because it would crash every time I tried to launch it back in whenever. That puts the one I'm looking for at around 2001.
If we're trying to name super old games, there was a DOS game I've never been able to identify.
This would have been early 90s (around when Monkey Island 2 and Lemmings 2 came out), and I got a demo for this game from a magazine.
It was an isometric pov, and you were some kind of workman who had to go around fixing things (and finding keycards and the like to get to places to get the parts and so on).
I think it had the name Zack in there somewhere, but that's never been enough for me to google it for a positive result.
I'm sure that 10-year old me had terrible taste in demos, but it'd be nice to know the name.
Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

Are we talking Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders?

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders was one of the best adventure games of that era!
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

The feeling you get when you open a thread titled " super old game" and it's looking for a 2005 game, and you suddenly feel like Methuselah.
I know how you feel. I started hitting my 80s knowledge going into this. then just frowning at the 2000-2005.
LOL - to me "super old" means we are back when games did not have colors and Space Invaders was like the ultimate when it comes to graphics. Good times, but I am glad we have progressed some since then.
Also DOS games aren't really old if they had graphics, those are the recent ones :P
To the OP. Sorry for not having anything to offer on the game you're seeking. RPG is one type of games I never followed much.

Well if it was Throne of Darkness, that means the pack in game likely also was from the same publisher (Sierra)
Return to Krondor? that was from 1998

Return to Krondor was great if I remember correctly, but I misremembered the game it was actually packed in with, which was Planescape Torment. The game I was thinking of was called Soulbringer. Thanks for the guess though! I'm pretty sure I played a Krondor game that came packed in with a book I got from the library but that might have been Betrayal at Krondor.

Yeah, on seeing it was a 'super old RPG' my first thought was Castle of the Winds.
Soooo gooood.
If I ever forget Wizard's Crown I'll hit you up.
(released three years before I was, and I still feel old when I realize Planescape Torment came out in 99.
Get off my lawn! damn kids
edit: context, I am older than videogames

Contraption Zack?
Yes! That was it.
