I crested 2.8k just a day or two ago (the highest I've been since season three) and I can safely say I'm far less stressed at a higher SR level because people I'm playing with have generally better game sense and are better capable of recognising their mistakes. They're also more likely to recognise that the opponents I'm calling out are priority targets for a reason
The number of times people respond to "Zarya bubble dropped, discording" even gives me warm fuzzy feelings on rare occasions
I hopped back in for a few games to see what's up after a while away. Had fun in mystery heroes so I did the dumb thing and hop into Comp solo.
I had just... the dumbest game on Hollywood. Team of 3 on my side autolock Widow, Hanzo, Genji almost instantly. Only guy on mic goes Reaper. I ask last person to heal since I picked Rein for this mess. They go Mercy but spam hello for the entire game. Doors open, I get picked instantly by... nearly the same comp on the other side. Two snipes and I go down, and then Mercy. The rest of the team rushes in to die one by one. After that we couldn't get a single concentrated push together save for once.
We lost without a single tick, even after I forced a push through by earthshattering and killing their Mercy and Dva. I die, get rezzed, die again and the fumble squad still can't dislodge the last 3 with 5 up. Mercy still spamming hello and thanks. I have silver dmg as Rein.
Next round, mostly they swap to more sensible picks save for Genji. I try to tank for them but once again they ignore the shield and engage them at random times/spaces. I give up and Bastion in the corner so we can stem the tide a bit, and we hold for surprisingly long. Mercy still spamming in chat, finally guy on mic loses it and starts cussing out Mercy. Mercy swaps to Pharah, and with no healer our defense crumples.
Shaking my head, remembering why I promised myself not to solo for this exact reason, enemy Genji gets play of the game off killing me twice and then the Mercy.
For that kind of mess Rein isn't going to help. Zayra is a decent backup (can't run away from the shield if it's on you)
If you know your team is going to pick that kind of comp might as well play into it
I would but when I'm just a bad Zarya. I always feel like I bubble too early or late and die without helping. The ult is excellent tho.
I'll start learning more characters over time, but then again sometimes people look at your comp playtime and ask you to roll whatever you have best time in.
It def feels like having a regular, chill team makes it easier to climb. Less stress, less random swapping about, usually good comms.

I recently went back into comp for the first time in a couple of season. I've dropped in SR (from 2800 to 2450 on placement, then crawled back up to 2580) I know what you mean though. Even in that small 150 gap it's amazing how much easier it is to coordinate with people. Frustratingly though everyone's stopped using mic around this point, guessing mic's kick back in around the 2700-2800 mark?
As for my drop in SR, I think everyone else has just gotten better. It's light and day compared to how comp used to be skills-wise, even in Platinum. I had a good time though, 2 out out of 10 matches had voice trolls, otherwise I was surprised as how fun it was.
Fantastic

The best (that is, the most sensible) description I've seen for Elo hell was:
A region along the rank ladder at which individual skill begins to take a back-seat to one's teamwork, where players tend to get stuck because progressing further requires they approach the game with a different mindset
But I still suspect that the answer is that many people are too quick to throw their hands up and blame the situation instead of looking at what they could be doing better. If you can't queue with a pre-made, then it's probably going to take many, many games for your good teamwork to trump the crap-shoot of who you get paired with enough times to rank up, but nevertheless it does seem to work for people.
But that's entirely based on reading & watching others; I wouldn't personally know, because my individual skill is terrible and I have too poor... sticktoitiveness? Let's call it attention span, for any one game to get the kind of focused practice needed to change that.

I have only 2k coins saved up for immediately buying anything I want from the event. I'd have more but Death Match doesn't reward as much experience per game as doing QP and I have been doing DM almost exclusively.

The one i really want is the Faceless Zenyatta skin out of the ones shown so far
The symmetra one is a nice contrast with her current skins
The mei one is....eh
The reaper one is alright, i guess. Seems a bit like he put on a full skull helmet and a fancier coat
I....actually have to go find the McCree one again because I don't remember what it looks like
Thankfully i started playing again a while back so i have 4k currency saved up so i can definitely get a single skin and some odds and ends if i'm unlucky and don't pull the zen one before the event ends
Oh yeah, so last year I didn't play Overwatch during the Halloween event so I have no idea what it entails.
Well, if they're doing the Junkenstein thing again, it's a super fun VS AI game mode that you'll wish they'd just put in the game permanently. Or at the very least an actual horde mode where you can play as whoever you want.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Super fun is stretching it a bit. It was really cool and the presentation was awesome, but everything was 100% scripted and completely on the clock, so the only variation really was how incompetent your teammates decided to be. Or I guess photobombing.
The way it worked last year, you and three other people (as Ana/76/Hanzo/McCree) had to protect a wall against waves of zombie omnics that walked straight for the door and blow up (didn't attack players at all). Riptires would also spawn at set times. A few artillery omnics that attacked players instead would occasionally spawn. Periodically, a boss (Reaper/Roadhog/Junkrat/Mercy with inflated HP) would spawn, Mercy being the last boss who revived all of the others at once. If you died, there was a timer to respawn, not a player revive mechanic like Uprising. You lose if too many zombies/riptires hit the door.
I'm not a huge fan of horde mode in any game so Junkenstein didn't hold my attention for very long. But the presentation was very good which got me to play it fairly thoroughly.

You also lose if everyone is dead at the same time.
Mei is a vampire in this skin, but specifically a Jiangshi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiangshi According to Chinese lore the Jiangshi's limbs are so stiff (from being dead) that it can only move around by hopping.
All ultimates now count as cast when you hit Q. If someone with a long cast like Genji gets stunned during the cast animation, he'll still be in sword mode when the stun ends. But if you die during the cast animation, the ult is gone. Ults with cast time and a single effect, such as Blizzard, earthshatter, etc. will be lost entirely if interrupted by stun or Sombra's hack.
Looks like they changed the point capture progress bar a little to make it more clear when you get a tick.
Mercy's guardian angel won't maintain momentum (as much momentum?) when you cancel it in mid-flight.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
You can see the Mei hopping emote in the official trailer above, so yeah. It's a jiangshi hopping. Kind of weird in any other skin, but whatever, I guess.
I absolutely need that Zenyatta skin. The Zarya skin is also rather rad. I have almost 3000 Overwatch Funbucks, which will be going to the Zenyatta skin most likely. All of the other skins are really cool too, but Zenyatta is the only one that I absolutely want.
I'm super disappointed. All the legendaries are cool, but zero epics for the rest of the cast really stings. Reaper has 2 bloody Halloween legendaries now lol.

The Zenyatta skin is worth spending some coins on. Otherwise I think I'll snag the old Mercy and Ana ones and that's about it. Viking Torb is nice, too. Not crazy about any of the rest.

Genji comes to mind, thematically-speaking. Or maybe you just get to play as Junkenstein, the Reaper, the Monster, and the Witch.
McCree is indeed meant to be Helsing.
Mei is meh. Maybe she has cool effects on her attacks or something.
So the 8 new legendaries go to
Reaper, McCree, Zen, Mei, Ana, Torb, Sym, and who? A diff color of one of those?
I need all the pirate skins this game can make.

New achievements give some insight for the new modes/changes
E2:
Mei has some kind of jumping emote?
E3:
Various heroes got new victory poses too (in addition to the grave ones).
eg Orisa has a jack o lantern head, and Hanzo has a super dumb one where he's just crouching with a jack o lantern skewered on his arrow.
It's Genji, Torb, Widow, and Zen.

Also that Ana skin is the best.
