Return to Castle Wolfenstein had a bunch of occult-related stuff in it, but you were mainly fighting Himmler (I think?), and then just actual demons, from memory.

  • -Tal-Tal Registered User regular
The final boss of spear of destiny was the angel of death

The occult stuff in that game probably directly led to doom

Okay, but what if Nazi glory kills

"There's nothing glorious about killing a Nazi; that elevates them to a place they do not deserve. Killin' Nazis is simply work that must be done until there are none left. Then you crack open a beer, toast to those that didn't make it with you, and you're done." - BJ, probably.

I've played about an hour of this game, tno, now

    It's really good

My only complaint is that it's really hard to read the tool tips for some reason

    My TV isn't smol either

Is there a way to change the color of the text?

    Silly question
Can BJ? Are we still calling him BJ? Or is it Blazko now? Hear the Nazi walkie talkies because of that shrapnel in his head?

His name is William Joseph Blazkowicz. BJ to his friends, Blazko to his British friends and Billy-Boy when he was a child (and in his inner monologue).

In the the old timelime his son becomes a shock jock radio DJ and goes by the last name of Blaze. He names his own son after his father; William Joseph Blazkowicz II, aka Billy Blaze aka Commander Keen.

Somewhere down the line, one of his descendants becomes a marine, assaults a commanding officer and get shipped out to babysitting duty in a UAC facility on Mars as punishment.

    Oh wow

I forgot about the three games starring the same family thing.

So Old Blood was $10 on steam. Is there a ton of references to other games in this? The keychain has a Doom rocket launcher. There is a soda machine in the start area with Nuka Cola, and there is a Skyrim nord helmet in the research lab you first go to.

Was it a Doom rocket launcher? I totally thought it was the one from Quake 3. But those are the only references I've seen in the game. Though I only made it a few hours into it all

Beat The Old Blood last night, quick and dirty summary would be:

Better gameplay than TNO. Worse story than TNO.

The game jumped the shark a bit at the end for me with Actual Spoilers:
Zombies. But luckily they didn't supplant human nazi opponents entirely.

Also the end boss fight was bad but I think every boss fight in the new Wolfenstein games has been bad so, par for the course there.

I hated the shift that happens in Old Blood and the final boss was so garbage that I never actually finished it, which is why I could never recommend it to anyone
It honestly fucked the whole thing for me

The last boss fight in New Order took me like 2 hours to beat and it damn near ruined the game for me the first time

    6F32U1X.png
  • InquisitorInquisitor Registered User regular
To be honest whenever I hit a boss fight in either of these games I just look up how to beat them in a strategy guide because usually there is some gimmick strategy that will mop the floor with them pretty quickly, and I have no interested in performing trial and error to figure out what that is, and the game telegraphs terribly when you are dealing effective vs ineffective damage against a boss.

I hit that in Darksiders 2; I almost kicked the shit out of a boss, even though he did a massive damage attack whenever I got near him, but he'd kill me every time. Turned out I needed to open portals and let him shoot himself with a ranged attack so he'd get stunned.

The weapons in The Old Blood are straight up more fun than those in The New Order.

TNO's sniper rifle was functional. It did its job. TOB's sniper rifle rips Nazi head and arms off at extreme ranges.

Old Blood also has the Kamphpistol, aka the pistol rocket-launcher, which was my jam.

    Both good suggestions.

I can't remember the last time I actually finished a game, let alone in two sessions.

I don't remember who encouraged me to play the New Order in the E3 thread but I played it and it was great.

Super duper satisfying shootemup with actually great writing? Doesn't happen often at all. I'm super looking forward to eviscerating more Nazis in the New Collosus.

    TNO is really, really good

    I'm on chapter six

  • DouglasDangerDouglasDanger PennsylvaniaRegistered User regular
What the hell is the deal with that boss though, Jesus fucking Christ

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Cybertronian Paranormal Eliminator Registered User regular
Yeah, the boss is all kinds of garbage. Same with Old Blood.

  • EtchwartsEtchwarts Eyes Up Registered User regular
This feels like an Uncharted thing, where I thought the bosses were fine? But the discussion has already become "man, those bosses suck, huh"

  • LalaboxLalabox Registered User regular
man, i feel weird because i never had much trouble with any of the bosses in TNO

like the Old Blood one was kinda just a slog, but the TNO ones are pretty much all over before they really begin

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Cybertronian Paranormal Eliminator Registered User regular
I'm mostly just thinking of the final boss from TNO.

    and yeah, those ones especially

like the one that's after the moonbase requires a bit of time, but i really never had much of a problem with any of the end ones. But maybe i just lucked into figuring out their gimmicks really quick

The chapter six boss is (if I'm right and it's the hanger boss?) is super easy though because he's just a bigger version of the robots you fought literally right before him and the tactic is exactly the same.

    Shoot it in the head?

I keep running out of ammo because I have shit accuracy when I fight all the Nazis before the boss gets there

And it's weapon wipes out the battery of the laser gun

    For me
Stun it with grenades and dump an entire LKW mag into it. Then stun it again and mop up

The bosses were just super boring to me but my hatred of bullet sponge enemies runs deep.

Lean out of cover, empty clip, reposition, repeat against a single slow enemy with passive AI is the videogame equivalent of watching paint dry for me.

If I'm not mistaken all the robots have a weak point on their backs which are easily reached when they're stunned

I played a fair bit of Destiny and the only part I vividly remember is the fifteen minute long sessions of boss grinding that consisted of four people with machineguns shooting a guy in the face for fifteen minutes

Never knew you could stun or that they had a weak spot behind. Game needs to teach you how to play it better. Then again they were still trivial to dispatch the wrong way, just boring.

If you read the entry for the tesla grenade when you pick one up the first time it mentions that it disables mechanical enemies for a short time, there's a little card in the codex thing each time you pick up something new that tells you what it does.

Pretty sure the first time you pick up a weapon or upgrade (grenades included) you get a pop up telling you to push the menu button and it'll jump you to a description of what the weapon does.
