There's one thing that's driving me nuts, though, and that's what region to start as.
It's been a while since I played and I might be a little off base here, but from what I remember in Forza 1, you could set up 3 different saves/profiles (Euro, N. America, Japan), race and run challenges on each one independently, and then trade regional cars between your own profiles. Can anybody confirm if you're able to do this in Forza 2?

Is it difficult to buy cars from outside your region? Will I get gouged by the auction house?
I'm not far enough into be able to even afford a new car yet, but you do win cars for golding all three races in an event. One of the cars I've won came from Europe, so I guess you can win cars outside of your region.
I started off in Japan, since I general prefer tuners (although I'd love to get me hands on some of the muscles and euros). Looking at other countries, you can still buy cars, but the thing about picking a starting region seems to be that as you beat more and more races, manufacturers of that region (in my case, Japan), will give you increasing discounts on new cars, ad sometimes even freebie cars. Therefore, you'll end up paying more for cars in other countries than in your region. I do think that it takes longer to unlock cars in other regions, though I have five v-dubs unlocked in Europe already.
Interestingly, although I'm not sure what it means yet, after I just got done with this last race, it said I have set up a relationship with Porsche, so maybe I'll start getting new cars from them.
Also, this game is the bitches. I feel Gamespot's review best embodied how great this game is.

I got it, played for a couple hours. Really, it's exactly what you'd expect out of a next-gen Forza. Better graphics, more realistic physics (the best ever in a racing game perhaps), etc. The graphics are disappointing like the reviews say, but it doesn't matter because the gameplay is so good. The controls are fantastic too, the best I've ever used with a racing game on a traditional controller.
Right now I'm using a 1970 Porsche 914/6 with the engine upgraded enough to put it at the top of D class. I did too much powering up to it though and not enough upgrading of the stuff that affects handling, I'm going to have to work on balancing it out on the next cars I use. It runs fine though.
You know, I figured that if you damaged another driver in this game, it'd be just like any other game and they'd get maybe a few scuffles markings on them, or maybe nothing at all.
That was until I accidentally slammed into a computer in the last race.
There was glass everywhere...

Yeah, the damage modelling is really incredible. Not overdone or anything either. I put damage on "simulation" and it's really cool.
Oh shit that guy just side swiped me while I was taking a turn.
Oh shit now I'm constantly veering to the left.
That and actual AI is a big step up from the Gran Turismo series. It feels much more real.

Absolutely, the best part is the sound, if you get a really hard hit. It's a genuinely terrifying, spine-tingling *crunch* that really makes you feel the hit.

I only drove one race, but let me tell you... this game + the wheel is absolutely amazing.
I never "felt" the road quite like I did using this gear.
I am not the biggest fan of these pedals, though; they are just plain uncomforable, and you can't heel-toe to save your life.
heel-toe?
do you only have 1 leg or something?
Heel-Toe. A technique used in drifting. Helps make your car slide. On that note, as far-fetched as it may be, will the Driving Force Pro work, considering it's a USB wheel?
I'm going to love watching idiots in their "AE86"s slide around like fools
The mountain pass was my absolute favorite level in Forza 1. I was actually pretty good at it too. It just makes me a little sad that it apparently won't make a comeback in this game. Or will it? I haven't seen the track list.
Is it difficult to buy cars from outside your region?
You can switch regions, for a cost.
I was wondering about this, because I read somewhere that certain cars won't be accessible at all depending on what region you choose. My immediate thought was, "That's janky." Then I started thinking about ways to get around it. Luckily, I won't have to.

LOL what!?
Ok... I know what drivers use a heal-toe technique for but just for fun I'd like to hear your explanation

Actually, I did mean heel-toe gas/brake, as in using one foot to control both gas and brake, as you would in a car with a pedal clutch. I am just not programmed to manage the two pedals with two legs... it feels downright wrong.
I am highly tempted to mangle my pedals by cutting out the "handle" where your heels are supposed to rest, and affixing the whole thing to a carpeted board or something so I can use the pedals just like the ones in my car. They just feel wrong to me.
But the wheel is awesome.

What, can't you just trade/use the Auction House for the cars you can't get?

I guess you could do that, but I'm thinking without the help of the internet. Not everyone has online access. I mean, I do, but not everyone. And maybe I don't want to wait for an auction to end, of which I might never win.
I have a car with paddle shifters... if I was to take it autocrossing I might want to practice braking with my left foot but I'd have to be kindof insane to think that actually controlling the brake AND the gas (to where both were being actually used to move the car) at the same time with the same foot would be beneficial... in any respect
even for drifting
you drift by getting the car to over/understeer and there's no reason to use a heal.... and a toe... at the same time
Yeah...like others have said, heel/toe is a technique for rev matching on a downshift while braking so you dont have to shift in the middle of a turn - which is very, very bad to do.
If you're auto-xing with anything but a traditional manual, using both feet doesn't benefit you at all, really.
Not to mention the fact that while hanging the back end out can be fun, it isn't the fastest way around the circuit. :P

I'm a bit worried on your part. Do you know how to turn right? Forza 2's not going to have very many oval tracks.
Know what's awesome? When average Joes who drive on simulators talk down about professionals that drive real cars on ovals/triovals. Not that I'm a fan of oval/trioval racing, I just find it funny that people assume no amount of skill is involved.
But enough of that, back to the game. I hate myself for not buying this yet.
I really suck with the decal editor. I can do decent looking stripes and stuff, but anything beyond that I just have no idea how to do. Maybe I'll give one of my friends with some artistic talent a shot at it.

Speaking of decals and stuff, how are you supposed to go about putting Goombas and other images on cars like I've seen?

It's really crazy how abstract that stuff is. Then again, just about every drawing you can think of is the result of making use of a series of simple shapes in crazy ways.
...Yeah. In other words, you'd have to be out of your mind or incredibly artistically inclined to make good use of it.

All that stuff is made completely out of the weird shapes the game gives you. I have no idea how they do it.

I have tried to get into racing sims on several occasions, but none of them have really done anything for me. I'm not hardcore into driving or anything, but I appreciate the physics and the detail that goes into these games. Forza 2 however, has been a lot of fun for me so far. I love the feel of the cars, and the simple clean quality of the interface. This might finally be the racing sim I got hooked on.
In other words, I'm sort of a racing lightweight, and I'm really enjoying this game. I'm trying to learn it without the aids on. Is that a good way to go?

Pick the curviest course possible and get rid of ABS braking for a baptism of fire. After that, ease off on the other aids bit by bit.
Oh man. The Porsche 914 upgraded to D392 with 179 hp? An evil, diabolical, slippery little fucker that will take hairpins like they were sweepers. I haven't pushed it excessively, but this thing looks like it could have some insane controlled drifts. Plus I recovered from an AI bastard's last-lap attempted PIT maneuver and nabbed first with all assists off.
Winning the race got me to level 6 and I got a free Jaguar E-Type, hell yes.
